INTRODUCTION TO ILLUSTRATION

Illustration is an effective form for linking images to text and communicating ideas, offering commentary, educating and catching the attention of an audience. In this course you will be introduced to illustration and the many roles it can play. Hands-on projects, presentations, discussions and critiques will expose you to a variety of techniques, media and styles as you explore how content, design elements and materials are used in the translation of ideas into images.

ILLUSTRATION ICONOGRAPHY

CEIL 215 S001

Deepen and broaden your illustration skills and your understanding of cultural context in this course. Learn the iconographies of the field of illustration. Understand how image strategies employ persuasion, promotion, celebration, curiosity and criticism. From ads to culturejamming, from commemoration to caricature, and from protest to propaganda, you will learn conceptual approaches to problem solving as they apply to professional practices in illustration.
