register W ORK I NG I T: PUB L IC H E ALT H Jennifer “Jenny” Albertini 04MPH is the senior HIV/ AIDS technical adviser on the Africa Bureau’s Health Team at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Washington, D.C. In this role, she focuses on how the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) policies get implemented in the field and how African AIDS programs are supported. Albertini has seven years of experience working in the field in Africa, first in Zambia and then in Swaziland. In the Zambia, she was the point-of-contact for male circumcision activities for PEPFAR. In Swaziland she served as the PEPFAR country director and prevention adviser. international commercial arbitration, is the first recipient of the AtlAS Fellowship, which is named in honor of the Atlanta Arbitration Society. Ha will work at the Atlanta Center for International Arbitration and Mediation, a partner with the Georgia State University College of Law at their new facility in downtown where she will host international arbitrations and mediations. Ismael Loera Fernandez 13C has been chosen as one of 30 recipients of the 2015 Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans, the premier graduate school fellowship for immigrants and children of

immigrants. Loera Fernandez, who double majored in chemistry and economics at Emory, is pursuing a PhD in chemistry at Rice University in Houston where the Soros Fellowship will support his postgraduate research on synthesizing bismuth carboxylate complexes, which have antibacterial and antiparasitic applications. Loera Fernandez came to the United States at age eleven when his parents made the difficult decision to leave their lives and family in Mexico to try to provide a better life for their family. While at Emory, Loera Fernandez’s status as an undocumented immigrant changed when he became a recipient of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), allowing him to apply to graduate school. His senior thesis at Emory on using the research of Emory faculty to teach chemistry undergraduates earned him magna cum laude honors. Christina Heddesheimer 13L of Dallas, Texas, a tax attorney, is a senior associate for KPMG’s mergers and acquisitions practice. Christopher J. Szarke 13T of Ithaca, N.Y., was appointed rector of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Belfast, Maine, on July 7. James C.
