Life Lesson Charles Stanley

Rain The Early

“He will give the rain for your land in its season, the early and late rain.” Throughout Israel’s history, its success or failure hinged on two short rainy seasons. The early rains, which occurred in the fall, would soften the ground for planting and nourish the seeds. The late rains replenished the crops before the heat of summer. Everything depended on the precipitation— if all went well, there would be plenty of crops. If it did not, there would be famine and devastation. Our God provides for those who love Him and who obey His commandments. In today’s uncertain world, it’s good to be in the hands of our loving God, who knows what we need before we even ask Him for it.”

Deuteronomy 11: 14

The History of Pentecost Sunday

The Acts of the Apostles recounts the story of the original Pentecost Sunday (Acts 2). Jews “from every nation under heaven” (Acts 2:5) were gathered in Jerusalem to celebrate the Jewish feast of Pentecost. On that Sunday, ten days after the Ascension of Our Lord, the Apostles and the Blessed Mother Mary of Jesus Christ were gathered in the Upper Room, where they had seen Christ after His Resurrection: And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. [ Acts 2:2-4] Christ had promised His Apostles that He would send His Holy Spirit, and, on Pentecost, they were granted the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The Apostles began to preach the Gospel in all of the languages that the Jews who were gathered there spoke, and about 3,000 people were converted and baptized that day.1

Faith! Rewarded

because of

Written by Teesha Walker

Walking by faith and not by sight can sometimes seem like the most impossible act to complete. However, let me encourage you with a recent reward for taking a step based solely on faith. Not too long ago I was working for a company that was rather laid back. My commute was ten minutes and the atmosphere on the job was void of stress and drama. I was almost in love with this place of employment. Eventually, God started to show me warning signs that my time in this place was coming to an end. The staff began to hear the mumblings of the company losing money. Vendors started calling complaining about not being paid and the board members were having many unscheduled meetings. Taking heed to the warnings I began to search for another place of employment. The only call I received was from an agency with the offer for a contract position that would only last a year. I accepted the offer whispering a prayer that God would bless the assignment.

Within three months of starting the assignment two very significant events occurred: 1) my previous place of employment filed for bankruptcy and closed their doors; 2) my one-year assignment morphed into a permanent job with a Fortune 500 company. Often, I thank God for both the warning signs and the extension of what should have been a year assignment. On the other hand, I also understand that if I had not taken heed I could have possibly been unemployed and stressed about paying my bills. I also recognized that if I had passed on the opportunity to accept a job just because it was a contract position I would have forfeited an opportunity of greatness for me. Maybe your situation is not job seeking. Could it be a relationship that you are afraid to walk away from? Are you purposely ignoring the warning signs that God is showing you? Your first step may look like temporary placement but believe by faith and take the step anyway. Free yourself from unnecessary stress!

Christ Hi Death 6 Things

Accompli

hed by

April 22, 2011 by mattperman

Here’s a very brief summary of the six core things Christ accomplished in his death. 1. Expiation Expiation means the removal of our sin and guilt. Christ’s death removes — expiates — our sin and guilt. The guilt of our sin was taken away from us and placed on Christ, who discharged it by his death. Thus, in John 1:29, John the Baptist calls Jesus “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” Jesus takes away, that is, expiates, our sins. Likewise, Isaiah 53:6 says, “The Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on him,” and Hebrews 9:26 says “He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.” 2. Propitiation Whereas expiation refers to the removal of our sins, propitiation refers to the removal of God’s wrath. By dying in our place for our sins, Christ removed the wrath of God that we justly deserved. In fact, it goes even further: a propitiation is not simply a sacrifice that removes wrath, but a sacrifice that removes wrath and turns it into favor. (Note: a propitiation does not turn wrath into love — God already loved us fully, which is the reason he sent Christ to die; it turns his wrath into favor so that his love may realize its purpose of doing good to us every day, in all things, forever, without sacrificing his justice and holiness.) Several passages speak of Christ’s death as a propitiation for our sins. Romans 3:25-26 says that God “displayed [Christ] publicly as a propitiation in his blood through faith. This was to demonstrate his righteousness, because in the forbearance of God he passed over the sins previously committed; for the demonstration of his righteousness at the present time, that he might be just and the justifier of him who has faith in Jesus.” Likewise, Hebrews 2:17 says that Christ made “propitiation for the sins of the people” and 1 John 4:10 says “in this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

3. Reconciliation Whereas expiation refers to the removal of our sins, and propitiation refers to the removal of God’s wrath, reconciliation refers to the removal of our alienation from God. Because of our sins, we were alienated — separated — from God. Christ’s death removed this alienation and thus reconciled us to God. We see this, for example, in Romans 5:10-11: “For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.” 4. Redemption Our sins had put us in captivity from which we need to be delivered. The price that is paid to deliver someone from captivity is called a “ransom.” To say that Christ’s death accomplished redemption for us means that it accomplished deliverance from our captivity through the payment of a price. There are three things we had to be released from: the curse of the law, the guilt of sin, and the power of sin. Christ redeemed us from each of these. • Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law: “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us” (Galatians 3:13-14). • Christ redeemed us from the guilt of our sin. We are “justified as a gift by his grace, through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus” (Romans 3:24). • Christ redeemed us from the power of sin: “knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your fathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ” (1 Peter 1:18-19). Note that we are not simply redeemed from the guilt of sin; to be redeemed from the power of sin means that our slavery to sin is broken. We are now free to live to righteousness. Our redemption from the power of sin is thus the basis of our ability to live holy lives: “You have been bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your bodies” (1 Corinthians 6:20). 5. Defeat of the Powers of Darkness Christ’s death was a defeat of the power of Satan. “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put

them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him” (Colossians 3:15). Satan’s only weapon that can ultimately hurt people is unforgiven sin. Christ took this weapon away from him for all who would believe, defeating him and all the powers of darkness in his death by, as the verse right before this says, “having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross” (Colossians 2:13-14). 6. And he Did All of This By Dying As Our Substitute The reality of substitution is at the heart of the atonement. Christ accomplished all of the above benefits for us by dying in our place — that is, by dying instead of us. We deserved to die, and he took our sin upon him and paid the penalty himself. This is what it means that Christ died for us (Romans 5:8) and gave himself for us (Galatians 2:20). As Isaiah says, “he was pierced through for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities . . . the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on him” (Isaiah 53:5-6). You see the reality of substitution underlying all of the benefits discussed above, as the means by which Christ accomplished them. For example, substitution is the means by which we were ransomed: “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28). Christ’s death was a ransom for us — that is, instead of us. Likewise, Paul writes that “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us” (Galatians 3:13). Substitution is the means by which we were reconciled: “For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, in order that he might bring us to God” (1 Peter 3:18). It is the means of expiation: “He made him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in him” (2 Corinthians 5:21) and “He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness” (1 Peter 2:24). And by dying in our place, taking the penalty for our sins upon himself, Christ’s death is also the means of propitiation.

\\SALVATION//

A SINNER’S PRAYER Romans 10: 9,10

You Can Receive Jesus Christ Right Now by Faith - Through Prayer:

Dear God in heaven, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I acknowledge to You that I am a sinner, and I am sorry for my sins and the life that I have lived; I need your forgiveness. I believe that your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ shed His precious blood on the cross at Calvary and died for my sins, and I am now willing to turn from my sin. You said in Your Holy Word, Romans 10:9 that if we confess the Lord our God and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, we shall be saved. Right now I confess Jesus as the Lord of my soul. With my heart, I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. This very moment I accept Jesus Christ as my own personal Savior and according to His Word, right now I am saved. Thank you Jesus, for your unlimited grace which has saved me from my sins. I thank you Jesus that your grace never leads to license, but rather it always leads to repentance. Therefore Lord Jesus, transform my life so that I may bring glory and honor to you alone and not to myself. Thank you Jesus for dying for me and giving me eternal life! Amen. Can you think of anything more wonderful that could happen to you than receiving Christ? “As soon as you can find a Bible believing and Bible teaching Church so that you can begin to hear and study the Word of God. Remember, Faith comes by hearing the Word of God.” Paul D. Landrew Put Your Trust In God... Not Man!

What The Bible Says About Our Greatest Salvation “Christ took our punishment and died in our place. Since our attempts at righteousness will not satisfy God, Christ clothed us in His righteousness in such away that when God, the Father, looks upon us, He does not see our sin; He sees only the righteousness of His Son, Jesus Christ.” L. Moyer Hebrews 2:1-4 -What has been the greatest moment of your life? For some people, the answer might be their wedding day, the birth of a child, or an important promotion. But for believers, the best experience is salvation, when their eternal destiny was changed. New Christians often have a fervor to share their faith. In time, however, many find their hearts cooling as they focus less on their relationship with Jesus Christ. Hebrews 2:1 instructs, Therefore we must give the most earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. “Salvation is God’s amazing solution to man’s sinful condition: it is His gift of rescue - through the death of Jesus- from the penalty of our transgressions.” Charles Stanley

THE BEST NEEDLE THREADING METHOD ON THE MARKET!

Project College Counseling Project College Counseling While serving as a college admissions officer at the College of Biblical Studies, I began to identify a problem among students from underserved communities: They lacked the resources and guidance need to search for their best-fit college. Underserved students lacking the resources needed to make a critical life decision bothered me, bothered because I once was a college-bound student with no leadership on how to navigate the complexities of the college choice process. I aspired to attend college to make an impact in the world. However, t had no clue of how to search for colleges that would prepare me to impact the world. To tackle this problem, I launched Project College Counseling in June of 2015. Project College Counseling is a community-based college counseling program designed to navigate families through the college admission process. The goal is to help college-bound students in under-served communities in Houston engage the college choice process to select a college that will help them thrive and develop their talent. Currently, we target families in Southeast Houston with a primary focus on Houston’s Sunnyside. I chose to start to focus on Sunnyside for two reasons: 1) I am from Sunnyside and 2) Sunnyside is an under-resourced neighborhood in Houston that doesn’t have many services available to its college-bound residents. Many of Sunnyside residents possess tremendous potential but lack the guidance to help them showcase it to the right colleges. This brings me to the other purpose of Project College Counseling: To help college-bound students from underserved communities develop their talent through community involvement and civic engagement. These students not only lack the guidance needed to know their options but also require the necessary direction to compete in the college admissions process by developing their strengths and showcasing their talent to the right colleges. We are committed to navigating the most vulnerable families through the college admission process and helping students with untapped potential develop their talents and present their value to the right colleges. HEALTH Written by Teesha Walker

As Christians, we are charged with taking care of our temples. Majority of us falter because we choose not to deny certain foods or we ignore limitations. This often leads to chronic diseases; namely Type 2 Diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes that occurs when our body’s blood glucose is too high. Blood glucose is our main source of energy and comes mainly from the food we consume. With type 2 diabetes, insulin, which is a hormone made in the pancreas has difficulty reaching our cells. Diabetes is more common in people of African American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian American and American Indian descent. Diabetes is considered a chronic illness because it can potentially cause long-lasting effects over time. There are 1.5 million Americans diagnosed with diabetes every year. Currently, there is no cure for diabetes but it can go into remission with significant weight loss, healthier eating choices and increased physical activity.

There are certain foods that can aid in helping a type 2 diabetic reach remission. Below are some great ideas for foods best for diabetes. Fruits: Cherries, grapefruits, apples, pears, strawberries, peaches and oranges are best because they have low glycemic indexes which decreases spikes in blood sugar. Nuts: Almonds, walnuts, cashews, peanuts and pistachios work wonders for diabetics. It’s best to choose the unsalted nuts. Beans: Black, garbanzo, kidney, lima, pinto and soy beans are great. Dried beans are a better choice than canned beans. Vegetables: Mushrooms, onions, garlic, eggplant, peppers and leafy greens are desirable. These veggies have almost nonexistent effects on blood glucose and are packed with fiber and phytochemicals. In closing, whether you have suffered with diabetes or your family is affected. There is no time like now to help transition your family into better eating habits.
