CONTENTS 1. Portfolio CV 2. Art School Re-imagined.

Creation is a powerful skill, an intriguing ability evolving from our originalities and perspectives. By formulating our own unique creations, we may endeavour to create a parallel between our imagination and the world in which we live... This portfolio represents a selection of academic work realised over the past 3 years. This experience gave me the opportunity to increase my design and technical skills as well as improve my ability to work in a group. I am in constant search of gaining new knowledge through traveling, meeting new people, reading, drawing and designing

| IWIC design competition University of Suffolk - 3rd place

This project required a creative design proposal for a creative thinking room, that sits alongside a more conventional office space in the newly built atrium at Suffolk University. This required strong representation skills and high quality 3D visuals. I developed the brief into an innovative and cost effective design that responded to the physical and cultural context whilst working to a budget. I was able to produce a strong portfolio exhibiting my proposal, coming third place in the competition, with knowledgeable feedback given stating the design was strong, well executed, innovative with beautiful presentation images. 2015

| EeStairs International Competition

To produce a design that was not only used as part of the design studio module but also to submit as part of an international competition. The brief was to design in innovative staircase in a commercial space. Our design had to be more than a staircase and to make the vertical movement through a workspace a delight, not a necessity. We had to think outside the box. Not only in terms of function, but also in relation to shape, materials and construction techniques. Skills were gained the meet the needs of the client, work to a deadline and produce work which was technically feasible.

ART SCHOOL RE-IMAGINED

2

Project Through key site mapping and researching students and tutors needs and aspirations for the art building at the Suffolk University, the main theme is a place for transformation and to exhibit all the art that is created in this building. This led me to the concept of the metamorphosis of the butterfly, preparing the work inside the cocoon. The butterfly then breaks through the cocoon and displays its art form. The transformation of the Caterpillar to the butterfly can be compared to recycling a plastic bottle, it can be melted down into an entirely different shape. This is what happens inside the chrysalis. Much of the body breaks itself down into imaginable cells, which are undifferentiated -- like stem cells, they can become any type of cell. The imaginable cells put themselves back together into a new shape. A few parts of the body, such as the legs, are more or less unchanged during this process. This process of complete transformation is known as holometabolism. Studying at university resembles holometapolism as you have to move out of your comfort zone and are pushed to your extremities to change and adapt to the particular field of study. The proposed layout for the art building would be to have all the classrooms in the center of the building (the cocoon) and there is a gallery space surrounding the classrooms. The walls to the classrooms would be smart glass which can be opaque but also translucent. During show time at the end 3 of the year, the smart glass is opaque and work is placed on the walls.

THE REGAL HOTEL 10

Project The proposed brief is to regenerate the old cinema in Colchester which has been derelict since 2002. The dilapidating building is a prominent character in the street which attracts trespassers and vandals. The proposal for this building is to transform it into a hotel, this will generate income for the town and re-invent the grand structure which over powers the street with the empty shell of the building. The considerations for this hotel would be a 4-5* boutique hotel which will embrace the history of the building which will be incorporated into the design. As the building is such a prominent character in the street, the street will also be incorporated into the use of the building. I wanted to incorporate the old use of the cinema into my hotel design, so initially I wanted to create a show that was ongoing in the hotel. To have a function room that could be rented out to the public. The bar down the road Qube, held salsa dance classes, but when they closed for refurbishment and reopned they could no longer accommodate them. I also intended to let the function room out to students for their drama shows and dance perfomances and hold exhibitions in the function room that looked onto the courtyard. The courtyard would be the main viewing port.

Debates on contemporary practice Immersive Distillation Experimentation Contemporary debates aims to tackle advanced methods of research by making and gaining specialised knowledge about theories and practices within wider areas of research. Using imagination, critical thinking and technical competencies. I worked collaboratively with three of my fellow interior architecture and design students to produce practical, theory driven responses and created abstract ideas which has generated our own individual critical evaluation. This study involved a series of investigations through research and experimentation, firstly discussing the theory of immersion and how concentration can relate to the fully immersive experience. Secondly, altering the sensorium and the threshold, thirdly the different states of consciousness and how, as a team we could create an immersive experience.

Final project We built a 3m by 2.8m by 2.1m dark room installation and constructed it so it would be as dark as possible inside. We painted the interior black and the layout of the opening trapped the light. We wired an Aurduino to a sensor and placed 7 televisions inside. The Aurduino was pragrammed so that once the participant entered the dark installation room, they would trigger the motion sensor, which would turn all the televisions on for 8 seconds. After this period of time, the televisions would switch off all of a sudden, and the participant would be left in a pitch black room once again.
