OVERVIEW SITUATION Typhoon Haiyan, locally known as Yolanda, struck the Philippines on Friday, November 8th with experts, including NASA, concluding it may be the m ost powerful tropical cyclone to ever make landfall, forcing m illions to take shelter. This came just three weeks after a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the Philippines in Bohol province where a team, funded by Elim Missions, was providing aid. }

Working with Mark King of Ealing Christian Centre who served as an Elim missionary in the Philippines for m any years. Many of the infrastructures have been destroyed and many families have been left without a home. Our team travelled there on November 21st and gave out emergency packages that included rice, canned goods, water and medicines. }

NORTHERN CEBU

Food parcels that include rice, canned goods, water, medicine, temporary shelters, soaps and clothing have been giving out. These packs cost £16.00!

BANTAYAN ISLAND

Just north of Cebu we are reaching a small island that can only be reached by boat, as there are no landing strips for aircraft. There are around 650 families living on this island, most of them are fishermen, who also have lost their fishing boats along with their houses during the typhoon. } OTHER AREAS OF N EED On December 3rd, Pastor Glenn Isaguirre travalled to various areas assessing the need with the view of seeing what relief aid can be provided. Helping these areas will leave a tremendous impact on the community and the opportunity for the gospel to be shared.

ELIM RELIEF APPEAL

Philippines: Typhoon Haiyan (December 2013)

SUPPORT: Day of disaster > 6 months Provide relief packs inc. food, water, clothing and temporary shelter.

STABLISE:

6 months > 1 year Provide food, long-‐term shelter and work with local community to rebuild. Gospel outreach.

IMMEDIATE Everything Elim Missions does within the area of emergency relief is done through the local church. Partnering with missionaries we have on the ground and with partner organisations and churches ensures that help gets to those in need. In the short term, our immediate efforts are focused on providing relief aid to those in desperate need. We have had reports, from the teams who have been providing emergencey relief packs, that people are being found that have survived on coconuts alone.

SUSTAIN:

INTERMEDIATE > LONG TERM As things begin to stabilise in the Philippines the long-‐term aim is to provide housing and income generating projects for those affected. We are also planning outreach programs to evangelise these areas with the view to plant churches as a result. It will be a long time before the Philippines recovers but with your donations we are able to help.

1 year > 5 years Plant churches and meet not only the physical needs but also the spiritual needs. Working with indigenous groups gives us a unique understanding of the affected area, enabling your donation to offer applicable and efficient solutions.

THANK YOU It is our desire to be totally transparent with how your donation is spent. A s a donor supported charity, Elim Missions gets no m oney other than that given directly to us by our supporters. Without your partnership, we simply would not be able to do what we do and Elim’s impact around the world for the gospel would be significantly reduced. For every £1 you donate to our Haiyan Appeal, 85p goes directly to help those in the Philippines. The remaining 15p goes on providing the infrastruture and governance to deliver the relief project as well as the development of future project work Elim Missions is involved in within the Philippines. Thank you so m uch for partnering with us by donating to our Haiyan Appeal.
