A Splendid Afternoon On Friday 9th December the innovative and exciting Splendid Productions theatre company visited Isaac Newton Academy. All of the GCSE Drama students in Year 10 and Year 11 attended a performance of Macbeth, a Splendid Productions re-telling of Shakespeare’s tragedy which was delivered to them in our very own Drama studio. Students were given the opportunity to see a range of theatrical techniques and conventions brought to life through the dynamic performances of Mark, Scott and Gen, the Splendid cast, who used very energetic multirole to bring all of Shakespeare’s character to life. After the performance, all of our Year 10 GCSE students attended a practical workshop, led by Mark, during which time they were able to explore some of Splendid’s techniques for devising and developing characters. The students benefitted greatly from the opportunity to work with professional actors, and to experiment practically with ideas and concepts central to creating thoughtprovoking theatre.

Papatango – ‘Remarkable unearthers of new talent.’ On Monday 12th December, 10 Mirren were given another great opportunity to enhance their Drama learning in the form of a script writing workshop from Papatango – another dynamic and exciting theatre company known for their discovery and promotion of new writers for theatre. Students were given a thought-provoking creative writing workshop that challenged them to consider playwriting concerns such as communicating character status and the importance of developing a convincing plot exposition through character dialogue. We were delighted to have Chris and George into school to deliver a workshop for us, and would like to thank them (particularly as this workshop was provided to us free of charge).
