The Demuth Museum. Born in Lancaster at the end of the 19th century, Charles Demuth studied and painted in Philadelphia, New York, Provincetown, Paris, and Bermuda. He was part of the avant garde scene while studying in Paris; however, most of his work was accomplished in his King Street, Lancaster County, home. His wellknown work “My Egypt (1927)” was inspired by grain elevators that dotted the burgeoning industrial landscape in Lancaster. Though plagued by illness his entire life, Demuth managed to produce more than 1,000 works of art. An impressive sample is available to view at The Demuth Museum, located in what was once the artist’s home and studio. 120 E. King St., Lancaster 717-299-9940, information@demuth.org www.demuth.org
