I am currently working as a freelance Interior Designer for Rachel Laxer Interiors. At this company I am the project lead on a large apartment in New York City as well as helping with projects in America, France and the UK each at varying stages of the design process. For the project in New York , so far, I have created moodboards, drawn up furniture layouts, joinery elevations and bespoke sofas, procured bathroom fittings and marbles as well as helping source fabrics and directing a CGI company to create visuals.

While at TP Bennett, I worked on a couple of projects during the pitching stage. For one project my team was brought in to help the architects, focusing mainly on the reception area, cafe and signage. I participated in creating two schemes based around two different themes: one Starbucks and the other LA. For the second project I was involved in a design of a whole office building, including areas such as the reception, cafe, CEO’s office and terrace. This project was based in Morocco and involved an industrial style with a colour palette consisting of just three colours.

While in Australia I worked for a private client. I designed the interiors for their kitchen, living space and bathroom as well as redesigning their roof. I also created plans, sections and elevations for them so that they could apply for planning permission (under the guidance of an engineer).

While at Louise Jones I worked on multiple projects, the largest being a 48 room manor house combined with a hotel (consisting of 13 suites, and 2 self catered apartments). I have provided pictures of this completed project below. Although completion occurred after I left Louise Jones, while there, I helped to choose fabrics, specify furniture and lighting, ordered them and arranged deliveries. By way of contrast, I also worked on a modern penthouse apartment in Covent Garden and a family room in Regent’s Park. Below are photos of the boards I created for the family room and images of drawings which I commissioned as part of our presentation. For this last project I had to produce two schemes, both of which were based around a central gold piano and a Chihuly pendant.

My masters fused the abstract ideas I investigated in my research, in particular how to deal with the mental health consequences of the pursuit of perfection and escapism, with the physical characteristics of my site (a concrete staircase to the National Theatre car park).

I explored ways of illustrating how the imperfections of my unloved and ignored site - the stained concrete, its use as only a transitioning space, its shadow spaces - could become a source of interest and sanctuary, rather than an object of escape.

I played with the idea of re-imagining the site as a safe haven. Re-imagined in this way, my site became a visual and physical metaphor for the mental journey an individual must undertake if they are to become reconciled to the imperfections that surround them rather than continue along a self-destructive course of escape in pursuit of a (nonexistent) perfection.

I designed an installation using felt and latex to embody these ideas.

Photoshopped drawings showing the site from which my concept stemmed and the placement of the felt in the site as used in the installation.

Examples of sketches for my Master’s project: an optical illusion, a series overlapping people and an architectural drawing of my site.

In my final year I designed a series of walkways through a site in Gateshead. These walkways were mapped from the empty spaces when looking at historical maps of the site.

For my Graduate project I designed a concert hall, festival site and a series of artists’ retreats on Lindisfarne Island.
