Programme Features • The only EXECUTIVE Master of Arts programme in arts/cultural management in Hong Kong;

• Specially designed for in-service arts/cultural managers from Hong Kong and the region who have minimum five years of managerial experience; • Partnership with Goldsmiths, University of London, providing two courses related to “Creative Entrepreneurship”; • Two-year part-time study through intensive teaching modules and blended learning to suit busy arts/cultural managers; each year only meet for two intensive periods each lasting ten days;

Professor Samuel LEONG PhD Programme Leader of EMA(AME) Associate Dean (Quality Assurance and Enhancement) of Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Head of Department of Cultural and Creative Arts Director of UNESCO Observatory for Research in Local Cultures and Creativity in Education The Hong Kong Institute of Education Demand for ar ts and cultural management training has increased significantly in the recent decade. With the exciting development of the West Kowloon Cultural District and Hong Kong’s vision to be an international cultural hub, Hong Kong is in a unique position to become a regional centre for arts management training and related professional development. Our response to current industry needs as well as contribution to Hong Kong’s future is the development of a new two-year part-time Executive Master of Arts in Arts Management and Entrepreneurship (EMA[AME]) programme – the first and ONLY Executive Master of Arts Programme in Hong Kong. The programme was launched successfully in 2013, and addresses the special challenges confronting today’s leaders and managers of arts and cultural enterprises in Hong Kong and the region, including issues of globalization, entrepreneurship and audience engagement. It aims to deepen and strengthen students’ professional knowledge and insight pertaining to the vital aspects of ar ts administration,

management and entrepreneurship. As the only academic department in Hong Kong focusing on Cultural and Creative Arts in education, the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts has partnered with Goldsmiths, University of London, one of the pioneers in pursuing training and research relating to entrepreneurship in arts and cultural organizations. The Guardian University Guide recently placed Goldsmiths in the world's top 100, and the UK's top 20, universities for the arts and humanities. Goldsmiths is best known for courses and research relating to creativity and culture, and has a reputation for producing well-known artists. To ensure that students get the most updated and practical knowledge, the programme is taught by an international academic team from Hong Kong, Britain, USA and Taiwan. I would like to thank all the stakeholders for their staunch support for the successful offering of this EMA(AME) programme. About

The Hong Kong Institute of Education

The Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd) is one of the eight University Grants Committee (UGC)funded institutions in Hong Kong. It was granted “Self-Accrediting� status in 2004 by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAQA), and is the largest provider of teacher education in Hong Kong, with its main campus at Tai Po, and satellite campus at Tseung Kwan O. The HKIEd has 3 faculties (Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Education and Human Development and Faculty of Humanities), a Graduate School and 17 departments offering multidisciplinary programmes from certificate to doctoral level. Over 1,000 students are serviced by more than 400 academic and teaching staff, of which 90% hold earned doctorates.

The HKIEd has the only academic department focusing on cultural and creative arts education in Hong Kong. The Department of Cultural and Creative Arts (CCA) (http://www.ied.edu.hk/cca) aims to nurture skilled, knowledgeable and caring students who specialize in musical arts, visual arts or interdisciplinary arts, empowering them to achieve academic and artistic excellence in transformative roles as innovative educators, enterprising arts practitioners, creative thinkers and cultural leaders in the 21st century. In 2012, The Department of CCA launched the Arts Promotion Enhancement Project (APEP) (http:// www.ied.edu.hk/apep) to enhance promotion and management of the arts in Hong Kong by empowering arts management professionals through research, professional training as well as provision of learning and professional exchange platforms. A number of training activities and research have been undertaken.

Although we have only completed our first semester, I've found that this EMA programme has already opened many doors. The emphasis on teamwork and networking allows for thought-provoking exchanges. The fact that the course is taught by industry professionals provides invaluable insight into the future of arts in Hong Kong.

Professor TSENG Sun-man Co-Programme Leader of EMA(AME) Adjunct Professor of Department of Cultural and Creative Arts Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences The Hong Kong Institute of Education It gives me great pleasure to work together with Prof. Samuel Leong and Mr. Gerald Lidstone in putting together this programme in order to address the unique training needs of experienced arts/cultural managers. I have been privileged to have taught arts management for more than two decades in Hong Kong and Mainland China, with several hundred of my ex-students now serving as cultural managers in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore and Mainland China. The key guiding principles for this new programme have been: a. optimizing the remarkable synergy of having experienced cultural managers from different cities learning together; b. using the case study approach to examine latest trends in arts engagement and dissemination, cultural policy, cultural management practices etc.; c. requiring students to integrate theories with their actual working experience though self-reflection and metacognition; and d. placing significant emphasis on sustainable modes of operation of cultural enterprises in the curriculum. Due to their heavy workload, many cultural managers opt to learn through short courses and workshops. Whilst short-term professional training programmes and overseas internships may enhance professional knowledge and international outlook quickly, they usually have limited impact on the critical and analytical skills of the participants. Only a well-structured award-bearing academic programme can give students a holistic perspective of arts/cultural management and improve his/her critical, analytical and metacognition skills. An analogy would be to offer someone fish to stop him from starving, but the objective should be to turn him/her into a fisherman over time. My deep gratitude to all my co-workers in the HKIEd, Goldsmiths, strategic partners, guest teachers, ex-students and friends for your unfailing support, without which this programme would not have existed.

Nurture

Local and Regional Second-tier Cultural Leaders With the rapid development of cultural industries and building of numerous cultural facilities in Hong Kong and the region, high-level management expertise and insights on how to improve cultural software are specially needed. Demand for quality arts/cultural management training programmes which cater to the special needs of Hong Kong and the region is unprecedented. Against this background the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region recently earmarked special funding to strengthen arts management training and Hong Kong is poised to become a regional centre for arts management training and professional development. The successful presentation of the annual Cultural Leadership Summit in Hong Kong in the last few years is a milestone.

It is a pity that none of the existing post-graduate award-bearing arts management programmes in Hong Kong (and few in the region) is targeted at experienced in-service arts managers. The EMA(AME) programme is thus specially designed to cater for the needs of experienced in-service arts/ cultural managers from Hong Kong and the region. Building on the prior management experiences of participants, the programme aims to integrate theories and practices of arts management, arts education and entrepreneurship. Through a student-centered learning and self-reflection a p p r o a c h , s t u d e n t s a r e g u i d e d t o m a k e substantial advancement on their professional outlook and personal development. It is believed that graduates of this programme will be well equipped to become second-tier cultural leaders in Hong Kong and the region.

Strategic Partners Integration of the programme with the industry is extremely important. A number of industry partners (from Hong Kong and the region) will be featured each year to provide the programme with latest case studies and research opportunities. Senior management from industry partners will share their insights as guest speakers.

The Institute of Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship (ICCE) at Goldsmiths , University of London is delighted to be developing a collaboration with the HKIEd to contribute to the new Executive Master of Arts in Arts Management and Entrepreneurship. ICCE takes the broader view that Entrepreneurship is the creation of value, this value could be social, aesthetic or financial, and that when entrepreneurial activity is strong the three strands are interwoven.

ICCE courses nurture the skills and attitudes of students to allow them to become innovators and to provide models of entrepreneurial/ business support relevant and useful for creative entrepreneurs. They will provide a link between the theoretical aspects of the broader overview of sectors and their specific practices and work to focus on how creativity can be strengthened when put through creative commercialization modelling techniques.

ICCE has created education for people who are developing businesses around a creative practice or area of expertise. Also education and training for policy makers who want to understand how to create the infrastructure needed to support an environment of creative entrepreneurship. A strong feature of the teaching is engagement which enables students to work with industry partners to develop and explore new enterprises and create new networks within the sector.

The area of leadership will also be developed through modules from theor y to practice, particularly looking at where leadership and entrepreneurship come together. At the same time we look at the policies needed by countries, regions and cities to develop the infrastructure to maintain healthy creative and cultural industries.

Programme Aim Our aim is to nurture experienced arts/cultural managers to be informed by an international outlook and to acquire the knowledge, skills, understanding and commitment to make arts and cultural enterprises more relevant to contemporary society.

Learning Outcomes On successful completion of the programme, participants will be able to: a. explain the different forces in the arts/cultural ecology and ways to effect change, including advocacy; b. master the major aspects of arts management including strategic management, programming (including learning and participation programmes), human resources management, financial management, marketing, audience building, law and contracts, fundraising, crisis management and audience development; c. develop advanced knowledge and understanding of the value chain in the arts and cultural industries, risk management and entrepreneurship which enable them to develop sustainable modes of operation for arts and cultural enterprises;

d. acquire a personalized professional toolkit that enables them to plan programmes for the arts and culture with an appropriate balance between the optimization of the artistic, educational, economic and social impact of different arts activities; e. demonstrate the social-cultural, political, economic and educational aspects of audience engagement; and f. develop insights on education and learning which will enable them to optimize the ar tis tic and educational im pacts of arts/cultural events as well as to groom their working teams into acquiring the characteristics of “learning organizations�.

Strategic arts management course such as the EMA (AME) offered by the HKIEd is most wanted in today's fast changing pace arts and culture industry. Christy LEE Programme Manager Chung Ying Theatre Company (HK) Limited (EMA Participant) After working in the field for many years, I have been looking for an ideal master programme in arts management. Though this EMA programme is new and started recruiting its first class last year, I applied without hesitation after reading its idea and modules. The first semester, an intensive teaching period in February following by an e-learning period, is soon to be completed, I am satisfied and found it a valuable opportunity to learn from a professional teaching team and the synergy of the whole class. Pedagogy The EMA(AME) programme is individual and career focused, built around real-world practices and experiences that connect with studies undertaken in the programme. Participants learning are to be applied into their professional work through experimenting, challenging and critically reflecting on applications of new knowledge and skills that could make a difference. The delivery methods cater specially to the professional working background of the participants as experienced managers. This programme strives to introduce a structured and disciplined approach to learning through metacognition, creative thinking and forward planning. The self-reflection and planning process will be guided by a personal tutor assigned to each participant. Graduates of the programme should become strong role models willing to be critical, reflective, creative and engaged with personal and organisational change. Around the world arts organizations are venturing into new and diverse arts engagement activities(under different labels as arts education, outreach, learning and exploration, arts-in-education, audience development, etc). The purpose is the same: “striving to make the arts more relevant to contemporary society”. The integration of educational elements in the EMA(AME) programme will equip arts managers with the insight and skills in monitoring and evaluating arts engagement programmes. Their commitment to learning and education will be instrumental in transforming their own organizations into sustainable “learning institutions” .

For those who already have years of working experience in arts administration like me may sometimes have a feeling of working in an ivory tower. My personal experience of taking a master course in arts management is that it helps rectify my mission and vision as a responsible arts administrator and inspires me other new ways of thinking. I am glad to see Professor Tseng makes a dream master programme come true. With Professor's well-thought planning, this programme not only can help put theories into action, but also provide a precious platform for arts practitioners from different places to share among themselves their valuable experience, an indispensable learning process which can definitely broaden your horizons and should not be missed. Overseas Study Trip A five-day study trip (Case Study in Arts Management and Cultural Contexts) to a spotlight city chosen by the course leader in the Asia-Pacific region (such as Singapore, Beijing, Melbourne, Seoul and Taipei, etc.) will be arranged. It comprises of visits to a range of key arts and cultural institutions in the spotlight city, supplemented by lectures conducted before and during the trip.

Prof. Leong's professional work has been multifarious, international and interdisciplinary – spanning education and research, performance, technology, business and administration, cultural policy and the creative industry. Prof. Tseng has held a number of senior arts management positions in Hong Kong, including Executive Director of the Hong Kong Arts Festival Society and Secretary-General of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. From 2006 to 2008, he was Chair and Professor of the Arts Administration Department of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He has developed and taught many arts management programmes in Hong Kong and Mainland China, with more than two hundred of his ex-students now serving as cultural managers in Hong Kong, Macau, PRC, Taiwan and Singapore.

Prof. Tsang is a leader in the contemporary music field, having numerous commissions and performances by local and international performing groups including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, etc. He has served as President of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) and currently Honorary Member of the Asian Composers League. He also specializes in Conducting, Music Theory, International Music Promotion and Practices. His research interests include Music Instinct, Creative Musicking, General Composition and Cultural Policy. 14

Prof. Hui is Managing Director of Culture and Development Consultancy Limited and Non-executive Director of the Urban Renewal Authority. He holds Visiting and Adjunct Professorship in Mainland China and Hong Kong. Formerly he was Associate Dean of Arts and Professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Director of the Centre for Cultural Policy Research at The University of Hong Kong, Guest Scholar at the Canadian Centre for Architecture, Montreal and Research Fellow at St Edmund’s College, Cambridge. He is at present Museum Expert Advisor of the Hong Kong Government, member of the International Committee of Architectural Critics and editorial board of The Creative Industries Journal (UK) and The International Journal of Cultural and Creative Industries (Taiwan).

Dr. Zoran is a transdisciplinary artist, educator, and researcher. His work has been shown in more than 60 exhibitions and festivals worldwide, including public art projects in New York, Dublin and Hong Kong, etc. Dr. Zoran participated in Artist residencies at the School of Visual Arts (New York), Wooloo (Berlin), Pacific Northwest College of Art (Portland, OR) and Vermont Studio Center, etc. He was awarded CEC Artslink Award (New York) and VSC Artist Grant. He served as Creative Director of a publishing company and board member of a non-profit cultural organization.

Dr. Prudence Lau is founding member of the Hong Kong Chapter of DOCOMOMO (Documentation and Conservation of buildings, sites and neighbourhoods of the Modern Movement). She collaborates with professionals and local organisations with the aim of raising awareness in the arts, cultural and urban heritage of Hong Kong and Asia. She is also interested in research on twentieth century urban and cultural forms and the negotiation between local traditions and colonial agenda in Asia and Southeast Asia.

Mr. Lidstone originally worked as a theatre designer also managing and touring productions extensively in Eastern Europe and the USA before founding the postgraduate Master of Arts in Arts Administration and Cultural Policy and later the Master of Arts in Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship at Goldsmiths. He also co-created a new Master of Arts in Cultural and Creative Industries in Abu Dhabi and a Cultural Policy summer school for Boston University. For the British Council and other agencies he has taught arts management courses including Arts Marketing, Arts Education, Fundraising, Copyright and Strategic Planning in over 20 countries worldwide.

Professor Siân PRIME Deputy Director, Institute of Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship (ICCE) Goldsmiths, University of London Course Director, Master of Arts in Cultural and Creative Entrepreneurship BA (Hons) English and Related Arts CNAA , FRSA

Ms. Prime is a lecturer in creative enterprise, innovation, social enterprise, cultural policy, leadership and management. She has worked internationally for IIMB in Bangalore, GoDown in Nairobi and the East Africa region and in the UK nationally for the Arts Council England, the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA) and the Innovation Unit. She was responsible for the content and delivery of NESTA’s residential training programme for highly talented individuals and managed a national seed fund for new business models in the Creative Industries. The progressive and groundbreaking approach to learning in that area led to an open source guide for creative start-ups. With a £15million spending, over 70 new businesses were supported, launched and remain trading.

Prof. Hsia is currently a Professor at the National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), teaching creative industries management and arts marketing. His expertise lies on arts administration and management, creative industries, cultural policy studies and theatre arts. Prof. Hsia has published more than 20 books including Introduction to Cultural & Creative Industries , Management of Operational Performance of Theatres and Museums , Cultural Market and Ticketing (Co-author) , Arts Management (Co-author) and Cultural Administration (Co-author) , etc. Prof. Hsia was awarded in “Asia/Pacific Who's Who Vol. XII (Educationist)” in 2012 Asia/Pacific Who's Who Vol. XII of Rifacimento International (RI/AP-CR/2012) and in “Asian Admirable Achievers Vol. VII (Educationist)” in 2013 Asian Admirable Achievers of Rifacimento International (RI/AAA-PH/2013).

Matthew BREGMAN Vice President for Development, Brooklyn Academy of Music BA(English and General Literature) SUNY

Mr. Bregman is currently the Vice-President for Development of the Brooklyn Academy of Music(BAM). He has been a professional nonprofit fundraiser for more than 20 years, having held senior positions with EI Museo del Barrio, the New York Public Interest Research Group, The Lighthouse International and Museum of the Moving Image. He was featured as a “Fundraising Star” in Fundraising Success” magazine in February 2010. Mr. Bregman is a frequent seminar leader with the Support Center for Nonprofit Management, and has appeared on panels at Fundraising Day in New York and New Jersey Fundraising Conference. In 2010 he held a three-day Fundraising workshop at Lincoln Centre for the Performing Arts through his company “Tactical Fundraising”.

Chrissy SHARP BA Hons (2A) (Modern History) ANU Ex-General Manager, Sadler’s Wells, London

Ms. Sharp has had a long career in broadcasting and the performing arts, beginning in television documentaries for Australian national broadcaster the ABC in the 1970s. Most recently she was the inaugural Director of the Wheeler Centre for Books, Writing and Ideas in Melbourne (2009-2011). Established as the focal point of Melbourne’s designation as a UNESCO City of Literature, the Wheeler Centre presents a yearround programme of literary and ideas-related events, and is home to a range of literary organizations. Prior to establishing the Wheeler Centre she was General Manager of Sadler’s Wells in London (20042009) and a Board Director of Cheek by Jowl Theatre Company. She was previously General Manager of the Sydney Festival, Australia’s largest international arts festival, Head of Policy at national broadcaster SBS, and Executive Director of the Australian Writers’ Guild.

Dr. Tsui worked in various commercial sectors, cultural and creative organizations in both Mainland China and Hong Kong, specializing in corporate administration and management. He was the Finance and Administration Manager of the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre Llimited, Director of Administration and Administrative Officer of the Shantou University Cheung Kong School of Art and Design. Dr. Tsui is now an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Dr.Tsui’s major research areas include cultural and creative industry management studies, commercial operations best practices benchmarking cultural and creative industries.

Dr. Samson YOUNG Kar-fai Assistant Professor, School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong PhD (Music Composition) Princeton ; MPhil (Music Composition) HKU ; BA (Music, Philosophy and Gender Studies) University of Sydney

Originally trained in music composition, Dr. Young’s creative outputs now manifest in a variety of media and across disciplinary divide. In 2007, he became the recipient of the inaugural Bloomberg Emerging Artist Award with his audio-visual project The Happiest Hour. Other honors include an honorary mention at the digital music and sound art category of Prix Ars Electronica; a Jury Selection award at the 15th Japan Media Art Festival; and the New York Society for New Music Brian M. Israel Prize. Dr. Young received a PhD in composition at Princeton University under the supervision of computer music pioneer Paul Lansky. In 2007, he founded the experimental sound advocacy organization Contemporary Musiking. He was Hong Kong Sinfonietta’s Artist Associate in the 2008 – 2009 concert season.

Lynn YAU Foon-chi Chief Executive Officer (Planning and Arts Learning) The Absolutely Fabulous Theatre Connection (AFTEC) MEd (Distinction) (Curriculum Studies) HKU ; BA (English and Comparative Literature) HKU ;

Under the leadership of Ms Yau, AFTEC has grown into a well-known bilingual through-train theatre with teaching and learning platforms for primary schoolers to undergraduate and educators. She conceptualises and curates cross-arts learning including ground-breaking programmes such as the Diploma in Integrated Arts, Certificate in Arts Criticism, Sm-ART Youth Project, Bravo! HK Youth Theatre Awards and the HKU Medical Humanities Performance Arts Workshops. Ms Yau is currently an Advisor to RTHK, Advisor in Arts Criticism/Examiner in Literary Arts and Drama for the HK Arts Development Council and the Advisor to the HK International Young Readers Festival. She was the Hong Kong Scholar to the Clore Leadership Programme 2010-2011 supported by the Home Affairs Department.

Blended Learning Blended learning is an integral teaching appraoch of the programme that blends face-to-face instruction with a variety of technology-mediated delivery. Two intensive 10-day teaching periods will be scheduled each year in February and August. In between the teaching modules, blended learning will be conducted through e-platforms. A significant part of the participants’ assessment, both individual and group-based, will be conducted through e-platforms. Blended learning in this programme typically include studying materials provided through the internet, submission of assignments, discussion of group projects and commenting on the work of peers. This will enable participants to focus on classroom learning, face-to-face discussions and visits during the intensive teaching periods. Participants’ learning process can continue throughout the two years (with short breaks) without bounded by the teaching periods.

Medium of Instruction The programme will be conducted in English.

Venue and Class Schedule Classes are held primarily at the HKIEd Tai Po Campus, with occasion at Town Centre, and/ or satellite study centres at urban locations as decided by the Institute. Participants will normally attend classes whole day during the intensive teaching periods.

Admission and Application Admission Requirements Applicants should: • Have a bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in an arts discipline or a bachelor's degree, or equivalent, with evidence of active engagement in arts and cultural activities; and • Have a minimum of five years of managerial experience; and • Be currently working in the cultural, creative and related industries. Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained from an institution in a non-English speaking system should normally fulfil one of the following minimum English proficiency requirements: • IELTS 6.0; or • Grade C or above in GCSE / GCE OL English; or • a TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based test) or 80 (internet-based test) or 213 (computer-based test); or • Band 6 in the Chinese Mainland’s College English Test (CET) (a total score of no lower than 430 if the test was taken after June 2005); or • Other equivalent qualifications. Applicants may be invited for admission interview in person or by phone.
