Mangotsfield Primary tops the table THE number of children achieving the Government's expected standard in reading, writing and maths at the age of 11 is increasing, according to the latest league tables. Mangotsfield C of E Primary School had the highest proportion of children reaching the expected standard for

Tynings – had fewer children who met the standard than the national average of 64% or the South Gloucestershire average of 63%. The performance measure shown in our table is for those who reached or exceeded the standard in all three subjects. Figures in individual subjects are generally higher, and progress measures and past results are also important when considering how well a school has done. Mangotsfield Primary pupils made the most progress in reading in the Downend area, while Blackhorse Primary pupils made most progress in writing. In maths, Frenchay Primary pupils made the most progress between the ages of seven and 11, and the school also had the best overall progress scores for the Downend, Staple Hill and Emersons Green area. Parents need to remember that the size of a cohort can affect the figures – in a small school, one child could represent 11 per cent of the total, while children moving in and out of the school during their junior school years can also have an impact. It can also be useful to look at the progress and achievement of pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds. Across South Gloucestershire, average scores of 105 in reading, 106 in grammar, punctuation and spelling and 104 in mathematics meant the local authority ranked 89th of England’s 152 authorities.
