Ellen Cecelia Hynes Theology Faculty Endowed Scholarship The Ellen Cecelia Hynes Theology Faculty Endowed Scholarship was established by Ellen, Class of 2003, in grateful appreciation of the four dedicated master of arts in applied theology (MAAT) professors with whom she was privileged to study: Sister Eleanor Dooley, Father Mark Stelzer, Father Warren Savage, and Dr. Martin Pion. Ellen’s journey at Elms College began in the fall of 1997 when she was interviewed by Dr. Pion. She was very impressed when he told her of the many accomplishments of Elms College Theology students. He told her of one MAAT graduate who became a missionary and another who was teaching religious education at a local high school. Education was a field that interested Ellen and was one of the reasons she wished to pursue a master degree in applied theology. Ellen’s most cherished gift in 1997 was a letter that she received just before Christmas informing her that she had been accepted into the master of arts in applied theology program at Elms College. Ellen is exceedingly grateful that she had the opportunity to study with the four theology professors. From whom she learned: • that Father Mark has the gift of taking the smallest talent that a student might have and turning it into something beautiful. • from Father Warren, about the concept of Communio. “Communio” Father Warren would say. “It’s in you.” • about Business Ethics from Dr. Martin Pion. • Ecclesiastical Latin from Sister Eleanor. The Ellen Cecelia Hynes Theology Faculty Endowed Scholarship is to be awarded to a graduate student in the master of arts in applied theology program or an undergraduate student majoring in communication sciences and disorders; education; or business.
