EMU Support Staff Ann Pierson Academic Counselor

Ann Pierson is in her 11th year as an academic counselor for the athletics department at Eastern Michigan University. Pierson joined the SASS staff after spending six years as an assistant coach for the EMU softball team. Pierson earned a bachelor’s degree in recreation and parks managements with an emphasis in therapeutic recreation from Central Michigan University in 1987. She earned her master’s degree in sport management from EMU in 2011.

While an undergrad at CMU, Pierson helped CMU win two MidAmerican Conference softball championships (1983 and 1986) and one league basketball title (1982-83). She played on CMU softball teams that qualified for three NCAA regional appearances. A native of Ann Arbor, Pierson lettered in basketball and softball at Gabriel Richard High School. She helped the softball team win the state of Michigan Class D championship as a freshman and senior and was named All-State as a senior. A two-time Class D All-State selection in basketball, Pierson led the team to the Class D state championship game in her final season. Pierson and her son, Brian (18), reside in Ypsilanti.

Brad Pierson Assistant Athletic Trainer

Bradley Pierson is in his second year with the Eastern Michigan University Sports Medicine Staff. He serves as the primary athletic trainer for the men’s basketball team, volleyball and crew teams. A 2009 graduate in athletic training at Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, W.Va., Pierson joined the EMU sports medicine staff in 2009 as a graduate assistant and completed his master’s degree in 2011 in exercise physiology.

After earning his M.A. at EMU, Pierson joined the West Virginia University Technical Institute of Technology as an assistant athletic trainer and professor in the physical education department from Aug. 2011 until accepting his new position at EMU. A native of Charleston, W. Va., the 25-year-old Pierson (6-1087) graduated from Buffalo High School in 2005. From there he served as a student trainer in athletics while an undergraduate at Alderson-Broaddus before graduating in 2009. Pierson is a certified athletic trainer in the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. He is married to Bridget Conley and they reside in Ypsilanti.

Greg Pyszczynski

Associate Head Sports Performance Coach

Greg Pyszczynski, a 2008 graduate of Saint John Fisher College, was promoted to the position of associate head sports performance coach in October 2011. The 27-year-old Pyszczynski (12-11-84) joined the EMU Sports Performance Staff in June 2009 as an intern and worked his way into a graduate assistant position and then full-time. Prior to joining the EMU staff, Pyszczynski was the volunteer head strength and conditioning coach and a graduate assistant football coach at Utica (N.Y.) College in 2008-09. While at Utica, he also supervised the strength and conditioning for the men’s

lacrosse, women’s ice hockey and women’s field hockey teams. In the 2007-08 year he was an assistant strength and conditioning coach and assistant defensive line coach for the football team at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, N.Y. A native of Buffalo, N.Y., Pyszczynski was the captain of the wrestling and football teams and also played lacrosse at West Seneca East High School. After graduating from high school in 2003, he went on to captain the St. John Fisher College football team while earning first-team Empire 8 All-Conference honors and helping lead the team to two NCAA post-season tournament appearances and a Final Four spot, in 2006.
