CAT CULTURE Emily Faulder

Foreword Our intriguing relationship with cats is not a new phenomenon; with their magnetic personalities, swinging between playful and predatory, cats have been depicted in art and imagery as both symbols of good and bad luck since ancient times. Today, our fascination with cats continues, with social media representing a modern day outlet for our intrigue. But it is not just online that cats hold our attention, with numerous books and magazines focusing on our feline friends, and cat related locations, from cafes to sanctuaries, giving the opportunity for people and cats to interact. This project was sparked by an interest into cat culture, stemming from my own love of cats, and takes place both online and off. By exploring and photographing places where people and cats come together, we are offered a unique insight into cat’s compelling personalities, and the people who enjoy their company.
