Simon Pierre suivait Jésus, et lorsqu’il entra dans le palais du grand prêtre, une servante lui dit: « N’es-tu pas, toi aussi, l’un des disciples de cet homme ? » Il dit : « je n’en suis pas ». Le grand prêtre interrogea Jésus sur ses disciples, et sur sa doctrine. Jésus lui répondit: « C’est au grand jour que j’ai parlé au monde, et je n’ai rien dit en secret. Pourquoi m’interroges-tu ? » à ces mots, l’un des gardes donna une giffle à Jésus, en disant : « C’est ainsi que tu réponds au grand prêtre ! » Jésus répondit: « Si j’ai mal parlé, témoigne de ce qui est mal. Mais si j’ai bien parlé, pourquoi me frappes-tu ? ».

Simon Peter, however, followed Jesus, and when he came to the high priest’s palace, a servant girl spoke to him: “Are you not one of this man’s disciples?” He answered: “I am not”. The high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching. Jesus answered: “I have spoken publicly before all who would listen. I have concealed nothiing. Why do you question me?” A servant struck Jesus on the face and said: “Should you answer the High Priest thusly?” Jesus replied: “If I have spoken wrongly, then bring proof; but if I have spoken truly, why do you strike me?”
