SALUTING MELEAH FISHER!

“Be someone’s sunshine when their skies are grey!” Meleah Fisher has been the band director at Herbert Hoover High School since 2000. She is far too aware that this time of year kicks off with band camp and marching practice in the soaring July/August temperatures. Most of us try to avoid this weather, but when Fisher heard the band students at Capital High School were suddenly without a director, she knew what she wanted to do. She volunteered her time and energy double time to help the Herbert Hoover High band every morning and the Capital High band every evening as they prepared for football/marching season. Capital High School hired a new director, Chris Shew from Parkersburg South, one week later, and Fisher was relieved of her double duty, but she said there will always be a special bond even though these two bands are rivals at the annual Charleston Daily Mail Band and Majorette Festival. “I told Capital’s kids I hope whoever is their new director loves them as much as I love my kids,” said Fisher.
