Nest Hello Video Doorbell vs Ring Pro Doorbell Nest Hello Video Doorbell vs Ring Pro Doorbell — Electrical Supplies compares the advantages of each. Are you stuck trying to choose between the Nest Hello Video Doorbell and the Ring Pro Doorbell? They may seem very similar from a brief glance as they are both video and audio doorbells which connect to an app on your iPhone or Android. However, there are a few more di erences other than the design and price. We will take you through all the advantages of each so that you are in a position to make the best possible choice for your individual requirements. If you have any more questions, do not hesitate to call one of our experts on 0115 964 9181 What is a video doorbell? First of all, we will answer the question ‘what is a video doorbell and why should I get one?’ Video doorbells are quite simply a doorbell which has a camera on it so that you can view who is at the door and even talk to them from your mobile phone via an app. This means that even if you are out, you can speak to the person that has rung your doorbell. There are several other advantages of owning a video doorbell including being able to view recorded footage for security reasons. Both the doorbells which we will compare in this article have motion sensors so will record everything once they sense movement. With a subscription, you can watch this footage back for a limited number of days. Ring and Nest are the leading brands in the video doorbell market. If you decide that you want to invest in one, it is likely you will be choosing between one of the two. The most popular models that we sell at Electrical Supplies are the Ring Pro and the Nest Hello. It can be a di cult choice so we have broken down the advantages of each. The Cameras Both doorbell cameras are 1080p HD with at least a 160-degree eld of view. They upload the video to the app using your wi either on a 2.4 or 5 gigahertz frequency. Both cameras need a minimum of two megabytes per second upload and download

speed to work properly. If you purchase the nest, which records constantly, you will need to make sure that your wi is not capped because it can use from 150 gigabytes to 600 gigabytes of upload bandwidth per month depending on the video quality settings. The reason why the Ring Pro does not require so much bandwidth is because it does not record 24/7. The Ring Pro only starts recording when it senses motion, when somebody presses the doorbell, and when you check the camera using the live view. This means that you will have signi cantly less footage recorded and stored on your cloud server. The video camera on both the Ring Pro and the Nest Hello has a night vision feature. The Ring Pro has a more enhanced night vision feature which occasionally can record in colour. However, it works automatically which means you cannot manually turn it o if you think the quality would be better without it on. For example, the camera may mistakenly turn night vision on if the person is stood too close to the camera blocking out the light, or it may have problems switching back to regular mode if the porch lights come on. The Nest Hello allows you to turn night vision on and o with a simple click of a button on the app. This means you may be able to get clearer footage when the porch lights are on. The Audio The Nest Hello doorbell and the Ring Pro doorbell both have a two-way audio. If you want higher clarity and volume so that you and the person at your door can speak clearly, then the Nest Hello may be the way to go because its speakers and microphone are of higher quality than the Ring Pro. However, a slight disadvantage of the Nest Hello, is that it only records and stores the audio from the person at the door and not the person speaking on the phone. If you then nd that you want to listen to the footage later on the verify what was said, you will only be able to listen to one side of the conversation, whereas on the Ring Pro, it records both. It is a weigh up between having a clear conversation but not being able to listen back to both sides, or having a conversation which, at times, might sound mu ed, but having both sides of the conversation to listen back to. Temperature You may have experienced your electrical devices temporarily stop working when they get too hot or too cold. If we experience extreme weather conditions, video doorbells can also be susceptible to this (although this is unlikely in the UK climate). The operating temperature of the Ring Pro is from -20 degrees Celsius to 48 degrees Celsius.

This is a wider range than the operating temperature of the Nest Hello which stands at -10 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius. So if you are planning on implementing your doorbell somewhere that experiences these high and low temperature, then this is something you may want to bear in mind. The Alert The Ring Pro and the Nest Hello both have some advanced features when it comes to the alerts which are sent to your phone or even read out by a smart speaker. With the Ring Pro, you can customise the alerts through the app and can add voice alerts so that you will know which camera was triggered if you have multiple Ring doorbells. You can also set up motion alerts so that your doorbell will send you a noti cation when it senses motion, giving you the heads up that somebody is about the press the bell. The Nest Hello doorbell takes this a step further with its face recognition feature. Whenever the device sees a new face, it will prompt you with a message to save it and attach a name to the face. Then, the next time that the camera sees that person, it will include the name of the person in the alert noti cation. The Nest hello noti cation shows you an icon of the camera view and allows you to respond without going to the app. There are three automated responses to choose between or you can customise your own. On the Ring Pro, you will need to open the app before you can reply to the noti cation. If you have a google home/assistant device, you can connect this to your Nest Hello doorbell so that it will verbally pronounce the alert and the name of the person. If you opt for the Ring Pro, you can buy a Ring Chime or a Chime Pro for a similar feature. They are wireless noti cation devices which allows you to hear the doorbell alert even if you are not near your phone. Theft Warranty Both devices have been designed to be a lot more di cult to steal than your average doorbell. They have complex adhesion designs with security screws and release tools. However, if your device does get stolen, it will record footage of the theft and both Ring and Nest provide warranty terms which will likely result in your doorbell being replaced. Subscription

Without a subscription, both the Nest Hello and the Ring Pro will work as doorbells, send noti cations to your phone including motion alerts, and allow two-way communication. However, you will not be able to access any pre-recorded footage without a subscription. Subscriptions for the Nest Hello start at £4 per month or £40 a year. This allows you access to a 5day video history, 24/7 continuous recording, intelligent alerts, clips and time lapse recordings, and the activity zone. Nest also o ers a 10-day video history for £8 per month or £80 per year, and a 30-day video history for £24 per month or £240 per year. These subscriptions are for one doorbell only so will not cover multiple doorbells. However, any subsequent subscriptions if you do have more than one doorbell, will be half the price. With the Ring Pro, there are only two subscription options. Firstly, the Protect Basic plan is £2.50 per month or £25 per year. This plan allows you to store all of your videos to your Ring account for up to 60 days. You will be able to review your videos at any time and share them with friends, family, and even law enforcement. The Ring Pro does not record 24/7, it only records and saves to the cloud when it senses motion, when the doorbell is used, and when “live view” is used. This is why it is able to store more days worth of videos for cheaper than the Nest Hello. The second subscription you could get with your Ring Pro is called the Protect Plus plan. This is £8 per month or £80 per year. It includes all of the features as the Protect Basic, plus it can cover unlimited cameras, adds a lifetime warranty as long as you are subscribed, and gives you exclusive discount on any future camera purchases. Once you have decided between the Nest Hello and the Ring Pro, make sure you choose a subscription which will allow you to make the most out of your new doorbell. However, there are key di erences which will aid your decision in choosing which one is most suitable for you. For example, the Nest Hello records 24/7 while the Ring Pro only records when it senses motion, when the doorbell is used, and when “live view” is used. This explains why the Nest Hello uses more wi and is more expensive to review footage in the subscription plans because there is more of it. Another di erence is that the Ring Pro records both sides of the audio conversation, while the Nest Hello only records one side of the audio from the person on the camera. However, the Nest Hello has a better quality microphone and speaker. The Ring Pro has a higher quality night vision feature, however, you cannot manually turn it o if the porch lights come on, while night vision can be easily be switched on and o with the Nest Hello. The Nest Hello has more alert features such as face recognition and being connected to your google home device. You do not have to have a subscription with your video doorbell, however if you want access to previous recordings then you will need one. The Ring Pro subscriptions are cheaper, but it does not record 24/7, so you will have less footage to review than on the Nest Hello. Ultimately, the decision is completely up to you. On our website, we sell the Ring Pro for £216 and the Nest Hello for £199. If you are still struggling to make the decision, do not hesitate to contact one of our experts on 0115 964 9181 for more advice and information. Internet of Things
