November 2012 Eng-Zone: Engineers Australia Sydney Division's e-newsletter sent to you monthly with news and details of activities around Engineers Australia.

Managing Risk Through Professional Indemnity Insurance One of the easiest ways to reduce the level of risk faced by your Engineering company is to ensure that you have appropriate professional indemnity insurance cover in place, however the difficult part is ensuring the policy you have in place adequately covers the unique risk faced by your business. The world of engineering is diverse, and a professional indemnity policy that is suitable for one engineer, may not be suitable for others. The only way to ensure that an adequate policy has been negotiated is to use a specialist professional indemnity insurance broker who knows the ins and outs of insurers’ automatic extensions, optional extensions, exclusions, endorsements and general conditions.

Engineers Australia is pleased to announce 2012 is the Year of the Regional Engineering Team, a year which will highlight regional Australia as the heart of engineering.

In today’s market there are well over thirty local and overseas insurers offering professional indemnity insurance and their policy wordings and claims handling service vary greatly. Too many engineers today rely on “general brokers” without the necessary expertise in professional indemnity insurance to arrange the negotiations of their policies. This is inherent with danger given the complexity and technical nature of the policies available in the market today. In our Member Benefit offer free seminar for Sydney Division members on the 10th of December (View details), we will show you some of the important aspects of a professional indemnity insurance policy. We will outline what to look for in a policy to ensure that it accurately reflects your individual business, the services you provide, and the structure of the business as well as a general discussion on the common areas we see claims arising against engineers.
