Janine Pattison and Denise Wright When and how did you first get into the garden design industry?
Janine Pattison and Denise Wright are the successful duo behind Janine Pattison Studios, Lead Consultant and Managing Director respectively. Janine and Denise talked to us about their multi awardwinning practice, including their staff and the technology they use, and their opinions on important industry debates

JP: I’ve been fascinated by landscape since I was a child, and as soon as I finished A Levels, I started studying horticulture and sustainability. By nature, I’m a highly inquisitive and spirited sort, and knew regular employment wasn’t for me. I am never happier than in the garden, with my hands in the soil, growing things. Denise and I always wanted to work together. We have a pretty unique set of skills together, so we just decided to do our own thing back in 2001. And we haven’t stopped since! DW: In the early years I supported the business financially, working as the Art Editor for Amateur Gardening Magazine. I was able to put a lot of creative and business infrastructure in place during
this time, while Janine focused on building a client base. I joined full time seven years ago and became Managing Director last year. Now I focus on driving the company forward creatively and strategically, with help from my fantastic Senior Designer, Mazen Beidas and the rest of the team. What training did you undertake?
JP: I trained with English Heritage at Eltham Palace in London and at Kingston Maurward College in Dorchester, and later at Sparsholt. I’m a qualified RHS horticulturist and have various qualifications in other aspects of our business, such as tree care and sustainability.
