EQUIPMENT

EQUIPMENT NEWS Little Wonder at Blenheim Palace Cast an eye on a sunny day across the Capability Brown landscape at Blenheim Palace and the sun reflects off the famous lake amid the rolling slopes of grassland. Faced with the need to clear areas of weeds and vegetation between the trees, as well as scrub and Hawthorne around the park, Blenheim forester Robert Burgess contacted local dealers Turney Groundforce at Weston-on-the Green to talk about a solution. Robert and his forestry assistants, part of the Blenheim’s eight strong Rural Department team, had ruled out spraying as not environmentally friendly and not possible of course on windy days. What was especially

liked about the Little Wonder was the fact you could get very close to the trees without causing any damage, as well as the benefit of hydrostatic drive, making it highly manoeuvrable and dramatically reducing the physical effort of taking down tough scrub. The Turney Group has been

supplying Blenheim Palace with everything from mowing equipment to brushcutters and power blowers over the past 25 years. Mike Leach, their Area Sales Manager, handed over the new Little Wonder Brushcutter in mid-April to Robert Burgess. www.littlewonder.uk.com

Has John Deere found their oldest customer? You’re never too old to drive a John Deere lawn tractor. That’s certainly the case for Killarney resident Michael

J O’Connor, who has taken delivery of a new X135R ride-on lawn mower from local John Deere dealership, Seamus Weldon. Michael turned 100 last October. The X135R is only Michael’s second ride-on mower. His previous model was also a John Deere, which he bought from Weldons in May 2005 when his

family suggested that it was time to get someone in to mow the lawns for him. “No way”, was Michael’s response to that idea, although he did decide to replace his 12-year old John Deere 14SB walk-behind with a ride-on. With three separate lawns in a garden that’s around half an acre, cutting the grass with a walk-behind mower had become a considerable task, even for someone who’s been gardening for well over 60 years and regarded mowing the lawn as much better exercise than taking up golf. www.JohnDeere.co.uk
