The Mind Centre 2020
The Mind Centre is located in central Manchester, within walking distance of 72,000 students. The Mind Centre is designed to help students (and the general public) access therapy sessions in a calm and causal environment, and to help change attitudes around using therapy services. Many students said in surveys that they did not access mental health support when they needed it because they didn’t believe the issues they were facing were serious enough to ask for help. The Mind Centre is designed to provide a space where you can talk to a therapist in a way that suits you; over a coffee in the cafe, in private therapy rooms or the group space.

herit armchair
mid-century style gives this chair a comfortable, minimal feel. It falls at the inbetween of a wooden chair and an armchair, making it good for smaller therapy offices.
&Tradition flowerpot pendant
this pendant light was chosen due to its modern feel. it will be visible from the street, creating an interesting window display.
Section A shows the cafe and reception deskon the ground floor, as well as the group therapy room. On the first floor, it shows the seating area and an private therapy room.
arbour sofa
This sofa is a natural timber and linen, and feels downto-earth in its style. It’s multiple sizes and cushion covers make it both a comfortable and practical choice for a therapy centre.
1) sensitive the space needed to feel sensitive, not overbearingly bright or graphic. Light walls, warm colours a focus on natural light helped to achieve this.
2) comforting as well as the private therapy rooms, there are comforting private spaces such as the decompression area and the group therapy room. The open spaces and curved walls allow for a comforting feel.
3) supportive this image represents supportiveness, as each piece in this geometric timber puzzle holds eachother up to create a shelter. this image inspired the group therapy room’s wooden cladding and the timber grid roof on the 2nd floor.
betty chair by &Tradition this light and stackable chair was chosen for the public downstairs spaces for it’s ability to be easily moved and rearranged to suit the needs of the space.

McQueen Project
The concept for this space is to allow the public to interact with the delicate paper sculptures, decaying them in real time.
The space will show the impact of communal action and destruction, as well as creating a storefront and archive space for McQueen.
