It is a pleasure to serve as Board Chair on the Board of Trustees at The Village School of Naples. Under Dennis Chapman’s consummate leadership, TVS has become stronger than ever, with an enrollment of over 600 students and a campus booming with activity every day. As a Board, we work closely with Dennis to actively support and promote the school’s mission, vision, strategic goals, and policy positions.
A 27 year member of the North Naples Church (NNC), I watched in admiration over the years as The Village School grew from a small preschool to the school we enjoy today. How far we have come in the last four years, thanks, in large part, to the commitment of our Board members.
I agreed to join the Board because I believe strongly in education and Christian values. The Village School of Naples excels at proffering both. I am proud to be a part of the TVS/NNC partnership, where children flourish in the classroom, and where faith, respect, and good citizenship is ever-present among the faculty and student body. After all, we are educating the leaders of tomorrow.
In 2021-2022, with your support, look what was accomplished! Not only did we break ground in September on the track & field, but the construction was completed in record time!
Our students enjoyed utilizing the track for physical education classes and the track teams were ready to host competitors on their own campus for the first time ever.
TVS exists as it is today because of your generosity and the generosity of those before us. All of us, parents, trustees, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends continue to raise the bar.
Today, The Village School is known as one of the premier independent schools in southwest Florida.
On behalf of my fellow Trustees, thank you for understanding the importance of philanthropy and the role it plays at The Village School. Look around. Your gifts make a difference. We are grateful for all you do.
Most sincerely,
Theo Etzel Board Chair

It gives me great pleasure to share our 2021-2022 Gratitude Report. This publication contains contributions made between August 1, 2021 and July 31, 2022. These gifts were made by all of us: parents, grandparents, faculty & staff, trustees, grantors, and friends. We are grateful for each and every one of you, as each of us is a part of The Village School of Naples.
After a tumultuous 2020, we happily welcomed families back to campus in August of 2021, thrilled to be together again after the summer break. TVS is proud to have maintained its excellent level of safety in the classroom and throughout campus, recognizing that keeping our students learning in classrooms and not at home was of prime importance for their education, health and well-being.
As parents, our children’s happiness is our ultimate goal. At TVS, we are proud to know, nurture, and love your child and, under His guidance, we strive to ignite curiosity and the passions that each child possesses.
Thank you for sharing your children with us, entrusting them to the faculty and staff with whom they laugh and learn each day. As a community, we are committed to providing the finest Village School Experience for all students, implementing the importance and understanding of our Christ Skills as the foundation of good citizenship and Christian values.
Your support of our school is tremendous! We appreciate your participation in all areas of the school including the Village Fund, the On Track for our Future Capital Campaign, and the Gala.
We applaud our volunteers for their countless hours of dedicated assistance as leaders, committee members, room parents, and more. You have graciously given your time and talent to us, and we are grateful.
I would be remiss if I didn’t also share my gratitude for the extraordinary volunteers that are our Board of Trustees.
Comprised of current parents, alumni parents, and church members, these men and women are some the most dedicated and passionate people I know. I am grateful for their leadership and support.
Last year’s generous gifts to the Village Fund and Gala resulted in the purchase of bleachers for the track & field, additional iPads for all divisions, and collapsible risers for the Lauren Tayon Drama Studio, as well as faculty programs and other campus improvements.
Every gift makes a difference.
I invite you to peruse the 2021-2022 Gratitude Report and read first-hand the names of your fellow parents and others whose generosity of time, talent and treasure are present throughout.
How fortunate we are to live in such a warm and giving community.
With gratitude,
Dennis Chapman Head of SchoolAs a member of The Village School faculty, I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in Professional Development programs, made possible through gifts to The Village Fund. These experiences opened the door to priceless ideas and fascinating perspectives that have expanded my skill set and offered educational pathways for me to share with my enthusiastic students.
One of my most cherished experiences was attending the American Council Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Language in Washington, D.C. I participated in multiple sessions, one of the most helpful being “Project Based Language Learning.” This teaching method works successfully by incorporating engaging, driving questions, and scaffolding to align with multiple phases of units, a style we have adopted at TVS.
Reading
K-12 faculty training from NWEA in MAP testing and data analysis. K-12 Singapore Math training with Dr. Kevin Mahoney, Singapore Math Researcher.Another appealing technique was “Movie Talk,” an input tool developed by Dr. Ashley Hastings whereby students became engaged by listening to language in a short video or clip. These videos are quite compelling to students! Each video is followed by activities to support and further develop language acquisition.
For five years, I have had the privilege to do what I love and what I feel passionate about, and participating in Professional Development Programs only serves to support that passion. For faculty and staff, the advantages of continual learning, whether math, English, or the latest foreign language strategies, enables us to become wiser in the classroom, better able to engage students in an environment that empowers, excites, and inspires.
Workshops led by the Florida Council of Independent Schools for the entire faculty.
Intensive training from Newline on maximizing the use of our classroom touchscreens and smart boards.
Every parent is a member of the Village School Parent Association (VSPA - pronounced “Vespa”). VSPA meetings are a great way to get to know members of our TVS community!
The VSPA exists solely to support, promote, and strengthen the school community. We are fortunate that so many parents take an active role in their student’s education, as ongoing research has proven that family engagement in schools improves student achievement and social skills.
Thank you to all our parent and grandparent volunteers…we are lucky to have you!
As they say, “It takes a village,” and nothing could be more true about the amazing things our VSPA volunteers accomplished in 2021-2022.
From chairing events, serving as a room parent, or volunteering at one of our events, no contribution was too small. Without the support of these volunteers, events such as the Daddy-Daughter Dance, MommySon “Amazing Race”, Trunk or Treat Fall Fest, Christmas Knight Lights Trolley Ride, Teacher Appreciation Week, and Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day could not take place.
Other highlights of the year include our moms’ favorite, Lilly Pulitzer Day, and special “Family Knights” at Culvers and Chick-Fil-A, where each business donates a portion of the proceeds back to TVS.
Thank you to my fellow VSPA Leaders for an awesome year: Celia Curtis P’31, Monika Gatto P’26,’35, Christopher Marchand P’31, and Stella Siddiqi P’32.

A member of The Village School’s first graduating class and Valedictorian, Lauren Tayon says that TVS holds a special place in her heart because it’s where she discovered her passion.
While a student at TVS, Lauren was involved in everything, but especially loved theatre and music. Working with the Performing Arts team, Lauren’s talent blossomed and before long, she was starring in many productions both at The Village School and other area theaters.
Now, Lauren is a junior at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, majoring in Theatre Performance with a Dance mi-
nor. In addition to college classes, Lauren continues to audition for plays and showcases. She just finished playing Nora Helmer in A Doll’s House!
Lauren looks forward to her next project, as she’s been cast as the Princess in Love Labours in collaboration with the Nashville Shakespeare Festival, followed by a performance in The Mixed Bill Dance showcase.
Still, as busy as she is, Lauren says she loves to stop by TVS whenever she is home. Her happiest memories are those she shares with her former classmates and graduates. Wherever she is, TVS will always be her home.

The success of The Village Fund, the cornerstone of all fundraising at TVS, ensures that the exceptional programming and activities that first attracted your family to us remain strong.
We are grateful to the parents, grandparents and loyal friends listed here for their continued support of TVS.

As parents of twins who started at TVS in preschool and will graduate in May, The Village School has been a part of the lives of not only our children but their grandparents, and my husband and I.
Just as we watched our children grow we have seen the incredible advancement of the school.
Through the years we have learned what it means to be a member of an independent school community and how we all can contribute to the success of our children’s education, and more.
That is why we are proud to support the Village Fund every year, truly the foundation of all giving at TVS.

The Village School’s “On Track for our Success” Capital Campaign launched in January 2021 to an ecstatic parent and student community. The campaign was designed to renovate and improve the first floor of the Upper School building, including a Culinary Test Kitchen, a drama studio (which became the Lauren Tayon Drama Studio), additional classrooms, offices, and a conference room, as well as the long-awaited track and field.
Since then, the campaign has raised over $2.3 million and is actively fundraising to reach the new goal of $3.3 million, an increase that became necessary due to the rising costs of materials and labor.
With the construction of the track and field complete and the installation of bleachers expected in early 2023, the second phase of our campaign has begun.
So that our student-athletes can compete on their home track in the evening, fundraising continues for lights, concession stand, and restrooms.
Then, our track and field will become the TVS Knight’s Track and Field Facility!

Parents and friends enjoyed traveling “Around the World in a Knight” during our annual Knight Gala on March 12, 2022 at Grey Oaks Country Club. Thanks to our parents and friends, the Gala grossed a whopping $532,000 in support of TVS.
Under the direction of Event Co-Chairs Sarah Germain, Samantha Moran, and Maggie Talford, and Silent Auction Chair, Laney Farrugia, and their teams, guests enjoyed food and drink from different countries while perusing the amazing silent auction, complemented by the handmade decor from our TVS art students. Parent and Professional Auctioneer Chris Marchand P’30 took the stage and artfully rallied the guests to raise their paddle for TVS. Afterwards, The Robert Williamson Band got the crowd to their feet to dance, dance, dance! Thank you to all who supported the event.

As a parent, I love The Village School because of the culture, safe environment, and the Christ skills being taught to our children. I give additional support to The Village School because I am able to direct my funds to specific projects that I am passionate about. By contributing, I feel every child’s experience is enriched.

That’s the tagline at The Village School of Naples, but it is so much more. Village School truly is a community we all feel connected and respected, and honestly, known, nurtured, and loved.
I am so thankful for all that The Village School does for my four children.
Before working here, I was a parent of a Village School student and I saw first-hand how my child thrived in a student-centered classroom under the tutelage of caring and collaborative faculty.
The Village Fund is one of the best ways to support not only the faculty and staff that work here, but also the best way to insure our children have the best opportunity to succeed and thrive in this wonderful and ever-changing world.
I am so grateful that my kids have the opportunity to attend TVS.
THE VILLAGE SCHOOL, INC. IS A 501(C)(3) TAX EXEMPT ORGANIZATION, AND CLASSIFIED AS A PUBLIC CHARITY UNDER SECTIONS 509(A)(1) AND 170(B)(1)(A)(II) OF THE INTERNAL REVENUE CODE. OUR FEDERAL TAX IDENTIFICATION NUMBER IS 20-3171964.
