MANDARIN ORIENTAL HYDE PARK, LONDON LAUNCHES NEW KNIGHTSBRIDGE GUEST ROOMS AND SUITES

Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London will unveil the first phase of a far reaching renovation on 1 August 2017, with the re-opening of the Knightsbridge-facing guest rooms and suites. Following the reveal of a dramatic new lobby entrance and reception area in January, the guestrooms and suites are now more luxurious and comfortable than ever before, encompassing details inspired by the building’s Edwardian heritage and the natural beauty of Hyde Park.

Hotelier & Hospitality Design

Internationally renowned interior designer, Joyce Wang, commissioned to oversee the overall design concept, sought inspiration from the royal park, and was influenced by the glamour of the early 20th century’s Golden Age of travel. These include curated artworks and custom-designed furniture that together create a warm and inviting environment in each of the rooms and suites.

6

Guest rooms: Light and contemporary, each room has a unique and individual layout, featuring alcoves, warm grey panelled walls and hand-gilded mirror artwork. Art Deco-inspired features and wildlife adornments are present throughout the space, reminiscent of the nearby park. Rooms overlook fashionable Knightsbridge or the inner courtyard with views of a green landscaped living wall. Beds with leather-tufted headboards, large leathertopped writing desks, and rugs inspired by the hotel’s park-side location are included in the new furnishings. All guest rooms offer generous wardrobe space and include Bower and Wilkins music player with Bluetooth connectivity, Nespresso coffee machine and tea making facilities, and a pillow menu. Bathrooms are fashioned from Volakas marble with either a walk-in shower or a bath with an in-built shower. Miller Harris bathroom

products and Jo Hansford hair are the chosen amenities. All guestrooms overlook either fashionable Knightsbridge or the quiet courtyard. Guest suites: Suites have their own individual layout and an elegant hallway entrance, with a vibrant setting overlooking Knightsbridge or the inner courtyard with views of a green living wall. All suites have a spacious and comfortable bedroom, separate walk-in closet and a living area furnished with a velvet-upholstered sofa, wingback reading chairs and a leather-topped writing desk. Taking inspiration from the nearby park, the living room’s centrepiece is a striking gold and crackled glass bespoke acorn chandelier. Bespoke Fromenthal wallpaper, horsehair light sconces and gloss painted patterns that reference the horse-riding paths through Hyde Park are all part of the new design. Room amenities include Bower and Wilkins music player with Bluetooth connectivity, Nespresso coffee machine and tea making facilities, surround-sound speakers throughout the suite and bathroom. The generous marble bathrooms feature separate walkin showers with stand-alone baths and twin vanity units. Amenities by Miller Harris and exclusive hair products by Jo Hansford are present in all bathrooms. Additionally, Knightsbridge Suites come with a curated library of hand-picked books by renowned Mayfair publishers, Heywood Hill, for guests to enjoy suites. Canadian courthouse to get boutique hotel conversion The former courthouse in Thunder Bay, Ontario, is to become a hotel.

An Infrastructure Ontario spokesman on Thursday confirmed the $500,000 sale was completed earlier this week. Pepe said the history of the building would provide an experience different from existing hotels in Thunder Bay: “Consumers are often looking for something unique that has a story behind it, perhaps a bit more intimate in its setting. There’s a market for all kinds of accommodation options and certainly this is one that’s sort of exciting. Of course, the views of Lake Superior are pretty impressive as well.” The courthouse opened its doors in 1924 and remained in operation until 2014, when a new consolidated Thunder Bay Courthouse was built. It was added to the city’s heritage register in 2009 and certain architectural features such as the exterior, main hallway and two-storey main courtroom are protected by a provincial heritage designation.

The addition of the hotel to the north downtown core serves as a further complement to the emerging culinary and entertainment scene, Pepe said: “We have to have people downtown after 5 pm for a successful core, for the downtown to succeed and survive and be sustainable. Having the restaurant options is great, having the walkability is great and now having more opportunities for people to stay downtown and walk to where they want to go, walk for a great meal and walk to Prince Arthur’s Landing all really helps with the growth of the neighbourhood and the city overall.” “We’re excited any time an investor comes into Thunder Bay and has the confidence to put their money down on a property, especially a beautiful property like this,” Pepe said. “It creates jobs, it creates tax assessment and it creates new opportunities and choices for visitors who want to stay and want to experience something a little different.” The developer is targeted a 2018 opening. It is unknown whether the hotel will operate independently or under a brand.

The Camelot Street property has been bought by a Toronto developer who is intending to convert the building into a boutique hotel, according to city tourism manager Paul Pepe.

Radnor Hills introduces new Strawberry & Mint flavour to their Heartsease Farm Range Radnor Hills have been busy carefully concocting a seventh flavour to add to their Heartsease Farm Premium Pressè range, introducing a Strawberry & Mint Pressé. Made with sweet juicy strawberries and refreshing garden mint making this the perfect drink for the warmer weather!

Named after the Welsh farm that has been in the family since 1903, the company began producing bottled mineral water in the nineties as part of the Radnor Hills brand. William’s family wanted to create a drinks range that reflected the heritage of their beloved farm, thus Heartsease Farm was born.

Hotelier & Hospitality Design

Using its very own fresh spring water as the foundation for its beverages, Radnor Hills pay keen attention to the ingredients that are used to make its range of sparkling premium pressés. “We try to source the best available ingredients,” says William Watkins, managing director. “From the finest Sicilian lemons to traditional British blackcurrants that arrive from a farm just down the road in Herefordshire. Provenance of our ingredients is key to each flavour.”

12

With other concoctions like Apple & Rhubarb and Raspberry Lemonade, the company errs on the side of sophisticated flavours, and even has smartly-designed bottles to suit the theme. This was a conscious decision, admits William. “Central to our business belief is to create products that look and particularly taste better than those of our competitors. With that central core value in mind, we have assembled a team of experts in developing and producing delicious products. This is where some great ideas turn into reality.” The pressés are available in both 750ml and 330ml glass bottles, as well as 425ml premium PET bottles. These creative flavours can be found in local delis, food halls, farm shops, garden centres, pubs and cafés across the country.

“There was a clear gap in the market for a really premium range of sparkling pressés that are bottled in both glass and plastic,” says William. “Many outlets can’t stock glass and this gives them the chance to sell a super-premium pressé range in plastic bottles. It’s because of this, and many other reasons, that Heartsease Farm is performing extremely well.” William believes that the Heartsease Farm pressés complement Radnor Hills’ other range of beverages. “We have become a one-stop shop when it comes to soft drinks,” he says. “Buyers can order mineral water, flavoured water, healthy school compliant drinks, fruit juices and premium adult pressés all from under one roof!”

doing something like this before we even opened Pidgin – it seemed like a fun and novel approach to our current eating out habits, and a way of tackling some of the more frustrating aspects of ‘sharing’ plates,”

The Co-Founders of Pidgin, the Michelin-starred restaurant in Hackney, will open their new restaurant, Magpie, on 11th July, on Heddon Street, off Regent Street. With a modern British menu, diners will be able to select plates straight from a trolley, mirroring traditional dim-sum style service.

James, Sam and Pidgin’s Head Chef Dan Graham have designed the menu, with Adolfo de Cecco at the helm of the kitchen, drawing on his experience in some of the world’s best restaurants including Italy’s 2 Michelinstarred Perbellini and world-renowned Tetsuya in Sydney. Winding its way through the restaurant a sleek, modern trolley will be filled with small plates such as mackerel crudo with blueberry kosho and fennel pollen, and Hoi An-style terrine with nukazuke pickles.

The restaurant’s design will be a bright, open space with high ceilings and a poured concrete bar lined with comfortable leather stools. Interiors will borrow from both Asian and Californian influences, combining canvas-hung walls with burnt wood tiling and a huge landscape imprinted on the restaurant’s back wall. Pidgin’s storm bathrooms will, of course, be making the move west with their dramatic murals and tempest soundtrack.

As the UK’s No.1 thermometer manufacturer we offer a wide product range including our Thermapen® 4 thermometer & our new ThermaData® WiFi loggers for wireless temperature monitoring

Trays of hot dishes will come out of the kitchen including udon noodles with paitan broth, calabrese sausage and stracciatella, and grilled celeriac with gjetost and a watermelon barbecue sauce. A small a la carte menu will also be available, including a few Pidgin favourites such as dairy cow with lobster, pommes sarladaises and charred lettuce and hake, lardo, black garlic dashi and daikon. Desserts will include a strawberry panzanella with olive oil ice cream, and chocolate, sorrel gelato and chartreuse cheesecake, as well as a secret, off menu dish. “If people want to share their food then great – I do – but we want guests to feel more in control of their dinner and not have to fret over how to halve the third croquette.”adds Sam. “It’s less of a ‘sharing’ thing than just a fun restaurant with damn delicious food,” says James“We’d discussed

Upon arrival, guests will be greeted by a drinks trolley, laden with pre-mixed cocktails developed by General Manager Ajax Kentish that include Smoke off the Mountain, a rum-based Manhattan-style drink washed with peated whisky that combines Ron Zacapa 23 and Lagavulin 16, and I’m Jim Morrison I’m Dead, with its rye, oloroso, and cherry liqueur. Cocktails will be served with ice buckets and garnishes, and in addition to the trolley cocktails there will be a full bar from which guests can enjoy the Bo Diddly Rip Off; combining mescal and Hellfire bitters and more. James has written an eclectic wine list championing smaller, independent vineyards, with the biggest selection of wines available on tap in London, the focus will be on lesser known regions and grapes, with a small bias towards California.

Self Ordering Kiosks – Fun, efficient, ordering innovation Technology is changing the way people live and work, it seems that everything you would need is one touch away. We have smartphones, tablets, kiosks, and much more. What a touchy era to live in – get it? Touchy.

T

o say that technology is changing rapidly is an understatement and this is just the beginning. Smart homes, self parking cars, virtual reality are just some of the astonishing new life enhancements that will make our life easier, allowing us to do more, with less. Oh, and then there’s Elon Musk’s plan of colonizing Mars.

But let’s look closer to home a bit, and see what technology does for us in our daily lives. You probably consider them part of your daily routine by now, but self-service kiosks were quite a big leap of faith for companies to invest into. Today we’re using them in train stations, banks, airports, and even when checking in to a hotel. We all know how a fast and easy service can be offered through such piece of technology, so why not adapt it to our food industry? Why not serve customers faster, while reducing costs? Mainly because the costs of developing such solutions are prohibitive for all but the largest restaurant chains. Let’s take into consideration McDonald’s case.

Hotelier & Hospitality Design

Their project of creating a new customer service environment was launched 13 years ago, when they noticed this self service trend, and saw a huge opportunity. They are now able to deliver a casual dine experience with the speed and efficiency of a fast food restaurant. By intro-

20

ducing this type of service McDonald’s customers can now take time to browse and fully customize an order, pre-pay by card and relax at a table until their order is delivered. This new evolution in service was quickly followed by Wendy’s, KFC, Panera Bread and Subway. Others will join their ranks soon. As kiosks are being deployed throughout the major chains in Europe, all restaurant managers will be soon forced to consider the role of technology in their ordering, payments, service and overall customer experience if they want to remain competitive. As the massive fast food customer base gets accustomed to this new style it is reasonable to assume that some elements of the new service will start to be expected as the new standard, even when eating at traditional table service venues. So how can smaller venues respond to this change? The restaurant industry needs specialist tech companies to provide such solutions affordably. These should be provided as a seamless service that restaurants can use simply out of the box. Restaurants have to focus on their customers and have little resource left to build and operate complex technology systems. Fortunately the technologists are able to offer much of this, at prices tailored to usage and size of your business. One such specialist provider is NextMenu. They launched in 2016 at Restaurant Tech Live, with an innovative tablet menu system and have since expanded to offer self-service kiosks fully integrated with card payment acceptance. We visited them recently at the Retail Business Technology Expo where they launched their high-end kiosks. While NextMenu work with a hardware partner focused on custom kiosk designs, NextMenu themselves were keen to emphasize that there is no back-and-forth between the hardware and the software, they handle everything as a seamless service. They are also working on a standardized model that will be cost-effective for any venue. If you missed them at RBTE, fear not, they’re returning to Restaurant Tech Live as the show’s gold partner, so be sure to look them up!

A touchscreen entertainment system that goes walkabout! The UK’s most popular touchscreen entertainment system, Mediatheme’s Entertainer system, is now available on Android and iPad tablets.

Hotelier & Hospitality Design

The traditional desktop version of The Entertainer features a simple to use touch screen providing instant access to a huge variety of features and allows total control of entertainment programmes, including the ability to plan events calendars and increase revenue.

22

Advertising templates provide the ability to create still or video animated adverts in a few minutes, promoting food and drink, forthcoming events and parties, or third party suppliers such as taxi firms. Crammed with music, videos, karaoke, bingo, race nights, quizzes, games and advertising features, the new tablet version has all the benefits of its desktop version designed to help drive footfall, increase dwell time and maximize customer spend in a wide range of venues including pubs, bars, restaurants, clubs, holiday parks, hotels, university campus venues, and cruise ships.

Used in conjunction with The Entertainer, the tablet version features a simple to use touch screen providing instant access to a huge variety of features and allows total control of entertainment programmes, including the ability to plan events calendars and increase revenue. The new tablet version provides user mobility that improves interaction with customers - instead of always being behind a desktop console, venue hosts are free to move around and establish a rapport with customers. Mediatheme Operations Director Scott Williams explained: “This latest innovation means the system delivers even more than before, not just in fun and music but in user and customer experiences. “It retains all the benefits of the desktop version, including advertising and the ability to use split room zoning. It’s fun to use, especially among smaller audiences and groups, where it’s possible for a compere to move around freely and easily. “There’s a monthly update service, ensuring each system has the very latest chart music releases and customer requested songs, as well as the latest video hits, new and classic karaoke tracks, and new quiz questions,” he said. How technology helps a create a great guest exp

W

hen the Shandon Hotel and Spa in Donegal opened its doors as a resort in 2016, it quickly established itself as one of the premier hotel spas in Ireland. With such a rapid rise, it’s hardly surprising that the hotel relies on creating a superlative guest experience that brings delighted visitors back again and again. But with 50 luxurious bedrooms, 120 expert staff members, two bars, a topclass thermal spa and a leisure centre to manage, it’s quite a logistical task to make sure everything runs completely smoothly. General Manager Carolynne Harrison says the hotel’s quality offering relies heavily on the support of its state-ofthe-art property management system (PMS). A PMS system provides the tools to manage and streamline all of the hotel’s key operations.

That includes enhancing front desk operations, helping staff create that all-important personal guest

experience, and it enables bookings to made via the web both from a hotel’s own website and through online travel agents – a crucial element in today’s competitive market. When the Shandon Hotel and Spa’s proprietors were investing extensively in the refurbishment of the resort, they settled on roomMaster PMS from NFS Technology Group to support their operations. roomMaster is one of the leading PMS systems available, and it’s successfully used by around 6,000 hotels all over the world. Carolynne said the decision has really paid off for the luxurious spa hotel. “roomMaster works really well for us,” she said. “We were using it even before we opened – we had quite a bit of business on the books as early as that. “The revenue management side of roomMaster is particularly useful. It’s very easy to use, and it integrates well with SiteMinder, our channel manager – I’ve had experience with other PMS systems that had a lot of snags.”

As well as taking advantage of online booking channels, the hotel has a strong direct booking strategy via its website. “Some hotels pay commission on online bookings – but thanks to roomMaster, we’re pretty much commission-free,” said Carolynne.

Technology

a leading spa hotel perience NFS Chief Executive Luis De Souza said Shandon Hotel and Spa was a perfect example of how an up-to-date PMS can benefit a hotel. “Around the world, the hotels that succeed are the ones that use the remarkable technology tools now available to them,” he said. “roomMaster provides an excellent set of tools whether you are an individual hotel or a chain, because it is a webbased solution that you can access from your mobile device anywhere you have an internet connection.

“That means it’s important for us that the rate is always right, competitive and dynamic to capture that business.” Via roomMaster and SiteMinder’s powerful facilities, the hotel’s rates and availability are automatically pushed out and co-ordinated at all times. “Bookings are also automatically uploaded, which saves a lot of staff time,” said Carolynne. “Our staff find roomMaster easy to use, and the training is also easy.” roomMaster can handle food and beverage management, revenue accounting, sales ledger, sales and marketing. It also helps manage spa facilities, and helps guests book sessions easily. A PMS even helps make housekeeping more efficient – housekeeping staff can notify front desk whenever a room is ready for occupation via an app on a tablet or mobile, and inform

maintenance easily of jobs to be done. Shandon Hotel and Spa prides itself on its reputation as a destination for a real treat, and uses roomMaster’s Point of Sale option with giftcard capability. “It’s great for us – we actually brought in £320,000 on gift cards in the first year,” said Carolynne. “The card can be used anywhere in the resort, which is useful for guests – it’s great for people giving friends and family a treat.” Such a busy hotel and spa cannot afford any downtime on its PMS, and Carolynne also has nothing but praise for the support she receives from NFS, who have an award-winning 24/7 helpdesk. “The support is very good,” she said. “Our NFS contact Yusef Patel is always available to help us – he’s even responded when he was on holiday. “The level of knowledge at NFS about their system is excellent – I’ve worked with a PMS system before where people actually didn’t know much about it.”

“We’re delighted that the prestigious Shandon Hotel and Spa chose roomMaster, and that our PMS is helping the hotel establish such an impressive reputation so quickly. “It shows that in today’s challenging hospitality environment, roomMaster can give hotels the edge by helping them provide the exquisite experience that brings guests back again and again.” www.nfstechnologygroup.com

Hotelier & Hospitality Design

“Our clientele is largely from the leisure market, rather than corporate, and about five percent of our business is weddings, with 10 percent groups,” said Carolynne.

“For groups of hotels, that can help to reduce duplication of roles by giving central head office capabilities from any location.

How to keep your guests cool this summer: By Mitre Linen’s Chris Tame

Coolguard pillow protector

A hot and stuffy hotel room is not conducive to a good night’s sleep. Research suggests that if the temperature of a room is too high, then it will take longer for an individual to fall asleep and, when they finally do, this sleep can be disturbed leading to guests feeling irritable. So how can you make sure your rooms – and your guests - remain cool and comfortable throughout the summer months? Here Chris Tame, Mitre Linen’s National Sales Manager, provides us with his expert tips and advice to ensure that your guests experience a refreshing night’s sleep – even on the warmest of evenings.

Hotelier & Hospitality Design

1. Choose crisp cotton bed linen

28

Pure 100% cotton is a breathable fabric, which means it has the ability to transfer moisture away from the skin. This will keep your beds and your guests feeling cool and fresh all night long. Cotton is also soft to the touch and is a naturally hypoallergenic fabric which can also promote a comfortable sleeping environment. The higher the thread count, then the tighter the weave of the fabric, which adds to both its luxuriousness and its durability. Look for bed linen made with 100% cotton and with a thread count over 200 for a soft, luxurious and cooling feel.

2. Try a summer duvet This is a good time of the year to replace a winter duvet with a lighter summer weight duvet – or to opt for an all year round 10.5 tog duvet, so you don’t have to change them seasonally. Microfibre duvets are particularly good throughout the warmer summer months as, although they are light, they still feel luxurious and snuggly to sleep under. Choose one with a 100% cotton cover to promote an even cooler and crisp environment. 3. Shop around for innovative products

4. Replace heavy velour bathrobes for waffle weave Nothing makes your guests feel special like a super snug bathrobe, but throughout the warmer months some guests may not welcome this gesture as much. I always advise my customers to provide their guests with a lighter bathrobe during the summer so they can still enjoy a little indulgence after stepping out of the shower. Opt for a waffle weave design which will be lightweight yet soft to the touch. 5. Remember the little touches

Small details can make a big difference to a guest’s stay, which is why we love the Coolguard pillow protector. Thanks to its innovative temperature controlled property, this ‘cool to touch’ pillow protector is designed to offer a peaceful cooling sensation.

Help to keep your guests cool by providing them with complimentary bottles of still and sparkling water in their rooms, kept refreshingly cool in the mini-bar. Why not also provide them with a friendly letter to make them feel welcomed whilst informing them of the gesture?

Offering this sort of innovative product provides your guests with the ultimate sleep solution and adds to the overall experience of their stay.

If you asked the General Manager of a large hotel what takes up the majority of their time, they would likely say housekeeping management, as this is at the core of their operation and its success or failure will have a direct impact on profitability. At the top of their list would be ensuring the cleanliness and orderliness of the rooms, and ensuring they are sufficiently stocked with supplies.

30

A key activity for any General Manager is the planning of daily work schedules and the assignment of housekeepers to different tasks. From the plan, there is then the supervision of housekeeping staff to ensure that they perform their duties to the exacting hotel standards. This will include a range of activity such as room checks, cleaning and reordering of rooms once guests leave, scheduled deep cleans and checking public areas, all of which can be very challenging in a busy hotel. Gathering information from the housekeeping staff on maintenance issues and utilisation of supplies is often paper-based or by word of mouth, so in practice, some things fall down the cracks which can lead to customer complaints. If you do receive a complaint, how can you check if housekeeping performed against the expected plan? What evidence do you have to aid with performance reviews of housekeeping staff?

What you need is a cost-effective, easyto-use, cloud-based software solution that can be easily deployed across a single hotel or a complete group. This should include a simple scheduling system, which can capture daily work routines and simplify the staff assignment process. In addition, integrated time and attendance recording will ensure you have a complete record of when and where housekeeping staff attended work, while a simple drag and drop tool will help you plan the daily activities and communicate them to your housekeeping staff on their Smartphones.

rapid return on investment by saving many hours of management time and ensuring improved customer service. Once implemented such a system can deliver “push of the button visibility of housekeeping staffs performance against planned activities, providing management data for employee performance reviews, along with trend analysis of key activity such as room turnaround time, cleaning duration and room checks.

What is more, there should be a simple means of gathering evidence that the tasks were performed as planned, along with additional capabilities to electronically notify the maintenance team of any remedial work required; monitor utilisation and procurement of supplies; and manage potentially chargeable damage. The consumer world is awash with technology advances such as AI, voice assistants, big data and self-driving cars, so why are hotel managers in many cases still using paper for much of the above? Well, you no longer have to, by using a Facilities Workforce Management solutions like SmartTask you can automate much of the above which will provide a

The Daddy (Red) in 1680D Polyester with waterproof PVC backing.

Pouf Daddy is a designer flexible furniture brand, cheeky and lively in spirit, deadly serious when it comes to the quality of the design, fabrics and innovation in its products. Designed to be flexible from the range of fabrics to the number of colours from bright primary colours adding contrast for sundecks or cool white, grey and taupe for minimalist style. Launched just 18 months ago, as an online business, the next 12 months the brand is pushing ahead to grow its business, expecting to see Pouf Daddy products sold through quality traditional retailers, direct to business customers and into new markets. Pouf Daddy will be showcasing its new range of outdoor leather furniture and new colours and fabrics for 2017

Hotelier & Hospitality Design

Inspired on the island of Mallorca in the Balearics, surrounded by beach clubs and large outdoor terraces, the idea grew from the realisation that despite the availability of similar products, no single company was producing a range of product with the diversity we wanted.

38

Pouf Daddy Universal The Pouf Daddy ‘Universal range’ is a midpriced range, universal as it’s priced to suit most budgets, designed for use anywhere – inside and out, to withstand normal domestic use. Made with our own 1680D polyester - the highest thread thickness and durability polyester giving added strength, much higher than other bean bag companies. We like the finish this gives, not only that the fabric is made inherently to BS5852 standards but also add a PVC coating on the back which makes the fabric waterproof.

Pouf Daddy Pouf Daddy Denim Denim hardly needs any introduction, we have produced our favourite styles with our favourite fabric – denim. Like a favourite pair of jeans, they just get better and better (without the rips LOL). It also uniquely has no fat tray to clean. These benefits have been adopted by top chefs and snagged top prize for innovation at The Commercial Kitchen Show where the judges were “Wowed by a British-made design that is a true innovation for chargrilling.”

The greatest benefit, however, is flavour. Synergy Grills get hotter than average chargrills. Heat ‘atomises’ the natural fats that are released during cooking which are misted back into food making it incredibly succulent.

Bright Goods LED filament lamps illuminate Fuller’s pubs LED Eco Lights today announced that Bright Goods LED filament lamps are being installed throughout the Fuller’s managed pub estate to reduce energy and maintenance costs. The project has been designed, managed and delivered by the Light Corporation.

site able to seat 300 people – yet the lighting makes it feel intimate especially in the evening.”

Bright Goods LED filament lamps from LED Eco Lights were first installed in The Sail Loft, a newly built Fuller’s pub in Greenwich, in a lighting scheme created by the Light Corporation. The Sail Loft is part of the new Greenwich Reach development, with floor-to-ceiling glass windows on three sides and a large terrace facing the Thames with views of Canary Wharf, Cutty Sark and the O2 Arena. Its interior takes inspiration from its location, and features nautical touches and maritime bric-a-brac adorning the walls.

Fuller’s was impressed with both the appearance of the lights and the energy efficiencies achieved, and contracted The Light Corporation to survey a substantial part of its managed estate of just under 200 pubs, and recommend low energy Bright Goods LED replacements for each light on the premises. Bright Goods LED lamps are also being fitted into existing Fuller’s pubs as they are refurbished and to other new pubs as they are built. Pubs completed include The Tea Merchant, Canary Wharf; The Pilot, Chiswick; The Queen’s Head, Hammersmith; The Hydrant, Monument; The Pilgrim Inn, Southampton; The White Hart Hotel, Hampton and The William Walker, Winchester.

Tim Henderson, Director of The Light Corporation, said. “We gave the lighting a nautical spin, locating the Bright Goods lamps within basket-style lampshades for example. Bright Goods LED filament lamps are in a class of their own for this kind of setting, offering energy efficient LED technology in a warm, retro style that perfectly suited the ambiance of the pub. The Sail Loft is a large open plan

Commenting, Peter Turner, Property Director at Fuller’s said: “We were very impressed with the appearance of Bright Goods LED lights. They provide illumination that is as warm and welcoming as a filament bulb, maintaining the all-important ambience of the pub in the evening. It is also highly controllable, and can be dimmed as required. It allows us to maintain a

traditional feel while reducing our carbon footprint.” Saima Shafi, Sales and Marketing Director of LED Eco Lights added, “Bright Goods LED lamps can in many cases be slotted directly into a fitting to replace the existing filament, fluorescent or halogen lamp, reducing the replacement cost and enhancing the return on investment. In some cases, the energy saving can be as much as 75% - reducing carbon emissions by over 40 tonnes per year.” www.brightgoods.co.uk
