GEEP Project – New boiling and mixing equipment in an Ice Cream factory This ice cream factory is in the process of modernising all its equipment. At present it produces around 1600 tons of ice cream a year and meets 20-25% of the national demand. This year it is time to replace the ice cream mixture preparation, boiling and cooling units during the winter (non-productive) season ready for new production in the spring. An energy audit was performed in order to identify key areas for energy efficiency measures. Energy consumption at the ice cream factory is a big part of the production cost. This is because:
The ice cream mixture preparation, boiling and cooling equipment is old and inefficient; The gas-fired ovens for wafer cups production are old, manually controlled; The electrical MV/LV substation consists of outdated equipment.
The analysis indicated that complete replacement of the ice cream mixture preparation, boiling and cooling equipment, with a cost of about 245,000 USD, is the best option, with annual savings of 574,600 kWh, which means around 46,000 USD can be saved from operational expenses.
