WOULD YOU LIKE TO BECOME A COMMUNITY SPEEDWATCH VOLUNTEER?

The Braunton community speedwatch team have been operating in Braunton for around 13 years. The statistics show the team have made a huge impact in helping to make our roads safer.

We have a couple of spaces available for new team members and we would like to hear from anyone who can give up an hour or two a week and would be interested in joining.

The team are a dedicated group of Police volunteers who work together to help reduce the speed of vehicles using the roads within our local community. The team members, who receive training contact each other to arrange a date and time to go to areas to monitor the traffic that has been identified by Police as a speeding hotspot.

The sites have all been risk assessed as safe for the team to operate at the location. The team use a handheld speed detection camera to monitor the traffic and anyone who is recorded as speeding have the vehicle details recorded and later entered onto a Police database.

From the data supplied letters are sent to the vehicle owners to advise them they were driving over the speed limit and advised that repeat offences can be dealt with by Police using the evidence collated by the teams at any of the sites within Devon and Cornwall.
