Hotels4u is giving away £5,000 worth of UK hotel stays to adults born on 25th December

Vizergy, the hospitality industry’s leading provider in hotel Internet marketing, has focused its annual fundraising efforts for the 2014 holiday season on Jacksonville based Angelwood, Inc., a non-profit providing group home facilities for people with special needs, with 24-hour care in a loving home setting, in order to give back and make a lasting impact on the local community.

The UK’s leading hotel booking website has decided to offer this gift to help make up for the fact that for many of its customers, their special day is often overshadowed by baubles instead of balloons and carols instead of candles. Scott Thain, who was born on 25th December 1988, said: “It’s hard to feel special on the one day of the year that everyone exchanges gifts! Plus, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day are all about family time which has meant I’ve never been able to get all my friends together to celebrate my birthday on the 25th.” If you were born on 25th December, call 0844 875 3455 before 31st January 2015 and quote the promotional code ‘H4uXmas14’ to claim your birthday treat. Tim Bekir Commercial Manager at, said: “Christmas should be all about sharing – unless that’s sharing your birthday! That’s why this year we wanted to give Christmas babies a special treat so they can celebrate their birthday in style at one of our 8,000 UK hotels.” For terms and conditions, visit: news/free-hotel-stay-bornchristmas-day/

Gift table from Vizergy’s Holiday Fundraising DriveEach year, Vizergy looks forward to teaming up with a special charitable organization that benefits those in need, in the spirit of giving and kindness. This year, Vizergy employees formed into eight teams to assemble a collection of festive, themed gift baskets that will raise money to support Angelwood, Inc. through a company raffle held at the firm’s annual holiday party. The themes include a “Bro Basket”, “Coffee Basket”, “Put Me in Coach Basket”, “Roaring 20’s Basket”, “Latin Food & Spirits Basket”, “New Year’s Resolution Basket”, “Brewery Basket”, and a “Local Wellness Basket”. 100% of the proceeds raised from these diverse gift packages will be donated to Angelwood, Inc. As a local nonprofit, Angelwood, Inc. largely relies on support from the community through donations, volunteering, and annual fundraisers that include a fashion show, a golf tournament, and a charity motorcycle ride. The organization depends on the funds raised from such events to assist families in caring for the special needs of their loved ones, and Vizergy is thrilled to contribute to this worthy cause on both a company and individual level through its unique charity auction. In 2013, Vizergy proudly raised more than $1,100 for Hubbard House, a safe haven for victims of domestic violence, through its annual employee raffle, and the Vizergy event organizers are anticipating that enthusiastic participation from associates will result in doubling that dollar amount in 2014 to benefit Angelwood, Inc. “As a company, we work just as hard for our community as we do for our clients, and this year the team selected a great local charity,” said Joe Hyman, Founder & CEO of Vizergy. “When I learned we would be raising money for Angelwood this year, I knew we found a fantastic organization that would benefit immensely from our efforts.” “Angelwood is thankful for the selfless support of Vizergy this holiday season,” said Alexis Woods, Director of Community Involvement at Angelwood, Inc. “Funds raised will directly impact our programs for over 300 local children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families, and having the support of friends in the community like Vizergy will help to brighten the lives of those we serve this holiday season and beyond.”

Holiday Inn Darlington Refurbishment Round Two

The Merchant Financial Cyber Partnership announced the next steps for the two industries to continue working together to strengthen the security of the payments system. Launched in February, the Partnership has succeeded in its goal to work collaboratively across the payments system to enhance security in order to protect customers and their data from cyber threats. Strong and productive relationships have been formed across the merchant and financial industries throughout the course of the Partnership’s work and both industries will continue to maintain these relationships.

The second stage of refurbishment at the Holiday Inn Darlington North is now under way with work focusing on the remaining 56 guest rooms, public areas and décor at the Holiday Inn Darlington North due. A project set to complete midDecember 2014.

“This Partnership has been invaluable in ensuring the entire payments system and key stakeholders are working together to combat cyber attacks,” said Sandy Kennedy, Co-Chair of the Partnership and President of the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA). “The threat posed by cyber criminals is increasingly sophisticated and is not unique to any one business, institution, industry or government. It is imperative that our two industries continue to learn from each other in this fight and work together in order to maintain the trust of our customers and collaboratively improve overall security.” “Collaboration between our industries and with law enforcement will help protect consumers from cyber criminals,” said Co-Chair of the Partnership and CEO of the Financial Services Roundtable (FSR) Tim Pawlenty. “This Partnership has formed key links between our industries and we are hopeful these relationships will improve the entire payment system.” The Partnership released eight next steps for ongoing collaboration by Partnership participants in key areas including threat information sharing, cyber risk mitigation, advanced card present & card not present security technology and cyber security legislation. One of the major steps is a joint effort between the two industries to urge Congress to pass cyber threat information sharing legislation. Today, the Partnership sent a letter to Congress outlining joint principles for legislation to enhance cyber security across both the merchant and financial industries. Both industries recognize better information sharing between and among industry and government is important in preventing cyber attacks. In the letter, the merchant and financial services communities expressed support for a set of principles for federal legislation that would increase the current level of voluntary cyber security information sharing, while recognizing key privacy concerns.

Hotelier & Hotel Design

The Partnership brought together executives from the financial services and merchant industries, government and other stakeholders to work together on key public policy issues impacting the entire payment ecosystem. Since February, the Partnership’s 250 participating senior executives from financial services and merchant companies have met nearly 50 times, heard from over 45 experts and participated in numerous outreach events including the 2014 Merchant-Financial Services Cyber Security Summit on Sept 10, and sought consensus on critical policy issues.

Wonderfully Unique

The Port Lympne Mansion Hotel by Tim Johnston

Wonderfully unique is just one of many ways to describe the Port Lympne Mansion hotel near to Hythe Kent. On Arrival you could instantly feel that you are away from the stresses of everyday life. With over 600 acres of land filled with the most beautiful, exotic and in some cases endangered animals this is truly an experience like no other. You are taken back in time with outlay of the Mansion hotel with a vintage décor. The downstairs rooms have been beautifully painted leading up to where you will rest your head at night and where commissioned by Sir Philip Sassoon. This early twentieth-century country house built for Sir Sassoon by Herbert Baker and Philip Tilden is the perfect setting for a weekend away. The style is Cape Dutch architecture which of course fits perfectly with the general feel of the visit.

What makes the difference?

Hotelier & Hotel Design

After you have checked in and taken in the atmosphere of what is already apparent to be a great experience, you can begin your journey around the grounds of Port Lympne Wild Animal Park. Purchased in 1973 by John Aspinall as an expansion to the Howletts Animal Park near Canterbury. Port Lympne is the home to the largest breeding herd of black rhinoceros outside of Africa and Also Hosts “Palace of the Apes” which has the world largest family group of gorillas. With a new “African safari” you can explore the park and come in close contact with rhinoceros, Zebra, Giraffe, Deer and wildebeest. There is no experience like this when looking for a weekend break away.

Venue Profile The Ground also cater for events and have many venues for larger parties including fantastic cottages that sleep 6-8 people with your own Chef and comfortably sized rooms for all. Another of the expanding experiences include outdoor tents which are fully insulated through overlooking the park for summertime stays and the soon to be introduced Tree house accommodation to be complete in early 2015. The Beauty of this stay is that you get to see first-hand the great work that The Aspinall Foundation provides for these animals and also the close relationship between them and their keepers. There is a great Habitual vibe around the park; The Staff show a great deal of care and compassion for the Animal life throughout the reserve. Dining After such an eventful day going around the park you can relax in the very fitting dining area for your evening meal. With a variety of eloquent dishes to choose from you are spoilt with an array of very tasteful starters, Mains and Deserts. I highly recommend the Calamari which was both delicate and full of subtle flavours which culminated into a very delightful starter. With the lamb for main with accompanied their fine house red. Overview When considering a weekend a way like no other look no further than the Port Lympne Mansion Hotel. With the perfect blend of excitement and relaxation you will be extremely catered for in both senses. The reserve are currently looking at their next project which will include Tree house accommodation and with their ever expanding dive into the world of weekend breaks this should be at the very top or your “to do list” 2015. With not only so much history behind the park you must also take in to consideration the fantastic work the staff provide daily for endangered Animals and their continuous work in placing them back into their natural habitat. This is perfect setting not only for a quiet weekend away. It is also perfect for weddings, Anniversary’s and so much more. For more details for reservations please follow the link

Bath & Spa The BLOC hotel chain is a new concept in affordable accommodation, offering a high-end look and luxurious experience at prices that won’t break the bank. Applying a design-ethic which its owner, Colin Graham, describes as ‘pared-down chic’, the very best materials are used but in a way that’s focused on utilising space to the maximum. This approach allows BLOC hotels to be stylish and comfortable, in prime city-centre locations, but at room rates more akin with budget competitors.

Luxury for the masses

BLOC’s latest incarnation in Gatwick airport features bathrooms with fixtures and fittings courtesy of Roca. With products ranging from functional to high-end, and everything in between, the bathroom manufacturer offered the ideal levels of versatility Colin needed to create usable, yet luxurious washrooms. Sanitaryware and furniture was chosen to meet the individual needs of each space – BLOC’s rooms are priced on three levels; basic, executive and luxury. High-end luxury At the ‘high’ end of the scale, the premium brand Armani/Roca was chosen. Featured in BLOC’s ‘Presidential’ and ‘VIP’ rooms, Armani/Roca shallow washbasins have been installed, incorporating an exquisite tinted glass countertop. Designed to allow water to flow smoothly and without splashing, the basins also include an automatic waste and hidden overflow. The elegant matching taps are fitted with 7 litres/minute flow limiters, helping to save both energy and water. Colin explained why Armani/Roca was a must for his hotel. “The inclusion of Armani/Roca has enabled me to lift the level of the special rooms, while enjoying the kudos of being associated with a major luxury brand. Stylish and sleek in design, Armani/Roca fits perfectly with BLOC’s overall look and provides the ‘wow factor’ premium customers are looking for.

Hotelier & Hotel Design

“Throughout the project, my priority has been to choose major brands that are genuinely enthusiastic about what we are trying to do – Armani/Roca has been fantastic in that regard, and beyond the most expensive suites in my hotel, the general Roca range has delivered options for every room type.”

Functional versatility In the hotels ‘Snug and Vista’ rooms, Roca’s Element brassware was chosen. For the ‘Aspire’ rooms, the innovative water-saving W+W, which reuses water from the basin to fill the cistern, provides a contemporary, space saving WC, fitting into the tightest of corners thanks to its L-shaped design and multi-functional usage. “W+W is my personal favourite”, said Colin. “Its ground breaking, working perfectly with our pared down, luxury take on the hotel market.” Visit the Roca London Gallery to view the Armani/Roca collection. Our ranges are as varied as hotels are different

Hotelier & Hotel Design

There are about 10,000 reasonable sized hotels in the UK. And whilst hotel chains tend to create similar looking hostelries, in the main every hotel is different. Yet, very often, hotels choose towels and robes that are identical to the next. Nothing wrong with that and indeed the best selling towels at King of Cotton are hotel standard 500 GSM white towels.

However, it is worth considering what could make any hotel stand out, and what could provide a marketing advantage. For instance, you could be the only hotel in the area offering Organic Towels. Organic products are on the increase and some of the statistics from a recent study are eye-opening. Organic beauty and health products grew by 17% in 2013 alone and 4 out of every 5 homes now buys organic produce.

Towels need not be white and need not be made in the same way. Look at the King of Cotton Zero Twist range. These towels are made from pure cotton which has been spun in such a way that the fibres remain straighter. This process adds strength to the product yet makes the material incredibly light and easier to wash and dry. Zero Twist is available in white and in some very sophisticated colours in towels and robes.

Robes is one area where you really can be different. King of Cotton has seen a dramatic increase in the uptake of more unusual robes by hotel owners which is why they now offer no less than nine different ranges. Some offer ‘stand-out’ by virtue of their heritage, such as the ‘The Ritz Carlton’, a beautifully designed robe, used in one of the world’s grandest venues in 420 GSM soft waffle pure cotton. Other designs that are unique include the Monte Carlo Towelling Robe, as shown, with its contrasting collar and cuffs in three colour ways.

There is an interior design opportunity for hotels in the wide ranges of throws and bedspreads, from contemporary to traditional available from King of Cotton. Phipp Street

Modern Office Space

A creative team from Amin Taha Architects were given a project to transform the 2,800 sq ft of commercial space comprised over a ground and two upper floors at 18 Phipp Street, into modern and stylish office spaces. After consultations with Building Control, they required a clear coating for a staircase to achieve Surface Spread of Flame Protection. Thanks to participation in one of our CPD’s, they knew that Envirograf® would have a product that would meet their criteria. With the help of Andy Wahts, Envirograf’s representative in London, they chose product QVFR for internal application, which is a clear fire retardant coating, available in satin finish, not requiring any top coat. Works have been carried out by Ecore Construction from London. During Mr Waht’s visit at the property, a solution was found to provide 60 minutes fire protection to the exposed timber ceiling without the need to cover them with 2 layers of plasterboard, (by using Envirograf® HW Intumescent Coating System) which would make it more cost effective and allow Architects to achieve more desirable look. Envirograf® Intumescent Steel Coating has also been used, to ensure the construction of the building would be well supported even in the case of a fire.

It can take just a few minutes for unprotected steelwork in a building to attain temperatures of around 550ºC in a fire. At this temperature, steelwork loses its loadbearing capacity and the structure is likely to collapse, giving little time for people to evacuate and even less time for the fire service to bring the fire under control.

Hotel Bar Suppliment Hotel Bar

The bar is a key area for a vibrant, profitable hotel. Not only does a hotel bar have the potential to be a significant source of revenue for the business, but it can also help to define the image and reputation of the establishment, both locally and to a wider market. So what’s the key to pulling in the punters and tempting guests to spend more time in the bar area? Hotelier asks the professionals...

Hotel Bar

Hotelier & Hotel Design

One Hotel Bar Manager believes the foundation of a successful hotel bar is atmosphere. ”A good hotel bar should be a place where you can go to relax in warm surroundings, enjoy quality food and drink with great service, all at good value. It is important to offer a variety of food and drinks to keep things interesting, which is why we serve our popular cocktail tasters paired with mini Borough Market-inspired bites.”

One general manager in Scotland emphasises the importance of interior design in helping to make a bar offering stand out. He explains that his hotel’s bar is “so heavily styled and designed, it doesn’t look like a stereotypical hotel bar”. He adds: “And as the hotel has a separate bar and reception, the customer arrives, checks in and can go straight to the bar to plan their route and visit.”

Another Manager of a bar in a country club confirms the same view that “The success of a good hotel bar is primarily about creating a great atmosphere and ensuring that you can cater for the inevitable diverse range of guests you’ll be welcoming. “It’s also important to make sure it stands out for overnight visitors and they get a sense of where they are, which is why we ensure that not only do we have an extensive drinks selection but we also offer ranges of local produce. We provide Durham gin and vodka along with beers created in the North East, such as those from Camerons and Castle Eden brewery. We find this is all really appreciated by regulars and hotel guests.”

It’s imvportant to play to your strengths and make the most of your location – and he is confident The Huxley does just that, commenting: “With big windows looking out on to Edinburgh’s vibrant West End, there is always something to see – from the unrivalled views of the Castle to the numerous tourists walking in wonder. Even for a city resident, you never get tired of people-watching.” The location is key the ability to be accessible to the public finishing work and on the way home and look inviting for an after work Drink or an eventing client meeting. “A quick glimpse in the window high above the concourse gives a flavour of the bar’s luxurious surroundings, which are part of the offering to make sure those customers stay, and keep coming back.”

Hotelier asks the Professionals Entertainment

Bar trends

Encouraging the custom of non-guests is an important consideration in running a profitable hotel bar and there are various methods for doing this, managing director of a major chain says passing trade can be tempted by “a great selection of products together with a strong entertainment offering, especially at weekends, including sport and live music. It’s important to encourage a family friendly environment within the hotel. This can be achieved with a good selection of soft drinks and snacks, children’s menu, child-friendly facilities and games to keep children entertained while parents and grandparents can relax.”

Keeping up with the latest bar trends is also essential. One Manager observes: “People’s tastes are more refined when it comes to drinks, and we have found that customers are more willing to spend time and money if quality drinks and excellent service are on offer. Cocktails have also become king and we’ve responded to this. We believe that one of the latest trends for hotel bars is to offer a versatile menu combining both cocktails and food, such as our mini cocktail taster menu.”

Hotelier & Hotel Design

One expert believes creating public awareness is essential. “Hoteliers can encourage custom from non-guests as well as guests by effectively using PR and social media, keeping your target audience in the loop. Social media and ensuring a constant connection with our customers is paramount to building a presence and ensuring we are in the hearts and minds of our existing and potential customers. We work hard to keep our content relevant and issued in a timely fashion to keep our customers interested in our offering and what we have to say.”

Another Manager in the field has also seen a real growth in the number of cocktails sold in the bar, as well as demand for named spirits. He comments: “People no longer just ask for a gin and tonic – they want a specific gin and it’s because people are better educated about spirits, I think. Along with a wider range of spirits, craft beers are leading the way. He says: “An influx of micro-breweries have facilitated this growth in recent years. Jamie Oliver and Malmaison hauled up over unpaid Aberdeen fees Celebrity Chef Jamie Oliver’s restaurant and luxury hotel Malmaison are among 42 businesses in Aberdeen facing a hearing over late or unpaid licensing fees. Councillors have requested that representatives of all of the businesses – which include bars, restaurants, hotels and shops – appear on December 10 to explain why the annual payments have not been made on time.

Hotelier & Hotel Design

It is understood that 11 of the 42 premises named also failed to pay on time last year. Members of the licensing board agreed on Thursday to call the companies to account, but a full list was not made public until yesterday. Letters had been sent out advising that fees had to be paid by October 1.

In the case of non payment, the board has a list of options to consider including a warning, suspension or, in the most serious cases, revoking of a premises licence. Under the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005, anyone selling alcohol must pay an annual fee, calculated on the rateable value of the business. Aberdeen solicitor Tony Dawson said unpaid fees caused a lot of unnecessary work for local licensing boards. He said: “Every year, there are many licensed premises which don’t pay in time. “This costs the licensing board a great deal of extra administration work and nowadays a lot of the boards are off the same view which is, if people have been reminded to pay and they haven’t, they will

be called before the board to explain themselves. “The procedure is perfectly fair and reasonable. “It usually turns out that the vast majority of the license holders pay up. “In the past there have been a couple of good reasons put forward like someone being abroad, but in general it is just an oversight.” Other venues named on the list include the Malt Mill bar on Holburn Street, Viva Brazil restaurant at Golden Square, the Hilton Treetops on Springfield Road and the Marriott at Overton Circle in Dyce.

Planning a Bar the Servaclean Way

he team at ServaClean are masters at making the most of behind-the-bar space in both fixed and mobile bars. Here are some of the main points from their bar planning checklist.

Consider whether glasses will be washed in the bar counter or somewhere else. Will you use a cabinet machine or a twin bowl sink for a manual wash & rinse method. Glasswashing needs more than just the machine: you require a sink for ‘slops’, somewhere to set down and somewhere else to drain glasses. You may need a secondary glasswash in case your machine breaks down – a second machine or a twin bowl sink. Also, handwashing is essential to meet health and safety requirements so you must have soap and hand-drying facilities accessible close by.

Glass storage and Serving Ensure that you have enough glasses to serve all your customers at your busiest trading time – the times you make most of your profit ! Choose the best method of glass storage (either on shelves or in glasswasher baskets) to suit your particular operation. Remember that correct storage is just as important as efficient washing if you want to serve a clean glass every time.

Cash Tills How many cash points will you need, and will they be in the counter or on the backfitting? Make sure you take into account the operating height of key pad and cash drawer – can you adjust the height if the till type is changed later? Also consider a receipt printer, card swipe machine and cash float security.

Bottle Cooling and Display Make sure you balance bottle storage capacity with other products on tap. There’s a huge selection of chiller cabinets to choose from – left or right hinged door, sliding door, seethrough, pass-through, etc – so choose what’s best for your operation. Position power points to be easily accessible for service without moving cabinets.

Coffee and Tea Choose a coffee machine carefully and position it for best effect in customer’s view and for convenience of serving. A water treatment unit is normally required, plus fridge space for milk or cream, a coffee grinder and grounds knock-out drawer for espresso machines and a water boiler plus tea pot storage for volume tea sales. You’ll also need a work surface with storage for sugar packs, crockery, cutlery, etc.

Draught Beers & Soft Drinks Position these to face customers approaching the bar and choose dispensers which provide convenient operating heights. Avoid obstructing under-bar work space with dispenser clamps and drip trays and allow space to serve drinks between or around dispenser positions. Remember that good ventilation is essential for beer line cooling whether in a cellar or under the counter.

Counter Design Your counter height must suit the style of operation and undercounter equipment to be accommodated. Location of mains services and beer line connections is very important, as is access to under-bar service ducts from the server’s side of bar to facilitate emergency maintenance without disturbing customers on the other side.

Empties Disposal Do you use disposable or returnable bottles or both? And how will you separate them? When considering the position of your bottle skips or crates remember to make sure the contents are not in the customer’s view.

Drinks Mixing & Cocktails You will require insulated and hygienic storage for ice and fruit slices, conveniently located mixer and liquor bottles, rinsing facilities for shakers and blender cups, counter storage for condiments and accessories and, perhaps, controlled storage for reserve liquors and spirits. Ice is probably your most profitable drink so choose a machine large enough – remembering that it needs water supply and drainage facility and try to locate it away from the servery. Some ice machines are noisy and they all emit a lot of warm air.

Don’t Let Bag Thieves Spoil Your Christmas AS THE festive season gets into full swing, and people get ready to go out and enjoy themselves, it’s important to keep a closer eye on personal belongings. Bag theft traditionally increases on the run up to Christmas, so many bars, hotels, restaurants, pubs and cafes across the UK are offering customers a clever and inexpensive solution to the problem. Venues such as The London Bridge Hotel and Sheraton Park Tower Hotel as well as chains such as Park Plaza and Intercontinental are using the Chelsea Clip in bar and dining areas where they can be fitted inconspicuously under tables to guard against bag snatchers. The Chelsea Clip is a unique deterrent, which has a proven track record of preventing opportunist bag theft from public places. Produced by security company Selectamark, it is an injectionmoulded nylon hook from which a bag or rucksack can be suspended by its own strap.

Hotelier & Hotel Design

Two hands are needed to remove an item from the Clip, making ‘bag snatching’ virtually impossible. It can be easily fitted to tables, walls, bars, behind lavatory doors - in fact, anywhere a customer may need to secure their belongings.

Virtually any public place offers rich pickings for bag thieves with research from retailer John Lewis showing that a woman’s handbag could contain over £1,000 worth of valuable goods including cash, beauty products, an iPad mini, an iPod and a mobile phone. Luxury department store Harrods uses the Chelsea Clip to deter handbag theft and has placed them under tables in their bar and dining areas. The Clips are also being used to protect customers at the Charlotte Street Hotel in Fitzrovia, London. Suitable posters and other display material such as window and menu stickers should always be used in conjunction with The Chelsea Clip as a deterrent to thieves and as a reminder to both customers and staff that the clips are there to be used. The labels, which carry the wording ‘Secure your bag here’ can be placed around the neck of a wine bottle to advertise the clips. One London council had the labels printed in different languages so that tourists and visitors to bars and restaurants could be alerted to the risk of bag theft but protected from it at the same time. Design Flooring Trend 2015:

Pale Wood

ak has long been the most popular timber used for flooring in the UK but in the last twelve months there has been a steadily growing demand for Junckers Nordic Oak, which is now at the point of eclipsing Oak from its place at the helm.

The current interior trend for sumptuous, dark walls has called for new options when it comes to flooring with paler colours making headway. The long-standing trend for shades of grey in interior schemes has also facilitated a shift towards lighter tones in wood flooring, often with a hint of grey. Light, with a white-washed tone, Junckers Nordic treatment adds interest to the colouration and graining of Oak and dons a contemporary twist to our trusted old favourite – a perfect backdrop to contemporary rooms. From hotels to art galleries, public libraries and even gyms, architects and designers are specifying more and more Nordic Oak to achieve a pale finish which reflects a lot of natural light.

Hotelier & Hotel Design

Said Steve Maltby, Managing Director, Junckers Ltd: “Scandinavian style has always had a great influence on the design world, not least in the flooring industry. Light coloured floors reflect natural light and are very popular with architects and interior designers. Very traditional in Scandinavia, whitening timber floors gives a great cross-over look between contemporary and classic.”

Subtly treated with a white-pigmented stain and sealed with Junckers Ultra Matt Lacquer, Nordic Oak is a beautiful and hard-wearing product that comes pre-finished and is ideal for use with underfloor heating. All Junckers’ solid hardwood floors are naturally stable and have a low moisture content and lend themselves perfectly to be installed over underfloor heating. New to the market, Junckers Rustic White Oil is also proving popular with the design community. Simply add more coats for a paler finish, then seal with one of our water based lacquers for a durable finish. Junckers is committed to sustainable forestry and the company is both FSC and PEFC certified.

Light coloured floors reflect natural light and are very popular with architects and interior designers.

The natural and Nordic look is very popular when we design and decorate our homes. If you wish to get the appeal of nature inside you home you should choose a solid hardwood floor as this will be the baseline for the feel of the house. Denmark’s largest producer of Solid Hardwood Flooring, Junckers, has now released three new varieties of the Solid Oak Flooring in the trendy shade of Driftwood Grey – in Oak Plank, Oak Plank Textured and Oak 2-Strip. British Made Fabrics for Bespoke Hotel Interiors Founded in 1837, the same year Queen Victoria was crowned, Abraham Moon & Sons has now been producing fine quality wool fabrics for over 175 years. To add to their long history, Moon’s mill is also the last remaining fully vertical woollen mills left in England (and one of very few left in the UK as a whole) meaning they are the last mill to undertake every process to turn raw wool fibre into luxurious cloth all at the one site. By controlling the dyeing, blending and carding of the fibre, to spinning the yarn and then to weaving and finishing the cloth means Moon can ensure their customers the peace of mind of continuity of standards and quality year on year. Moon has long held huge esteem in the world of fashion. The company has its roots in apparel fabrics and has a customer base of the “who’s who?” in the fashion world, including Ralph Lauren, Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry, Lacoste, Paul Smith and many more.

Hotelier & Hotel Design

In the 1990’s Moon brought their design, innovation and heritage to the world of interiors; designers from the fashion world merged their ideas with those of interior designers and now Moon has thirteen 100% wool

furnishing collections that cater for both domestic and hospitality interiors. The name Moon has become synonymous with quality wool interior fabrics so whether it is fabric for seating, curtains, blinds or just decorative soft furnishings, Moon has a vast array of designs and colour palettes to suit any interior vision. For their first visit to the Independent Hotel show, Moon will be showcasing ‘The Dales Collection’. New for 2014, this collection is inspired by the natural beauty and colour of the Yorkshire Dales so close to the mill’s doorstep. Over two volumes, the contemporary Spot-Check design has been lovingly recreated as an eye-catching furnishing fabric, with complementary patchworks, windowpanes and checks completing the look. Fresh colours of the ‘Spring’ volume take in subtle shades of apple, lime, & raspberry, contrasted alongside the richer ‘Autumn’ combinations of damson, mulberry & walnut. Grosvenor Wilton Combines Retro Designs And Contemporary Colour In First Retail Carpet Collection It has been a very interesting time for Grosvenor Wilton. Last year they were commissioned to produce the carpets for the sets of ITV series Downton Abbey and in May 2014 Kidderminster-based carpet manufacturer Grosvenor Wilton, one of the UK’s finest and oldest carpet manufacturers, launched its first retail range. The British-made Diversity Collection is based on classic retro designs and modern colours. It will retail from £79 per linear metre and will be sold through several channels including http://www. and via social media. Grosvenor Wilton’s new Diversity Collection transfers the company’s expertise in specialist restoration, historic and interiordesigner markets to retail carpeting. The 12 launch designs are united by the idea of ‘a fusion of heritage and fresh new design’. The new collection is inspired by the company’s huge archive of classic 1950s and 1960s carpet designs – with the addition of contemporary colours. Benjamin Grosvenor started carpet making in 1790. Since then, the business that has evolved into Grosvenor Wilton has specialised in the most discerning requirements for design and durability. Grosvenor Wilton is traditionally associated with highend bespoke carpet for residential and historic houses, film sets and museums. The Worcestershire company’s portfolio includes many high profile commissions: carpeting for Buckingham Palace’s throne room; the set of ITV’s Downton Abbey; and Stephen Spielberg’s blockbuster, Lincoln. Now, for the first time, the quality and design flair that royalty and Hollywood stars walk on is available as a retail product.

Hotelier & Hotel Design

As well as demonstrating over 200 years of carpet making expertise, the new collection is exceptionally versatile. Applications include wall-to-wall fitting, runners or being made up into edged rugs. Recommended retail prices are from £79 per linear metre. The new range will be available through http://www.

Announcing the launch, Grosvenor Wilton’s managing director, Malcolm Foley, said: “Our new Diversity Collection unlocks the huge potential of the luxury retail carpet market. With over 200 years’ expertise distilled into the new range, discerning homeowners can combine unique style with the quality and pedigree that delights the most demanding carpet buyers. Seeing and feeling is the key to understanding our fusion of heritage and fresh new design. Were he still around, I’m sure Benjamin Grosvenor would be amazed by our novel approach to carpet retailing using technology and media such as the diversity collection website.” For more information, please call Tori on 01242 220233 or visit

here gold and money were once stored in the past, today an oasis of calm awaits guests and non-residents of Park Hyatt Vienna’s Arany Spa. Located in a former bank vault, the Arany Spa is set against a decadent backdrop of luxurious gold, mother of pearl and precious wood. Guests are invited to dive into a world of tranquility and enjoy sensual fragrances and aromas, serene music and pampering beauty treatments, resulting in total relaxation and rejuvenation of body and mind.

As the spa is located in the former headquarters of the Austrian Hungarian Monarchy Bank, the concept of the Park Hyatt’s Arany Spa (arany meaning ‘gold’ in Hungarian) was developed by the hotel’s architects around the building’s former bank vault. To allow the spa area more space and free flowing air, all of the intermediate ceilings were removed, thus creating a generous space in which to host the hotel’s unique and elegant gold pool.

Enjoy golden moments of relaxation and tranquility at the newly opened five-star hotel’s stunning spa

The original three-tone steel door from Wertheim , the company that initially installed the door in the former bank vault 100 years ago, remains in the same place. An homage to the building’s golden past, Arany Spa’s stunning use of mother of pearl and natural gold reflects the philosophy and elegance of the spa, where beauty and relaxation are key principles to the overall guest experience.

ILA Launches First ILA Only Spa at Raas Jodjpur

eyond Organic British beauty expert ila is delighted to unveil its new brand of ‘ila only’ spas with the launch of ila only Spa Raas Jodhpur – an inspiring blueprint for the heartfelt, healing havens to follow.

volved from years of experience creating, growing and supporting some of the world’s most inspiring spa success stories, ila only spas are extraordinary soulful spaces where therapists trained in mindfulness and heart consciousness pave the way for transformative healing. Resonating excellence at every level, they help guests to reconnect with themselves, others and the world around them – combining the purest of intentions with the highest levels of natural and ethical integrity to create success both commercially and authentically. “We have long wanted to develop a range of bespoke spa environments that remain true to their surroundings, hold the essence of wellbeing, and deliver way beyond guest expectations,” explains ila’s Founder, Denise Leicester. “ila only Spa Raas Jodhpur couldn’t be a more energising start to that story.” Raas Jodhpur is a luxury boutique hotel located within Jodhpur’s ancient city walls, in the direct gaze of the 500-year-old Mehrangarh Fort. Intelligent design-led interiors fuse antiquity, innovation and sustainability. Outside, the Blue City twirls in a kaleidoscope of colour and creativity, music and dance, literature and love, inspiring ila only Spa Raas Jodhpur’s altogether different artistic immersion: into India’s healing arts. Within the spa, marma massage, yogic healing and energy work combine with the region’s most profound natural products: blissfully nurturing Rajasthani damascena rose otto; sensual raat ki raani (tuberose) from Himachal; sacred sandalwood from Mysore; balancing Keralan Jasmine; and the healing energy of Himalayan salt crystals – the remains of an ocean trapped over 250 million years ago. Raas’s charismatic co-owner, Nikhilendra Singh, echoed the sentiments in his summary: “I feel ila’s roots are in India so I see our partnership as ila ‘coming home’; I’m delighted that the first ila only spa will be housed at RAAS.” Ila Only Spa treatments at Raas Jodhpur start from £28 / 2,800 INR Nightly rates at Raas Jodhpur are available from £205/ 20,500 INR per room per night for two people sharing including breakfast.
