Oxford Lasers enlarge on micromachining capabilities Oxford Lasers have recently delivered a number of Alpha table-top laser micromachining systems to academic and industrial customers around the globe. These pictures show the precision machining capabilities of Alpha at the microscopic level. The picture to the left shows the results of high speed percussion drilling of a 35 micron thick tungsten sheet at a rate of 175 holes per second! The picture on the right shows a 140 micron wide slot milled into a tungsten target. Alpha is an extremely capable and compact micromachining system for metals, ceramics or polymers. It offers many features found only in larger systems, making it suitable for R&D and small scale production of parts up to 8 inches in diameter.
