Walking with Emmaus

Entering another year of grace and growth, our hearts are full of gratitude for the extraordinary journey God has led us on—and for you, our faithful companions along the way.

This year marks our third anniversary, a beautiful milestone made possible by your prayers, generosity, and belief in our mission. What began as a vision rooted in the compassion of Christ has now become a vibrant ministry, walking alongside families across the Denver metro area with love, dignity, and spiritual care.

Our story is built upon a remarkable legacy. More than a century ago, the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor began ministering to those in need. That devotion was carried on by Dominican Home Health, and now lives on through Emmaus Catholic Hospice. Today, we continue this sacred tradition — bringing Christ-centered care not only to the body, but to the soul, especially as loved ones prepare for their final journey home.

In this Impact Report, we are humbled to share just a few of the ways your support has borne fruit:

• Expanded Service Area: We expanded our service area from a 10-mile radius to 20 miles. The best news — we set an ambitious goal to reach 25 miles by the end of 2025—and, by God’s grace and your support, we've already reached 24 miles. We will continue to grow thoughtfully and intentionally, ensuring that every mile reflects our mission to bring faith-filled hospice care into more homes.

• Compassionate Staffing: We remain committed to one of the lowest patient-to-nurse ratios in Colorado. This ensures our skilled caregivers are truly present—not just in body, but in spirit—providing companionship, comfort, and prayerful presence at the bedside.

• Sacred Encounters: Perhaps most moving of all, we’ve had the privilege of accompanying souls and their families at life’s most precious threshold. Every encounter is a testament to the transformative power of Christ’s love and your unwavering support.

As Colorado’s only Catholic nonprofit home hospice, the journey has not always been easy. But your faithfulness has made it possible for us to remain strong in mission and rich in mercy.

Thank you for standing with us. Your prayers, advocacy, and generosity sustain this apostolate. As we look to the year ahead, we do so with hope and with renewed commitment to ensuring that every family in need can receive compassionate, Christ-centered care at the end of life.

Let us continue to walk together — sharing the hope of Christ, one sacred patient at a time.

With deepest gratitude,

Since June 2023:

Emmaus Catholic Hospice Care Team: Rooted in Faith, United in Mission

At Emmaus, our care team recently came together for a special working retreat — a meaningful time set aside for prayer, reflection, and connection. Through thoughtful dialogue and team-building, we contemplated on the mission that unites us and the values that guide every act of care.

We discerned foundational words that truly reflect the heart of our ministry. In one voice, we affirmed the values that ground our service and express our identity:

Christ-centered. Compassion. Integrity. Humility. Joy.

These words are not only principles — they are the lived expression of our love and hope, present in every visit, every prayer, and every moment shared with those we serve. Our dedicated interdisciplinary team — comprising doctors, nurses, certified nursing assistants, social workers, spiritual, bereavement, volunteer specialists, and administrative staff — continues to faithfully build and grow Catholic home hospice care in Colorado.

Yet beyond our professional roles, what truly sets Emmaus apart is our shared spiritual rhythm. Each day begins and ends in communal prayer, as we ask for God's mercy, peace, and presence for our patients and their loved ones. We are a community of caregivers rooted in faith, committed to compassionate service, and united in Christ’s love.

This is the heart of Emmaus Catholic Hospice.
