Allegany State Park The Largest State Park in New York State

View of Kayakers from the shore at Allegany State Park

New York’s Largest State Park, Allegany State Park, lies right in Salamanca’s backyard. This extraordinary park has a multitude of yearround, outdoor activities. The two sections of the park, Red House Area and Quaker Area, offer natural adventures for those seeking to explore the great outdoors.

Visitors will enjoy the interesting exhibits found in the Natural History Museum located in the Red House Administration Building. The old Quaker Store houses a park museum displaying unique features and attractions, both past and present, and the history of Allegany State Park.

The Art Roscoe Trail System features 24 miles of interconnecting loop trails. These trails are some of the best single-track and doubletrack Mountain Biking in Western NY. Other miles of trails are perfect for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, snowmobiling, crosscountry skiing and snowshoeing. Bikes and cross-country ski rentals are available.

We recommend asking for a schedule of events at the park to catch an activity with one of the park's naturalists, as they have knowledge on the flora and fauna.

There are gift shops, a restaurant, and other attractions such as Stone Tower, Thunder Rocks, a beaver pond, Bridal Falls, and old fire towers. Or spend time around the campfire, In the summer months, enjoy Red House and with your family, connecting to each other. Quaker lakes. Beverages Breweries, Wineries & Distilleries Local breweries, wineries, and distilleries are a hot topic and the Enchanted Mountains has them all! You can find local craft beverages throughout Cattaraugus County. So come on—pull up a chair, take a load off, and have a drink. Cheers! Please don’t forget—enjoy responsibly! EMFun.us/Beverages

Ellicottville Brewing Co.

Ellicottville Distillery

Ellicottville Brewing Company, established by beer-loving founder Peter Kreinheder in 1995, not only introduced craft beer culture in Western New York, but continues to set the standard for innovative and authentic brewing of delicious craft beer leading EBC to win three International World Beer Championship Awards. EBC has a brewpub, beer garden, winter event igloo, and event rentals.

Surrounded by rolling hills and agricultural fields is the Ellicottville Distillery. They focus on making the highest quality boutique spirits by growing most of their ingredients from seed to glass. Their line of spirits, The Agronomist, embodies this connection; producing Corn Whiskey, Corn-Distilled Vodka, Apple-Distilled Vodka, and honey spirit.

Ellicottville Winery

Four Mile Brewing

A father-in-law and son-in-law craft the wine on-site using only local grapes and all-natural ingredients to create 18+ varieties of wine. Grapes are harvested, crushed, blended, aged, and bottled on-site by two people, Dominic and Sam. Their secret to great wine? They’ve learned the details, and they attend to them every single day.

A great stop for craft beer enthusiasts, Four Mile Brewing is Olean, NY’s first brewery since prohibition closed the doors on this same location in 1920. Nearly 100 years later, four Olean guys had a crazy idea: A high quality, low cost, local beer; a product the people of the area could be proud to call their own. And with that, they started Four Mile Brewing!

Ski or Snowboard The feel of controlling your speed on the snow

Skiing through snow-covered pines camera Holiday Valley Resort

There are two great places to ski or snowboard in the Enchanted Mountains: Holiday Valley Resort and HoliMont in the small ski town of Ellicottville, NY. Holiday Valley Resort features 60 trails and slopes with a 750-foot vertical drop, 13 lifts, and four terrain parks. While Mother Nature provides plenty of snow, dropping on average 180 inches of snowfall each year, Holiday Valley takes it to another level. Each year, they invest in snowmaking equipment, currently totaling 701 snowguns and 95% snowmaking coverage. Holiday Valley offers nighttime skiing at its finest--39 slopes and trails remain open well after dark, creating a magical world of twinkling lights dotting the slopes. Check the ski conditions and learn about other activities at HolidayValley.com. HoliMont is North America’s Largest Private Ski Resort, but opens its doors to non-members during the week. The terrain is incredible, the lift lines are short, and the grooming impeccable. The slopes at HoliMont are North-facing, creating amazingly true fall lines. The resort is expanding westward and new trails are created every year. This resort has: a family-friendly atmosphere, 55 slopes and trails, and 100% snowmaking coverage. Please note, there is no night time skiing available. Learn more at HoliMont.com. Watch the exciting races during the U14 NY State Championships are scheduled from March 5 to March 8 at HoliMont. Other hot spots include Lime Lake, Case Lake, New Albion Lake, and Harwood Lake. Each year the DEC Randolph Fish Hatchery stocks the abovementioned lakes: once in the spring and again in the fall with surplus brood stock. Theatre Companies Thornton Wilder once said “I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being”. Each of our theatre companies offers local residents the chance to share their gifts and express themselves creatively. When it all comes together on performance nights, the audience members will be delighted and quite often surprised at the quality and talent of our community members. Olean Community Theatre has been providing quality, live entertainment for New York's Southern Tier since 1979. It is one of New York State's most award-winning community theaters, most recently winning several TANYS Awards in 2019 for "A Year of Magical Thinking" and "Legally Blonde." A true community effort, in the first 27 years of their creation they showcased their talents in over 100 productions. Visit them online at OleanCommunityTheatre.com. Olean Theatre Workshop has been providing family theater for over 37 years, enriching, educating, and entertaining the community 40

through the shared experience of live performances. They also offer a Theatre Workshop Kids' Program, which introduces children to the general, the technical aspect, and the performance side of theater. They host Shakespeare in Oak Hill Park, transporting audiences to Elizabethan-style theatre. Set in Mid-August each year, a different play is performed in an outdoor setting, free to lovers of Shakespeare, fresh air, sultry nights, and good times. Bring a picnic basket, lawn chair or blanket, and enjoy the mood and atmosphere. Visit them online at OleanWorkshop.org. The Cattaraugus County Living Arts Association calls the classic Ray Evans Seneca Theater home. Located in the center of the City of Salamanca, on the iconic corner of Broad Street and Main Street, the name pays homage to Ray Evans—songwriter best known for famous ditties like "Silver Bells" and the score from "The Lemon Drop Kid"–who was born and raised in Salamanca. At least two full-scale productions and one annual Christmas Variety Show are held here each year. Their prodcution of “Beauty and the Beast” earned numerous TANYS awards in 2018. They also hold summer programs and

youth theater workshops. Visit them online at RayEvansSenecaTheater.org. 2020 Theater performances (as well as yearly events) can also be found on the pull out map insert located in the center of this Guide.

Artists The talent of our individual artists is much bigger than would be expected. There are also many forms – painting, sculpture, film-making, photography, glass, jewelry, basket weaving, paper arts, and fabric art. With the beautiful inspiration of our natural surroundings and the muse-like peace and quiet, unique to country living, it's no wonder that our artists are so spectacular. Discover more artists at MyArtsCouncil.net.

Music Classical performances take place in the county thanks to groups such as the Southern Tier Symphony, Olean Barbershop Chorus, and Keynote Chorus. Large scale musical acts are hosted by the

Seneca Allegany Resort and Casino, featuring “Abba: The Concert” in February, Aaron Lewis in March, and Musical tribute to Buddy Holly in July. The Ellicottville Summer Music Festival and Allegany State Park's Rock the Park and Family Beach Party are a great way to enjoy outdoor concerts throughout the summer! There’s great local talent here like Nick Kody and the Creek Road Band, The Hootz or the Diggin Roots Band. Check EMFun.us/Events for more local bands.

The carriage house on the property features the Olean Pointe Museum, filled with history of Olean. Striving to become self-funded, the historical house is now hosting more events, which include psychic fairs, Pie on the Porch, extra Holiday openings, and their Victorian Christmas!
