CLASSES’ ARE SET TO TAKE OFF

on July 27th and we are in transition now with plans in hand waiting for clearance. Brief descriptions of what will take place before take-off: • Enrollment – students will be registered into their courses 60 days before term begins. Registration will close 31 days before term begins. • Billing – ERCI will send invoices 30 days prior to the start date. • Add/Drop period ends on the 5th day after term begins. Any add/drop requests after this period will be considered late and incur an administrative fee.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DROP AND A WITHDRAWAL • An academic DROP from course occurs during the add/drop period and will have no academic consequences. The course will show on your registration history as dropped but not appear on your transcripts.

PREPARING FOR THE JULY TERM: Complete your English Placement Exam Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University requires that all new students take an English placement exam. The purpose of the exam is to ensure the students are placed in English courses in which they can be successful and to prepare them for subsequent courses.

• An academic WITHDRAWAL from a course occurs when you remove yourself from a course after the add/drop period has passed. There will be administrative charges for this withdrawal based on the refund schedule. You will receive the grade of “W” for the course, which will appear on any unofficial or official transcripts. A grade of “W” will not impact your GPA, but does not count as completed credit toward your degree.

• The exam is timed at 90 minutes

Students need to be aware of procedures and policies relevant to the program, and to seek advice when in doubt. We are always available to chat about academic policy regardless of the questions that you may have.

It is important that the exam be completed or the student will not be allowed to enroll in the July term. Refer to the English Placement Exam email that was recently sent to you for more information.

Regards, Dhushaanthini

Regards, Laura

Incoming July 2015 students will be automatically enrolled in the English Placement exam: • The exam must be taken by June 22 • Once the exam is started, it must be completed and submitted. Do not log out and expect to return to the exam at another time

STUDENT JASON LESLIE GAINS

GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE FROM STUDY ABROAD IN UNITED STATES

viation Business major Jason Leslie traveled to Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach (Florida) Campus in the spring to be adventurous and to meet new people. He also took advantage of the opportunity to study next to a flight line. “I was always interested in being a pilot and am fascinated by planes,” he said. While Jason’s career goals have changed over time, he still looks forward to working in an aviation/airport environment like the one he studied in during his semester abroad in the United States.

One of the benefits of attending Embry-Riddle Asia is the opportunity to interact with fellow Embry-Riddle students at the university’s U.S. campuses in Daytona Beach or Prescott, Arizona. The 16-week study abroad experience allows students to broaden their worldview by living in another culture, developing relationships with individuals with varying backgrounds and learning in new classroom environments. “Riddle gave me the opportunity to come here,” he said during an interview while in Daytona Beach. “Here, I’m studying next to a runway.” During his semester in Daytona Beach, Jason took classes in airline management, production and operations management, project management and international business. He quickly noticed differences in the coursework due to the longer 16-week semester – opposed to the eight-week terms he’s accustomed to in Singapore. Jason also learned that American students are highly engaged in active classroom discussion – which encouraged him to do the same.

Jason also learned that American students are highly engaged in active classroom discussion – which encouraged him to do the same. Outside of class, Jason took advantage of his stay at a residential campus by participating in extracurricular activities like football. His fondness of the Chelsea Football Club in the English Premier League led to a friendship with a fellow Chelsea fan from Malaysia. Throughout his time in Daytona Beach, Jason discovered that students from different countries can still share many similarities.

All in all, Jason enjoyed his first visit to the United States – as both a student and tourist. He encourages other Embry-Riddle Asia students to take advantage of the study abroad opportunity to complement their studies in Singapore. “Just be open about it. Everyone has different experiences,” he said. “It’s just an opportunity you should take.”

“Singapore is not so different than other parts of the world,” he said. While in Florida, Jason enjoyed the warm weather, a flight with a student pilot and American food like burgers, bacon and biscuits and gravy. However, he did miss Singapore’s spicy food.
