Crafting a menu that makes you want to pick up a smoothie and head down to the beach.
Surfin Smoothies is a smoothie hut located in Captiva, Florida. The target audience for Surfin Smoothies are surfers looking for a healthy snack or meal after a day on the waves, or tourists to do their instagram worthy acai bowls and the trendy interior. I used wood to construct a surfboard shaped menu because it is natural and earthy which would appeal to my target audience. I crafted the wooden surfboard menu to
stand up by the fin so the menu looked aesthetically pleasing on a table. For the logo, I chose a handwritten font to give the logo a personality that matches its surf customers, and manipulated the text to make the “N” look like a straw. I specifically chose a color palette that reflected the essence of the ocean.

Bringing the spine chilling story of Coraline alive through a creative, and hand crafted cover design.
“Coraline” has always been one of my favorite movies and books. I started out my process by listing significant and important imagery. The audience of “Coraline” is young children ranging from 10 and up, who are interested in the horror book genre. The major challenge I faced was my ambitious decision to sew the title of the book into the cover. It took several attempts to get the title to be as legible as it needed it to be. It was the right decision, because it
created an intriguing cover and added texture which fits extremely well with the symbolism of the book. As part of the limitations for this assignment, the book had to be completely hand crafted. I struggled making the body copy as neat as I would have liked. Sewing into the book meant I had to be careful and tedious with the stitching, so I did not ruin the other elements of the design.

VEG is a wellness app that encourages the user to eat more veggies. The target user for this app, an 18-24 year old college student with nutrition gaps in their diet. The user’s intention to download this app could be a desire to create a new habit of eating veggies. It could also be tied to dissatisfaction with their health and this could be a solution. This audience loves fun, interactiveness, speed and feeling
rewarded when it comes to the user experience of an app. I considered these factors when moving into the app design. I added features to the app like a badge system and pop ups for eating a veggie to create a rewarding experience. I strategically made design choices that reflected health and vegetables by using the color green and having vegetable imagery throughout the app.

Developing a luxurious golf vacation brand and bringing it to life through cohesive branding.
Velocity is an elite golf resort that has multiple golf courses, a luxurious hotel, and a pro shop. I wanted to keep the branding consistent throughout the project, and to do this I needed to create a responsive logo that would fit within various platforms. I chose a font that has an elegant and lavish feel. The target audience for my brand are golf
enthusiasts in the 23-50 age demographic. I catered my design choices to the target audience by using a golf inspired color palette. My goal was to have consistent and cohesive branding that brings Velocity to life through golf balls, signs, billboards, golf visors and more.

Smitten Kitten is a dairy line for cats and kittens. The products include cat/kitten milk, milk-based cat treats and cat ice cream. The target audience for Smitten Kitten are female cat lovers in Generation Y (The Millennials) ages 21-41. I catered my design choices to the target audience by using a
feminine color palette, and cat related imagery. I knew it was necessary for the products to have visual coding for different flavors that would make it effortless for a shopper to tell what the product is. I created patterns and an adaptive logo to brand Smitten Kitten effortlessly upon all platforms.

Choosing a theme of “A CLOSER LOOK: Portraits of Women and creating a microsite of that exhibit.
“A CLOSER LOOK: Portraits of Women” is a RISD museum microsite. For this project, I had to choose 10 pieces of artwork that fit together. I chose portraits of women for my exhibit theme. These pieces were framed very similarly and the specific framing of these art pieces enhance the details of these women. As far as the design, I made specific design choices to enhance the pieces of art rather than clash with it. All of these portraits of women had a very mature aesthetic
so I took that into consideration while choosing the fonts for the logo and the website. The RISD museum is extremely modern so I wanted to create typography with a mature and modern essence. For the home page, I created a canvas texture over the featured image to create a homepage that was visually appealing and connected back to the idea of art on a canvas.

Handcrafting and printing menus that brings the personality of Southern Comfort to life.
Southern Comfort is a barbecue popup restaurant at Johnson and Wales University. For this project, I was in a team of designers, and our job was to create deliverables (both print and web) for their restaurant. My deliverables were to create a large scale menu, a hand-held menu, and a qr code that leads to the pdf of the menu on a mobile device. For all of these elements, I wanted to incorporate the branding
elements to capture the essence of the Southern Comfort brand, and also to make the menus cohesive with the rest of the deliverables. I used the color palette, the adaptive logo, the patterns and the typography to craft the menus. As far as the wooden menu, I laser engraved the logo into a dark stained wood to create a rustic aesthetic.

Turning items in the dollar section into luxury through branding and a website.
Zen Beauty and Bath is a brand I created from items in the $5 and under bins at Target. The assignment was to brand an item/items that were under $5, and create a website that featured the products. Zen is an affordable but luxurious bath and beauty company that offers perfect products for a spa night with the girls or a relaxing self care day on a budget. It is catered towards the 16-24 girls/women demographic.
I took the audience into consideration when it came to the images, color palette and typography. I decided on a muted green and gray color palette for a calming aesthetic.
I took the videography and photos of the products and I wanted them to be bright and blend well into the website. I used scroll animations throughout the site to make it more interactive and pleasant for the user.

Coding Javascript to create an IMBD website that specializes in chick flicks.
Chick Flix is essentially an IMBD website specifically catered to “chick flicks’’ or romantic comedies. The target audience for Chick Flix are women in the 17-24 demographic who are interested in watching movies in the romantic comedy genre. The user of this site is also looking for recommendations and for extra information like the IMBD link and the director. I catered the design choices to please the target audience by
using a feminine color palette. I also chose to put “Legally Blonde” as the hero image on the home page because the photo colors matched the site well and this is a movie a typical romantic comedy fan would recognize right away. I used an API directory to code Javascript to have updated movies appear on the sidebar and for other elements of the site.

Creating a pleasant user experience to build your own burger.
BYOB (Build Your Own Burger) is a higher end fast food restaurant that offers ordering Kiosks for the customers. The service that BYOB provides is a service to order and customize your own burger. The user for this interface is a picky college student looking for an above average burger. They also gravitate to no social interaction as far as ordering
their burger. The context in which users will be using this is in a restaurant. I chose the orange/red color palette due to that color associated with “hunger”. I wanted to create a clean interface with white space and hierarchy so the user can have a pleasant and easy experience building their own burger.

#INFLUENCED is a festival website marketed towards aspiring influencers who want to meet social media stars. I catered the design choices to appeal to the target audience. The target audience for #INFLUENCED are women in the 17-24 demographic who are interested in content creation and the stars who are appearing at the festival. I chose a feminine color palette and created an adaptive logo that could be used throughout the site. I implemented the
hashtag element throughout the site by creating a pattern with it, applying it in the image styles and using it in some of the language to appeal to the social media lovers. I created consistency throughout the site and used similar layouts across the pages, kept a consistent color palette and used consistent header and body copy fonts.
