Calvary Homes dedicated two buildings on Aug. 21 in the fellowship hall on the continuing care retirement community’s campus. The dedication event included prelude music and refreshments.

After the completion of a $13 million renovation and expansion, begun in 2018, Calvary Homes chose to honor Clifford K. Hurter and his wife, Carol Brady Hurter, in the naming of the community’s new Hurter Community and Administrative Center. Clifford served Calvary Homes as business manager beginning in 1980 and then president and CEO starting in 1988. Carol aided in administrative roles and as a volunteer.

The dedication event also included renaming the community’s main personal care facility in honor of the community’s former executive director from 1970 to 1988, George Baumgartner. Dan Snyder, director of development for Calvary Homes, noted that Clifford and Baumgartner played important roles in Calvary Homes’ growth.

In 1963, members of Calvary Church established Calvary Homes as an outreach ministry to missionaries, pastors, and Christian servants across the globe. The community quickly grew from 14 residents in a single, purposebuilt building to a modern not-for-profit continuing care retirement community on 37 acres serving 360 residents and employing 300 staff members. As recently as 2020-21, the community has received awards for its quality of care, and it continues to serve a diverse array of retirees, many of whom have provided vocational Christian service.

Bird-In-Hand Stage To Present Christmas Show

Bird-in-Hand Stage recently announced the opening of “The Christmas Tree Ship,” a new show from Blue Gate Musicals. The musical tells the story of one woman’s determination to continue her husband’s mission of bringing Christmas trees to their Chicago community. The new musical is inspired by the true story of the famous Christmas tree ship, the Rouse Simmons.

“The Christmas Tree Ship” opened on Oct. 28 and will run through Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022, on the Bird-in-Hand Stage, located at 2715 Old Philadelphia Pike, Bird-inHand.
