GEEP Project – New technology line in an Ice Cream factory This ice cream factory is in the process of modernising all its equipment. At present it produces around 1600 tons of ice cream a year and meets 20-25% of the national demand. This year it is time to replace the technology line during the winter (nonproductive) season ready for new production in the spring. A walk through energy audit was performed in order to identify key areas for energy efficiency measures. Energy consumption at the ice cream factory is a big part of the production cost. This is because:
The technology line is old, inefficient and manually operated. The gas-fired ovens for wafer cups production are old, manually operated and controlled. The electrical HV/MV substation consists of outdated equipment manually operated.
The analysis indicated that replacement of the technology line, with a cost of about 245,000 USD, is the best option for this year, with annual savings of 574,600 kWh, which means around 46,000 USD can be saved from operational expenses.
