Il periodo ipotetico di tipo 2 indica ipotesi possibili, poco probabili o immaginarie.
What would you do if you won the lottery?

If I had a dog, I’d name it Spotty. Se avessi un cane lo chiamerei Spotty. If we were rich, we would go on a cruise. Se fossimo ricchi andremmo in crociera. I’d go out if it weren’t so late. Uscirei se non fosse così tardi. What would you save if your house were on fire? Che cosa metteresti in salvo se la tua casa andasse a fuoco? La proposizione subordinata è generalmente introdotta da if. Può seguire o precedere la principale. Nella proposizione principale si usa il condizionale presente, nella subordinata si usa il Past simple. Nella proposizione subordinata il verbo be è were / weren’t per tutte le persone. If I were older, I’d buy a motorbike. Se fossi più grande, comprerei una moto. Nella proposizione principale vi possono essere anche i modali al condizionale (could / couldn’t / might / might not). If I had more money I could buy a new computer. Se avessi più soldi potrei comperare un computer nuovo.
