Local author Hillary Daecher and illustrator Angie Hohenadel have teamed up for the first time to create a children’s book titled “SOAR.” Daecher, who lives in Lititz, has been writing short stories since she was a child. “SOAR” is her first published children’s book. To learn more, readers may visit www.hillarydaecher.com. Hohenadel is a high school art teacher and artist in Lancaster. “SOAR” is her first illustrated children’s book. “SOAR,” published by Schiffer Publishing Ltd., tells the story of Ramone, a shy, rubythroated hummingbird, who is about to leave the nest for the first time. However, his anxiety and fear keep him from taking off as he contemplates all that could go wrong. Full of kind words and encouragement, Ramone’s mother gives him room to work through his emotions, building his confidence and letting him set his own pace. Ramone watches as his friends soar through the sky, realizing all he might miss out on if he does not conquer his fear.

Ramone’s adventure showcases the emotions, both positive and negative, that children experience as they approach new challenges. Accompanied by illustrations, the tale guides readers through Ramone’s emotional journey, showing children that fear must be overcome in order to grow. The book addresses the topic of going back to school, which can bring about feelings of uncertainty in children of all ages. Whether the first day of school starts as traditional in-classroom learning or in the new virtual classroom, it is natural for children to be nervous. The book provides solutions on how to talk with children about their emotions. Free digital resources, including Ramone’s Word Search and Make Your Own Nectar Recipe, are available on the Schiffer Kids Resource Hub. For more information, readers may contact Abigail Holden at Abigail.h@schifferbooks.com or 610-593-1777. Information about Schiffer Publishing Ltd. is available at www.schiffer books.com.

S TAY S A F E So our community can stay open. It’s good to be open. But to stay open, we need to stop the spread of COVID-19. We can do that with three simple steps: • Wear a mask in public

• Wash your hands often

• Maintain social distance — 6 feet

These methods have been shown to work. So let’s keep at it. Thank you for doing your part.
