elcome to the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce Directory. As the Chamber President for 2012 year, I am honored to have the opportunity to work side by side with highly motivated, engaged board members and volunteers. Together we will work in shaping the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce direction and future. During the 2012 year we will continue to follow the Strategic Plan and work on the areas of Value, Growth and Influence. As this was a three year plan, we will be reexamining our goals for the coming years. Our theme for this year is “Contact – Connect – Communicate”. Shirley Patton, Executive Director, and I have made a commitment to “Contact” members and prospective members face to face on a weekly basis. This will enable us to “Connect” with businesses, organizations, and individuals on a personal level establishing those relationships necessary to keep both parties informed and open to ideas. We must do a better job of “Communicating” with each other and our community to lead El Dorado to be the best place to do business. We understand that all of you are very busy…job, family, involvement. So, let me thank you in advance for your time spent as a Director, committee member or volunteer. I thank the businesses who have allowed employees time from work for the many committees that are such a vital part of the Chamber. Our Vision The El Dorado Chamber of Commerce delivers value and leadership everyday and is broadly known and recognized for its professionalism, knowledge, resourcefulness and enthusiastic “Community First!” attitude.
Our Mission The mission of the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce is to enhance the economic, industrial, professional, cultural and civic welfare of El Dorado and the surrounding area.
Membership Your chamber is a private, non-profit organization. It’s goals and activities are determined and financed by the membership. Membership is voluntary and open to any business or individual who wants to help make El Dorado a better place to live, work or do business.
Committees The goals of the Chamber are accomplished largely through volunteers within the committee structure of the organization. All members are urged to serve on one or more committees.

Chamber Full Board The Chamber Full Board meets on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at noon in the Chamber Conference Room and handles the business end of the Chamber Ambassadors Committee Deb Ward, Chair Kansas Secured Title The Ambassador Committee meets on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at noon in the Chamber Conference Room. The purpose of the committee is to welcome new members, retain existing members and serve as the official goodwill diplomats for the Chamber of Commerce. Their projects include ribbon cuttings, annual meeting (Chamber premier social event), Open Car & Bike Show, New Teacher and School Bell awards, Lunch and Learn sessions, and Business Recognition & Partnership Award Breakfast Member Promotion Committee Terri Fioretto, Chair, Bella Bed & Breakfast Carol Lee, Co-Chair, Butler Workforce Center The Member Promotions Committee meets on the first Monday of each month in the Chamber Conference Room. The purpose of the committee is to enhance the economic climate by promoting a unified business community as well as to promote and increase membership of the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce. Their projects include chamber mixers, business to business, annual membership drive, Women’s Fair, Member Appreciation & Volunteer Recognition Picnic
Senior Ambassadors Committee Kenneth Wagner, Chair The Senior Ambassadors meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 9:30 am in the Chamber Conference Room. The purpose of the committee is to assist with Chamber activities and other community functions, and to have fun while doing it. Projects include: Assist with most Chamber events, including Celebration of Freedom, Women’s Fair, Chamber Annual Meeting, El Dorado Car Show, deliver warm welcome bags and many others. They also assist with special projects as needed. You will also see them helping with the Governor’s One Shot Turkey Hunt and Frontier Western Celebration. The purpose of this committee is to provide continuity between the organizational mission & vision statement to ensure the efforts of it’s committees are in constant alignment with the strategic goals and objectives. Junior Ambassadors Ginger Glenn, Co-Chair Katie Runnion, Co-Chair, Commerce Bank The Junior Ambassadors meet on the 3rd Monday of each month at 7:30 pm in the Chamber Conference Room. The purpose of the committee is to promote high school students’ involvement in the Chamber of Commerce and the City of El Dorado activities while providing an education in community service. Projects of the Junior Ambassadors include assistance with all Chamber activities such as Annual Meeting, Walnut River Festival , Women’s Fair, Open Car Show, Community Events and Celebration of Freedom Celebration of Freedom Committee
Kevin Pickrell, Co-Chair BCC Neil Buckman, Co-Chair, State Farm Insurance The Celebration of Freedom Committee meets on the 3rd Thursday of every month at 5:30 pm in the Chamber Conference Room. The purpose of the committee is to honor our veterans, promote patriotism, and to educate young people of how our freedoms are earned. Projects of the committee include the Veterans’ Day week long celebration including a parade.
Walnut River Festival Jean Plummer, Chair The Walnut River Festival Committee meets at 4:00 pm in the Chamber Conference Room beginning seven months prior to the Festival. Believing that it takes a community to raise a child, the Walnut River Festival is a showcase for our children and gives the community an opportunity to see what they are doing in school with a focus on the arts. This is an opportunity for children from toddler through Community College level to perform and experience age appropriate creative activities. Sue Givens, Co-Chair, USD 490 The BEAT committee meets as needed on the 2nd Tuesday of the month in the Chamber Conference Room at 7:30 am. The purpose of the Committee is to foster connections between business and education in order to enhance economic development and improve quality of life. Projects of the committee are the New Teacher and School Bell Award, Business Recognition & Partnership Award, Community Connections, and Vision 20/20 Mentoring Program.

What are Chamber Bucks? “Chamber Bucks” are a gift certificate, purchased at the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce. The purchaser of the Chamber Buck has a sincere desire for the recipient to purchase an item or items of their choice within the El Dorado Community. Chamber Bucks were created to help support our El Dorado Merchants, as well as keep our hard earned money, right here in El Dorado.
This gift certificate should be used in its entirety at your business, as you may reserve the right to not give them any change if the full amount is not used. You may however, choose to give them their change; as you will receive a refund in the full amount for the Chamber Buck. Chamber Bucks are accepted at most businesses within the El Dorado Community. This certificate is to be redeemed at the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce. You must endorse the back of each “Chamber Buck” with your business name and address. Please either mail, or bring in Chamber Bucks to the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce (201 E. Central). The El Dorado Chamber will then process the payment, and mail you a check within two weeks. The City of El Dorado takes pride in providing high quality services and amenities to its citizens and in helping business and industry thrive. The City of El Dorado completed the reconstruction of 6th Ave and Boyer Rd. which improved traffic flow to the west end of El Dorado and addressed flooding and safety concerns with the old roadway. The City of El Dorado was awarded ARRA funding for the project which reduced tax payer and benefit districts expense. El Dorado was one of the few communities in the region to receive ARRA funding. The City of El Dorado staff has played a role in the development and ongoing construction of the BG Veterans Sports Complex. The Government Finance Officers Association has awarded the City of El Dorado the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting every year since 1979. Considered the gold standard in municipal finance, the award serves to recognize organizations whose annual financial reports demonstrate transparency and full disclosure. El Dorado has the only waste water treatment facility in the state that incorporates a wetland ecosystem, awarded the 2088 National Project of the Year Award in the Environmental Category by the American Public Works Association and featured in February 2011 edition of Treatment Plant Operators magazine. The City of El Dorado was the nation’s only grant recipient from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Hope VI Main Street grant program. This grant program is designed to provide assistance to smaller communities in the development of affordable housing that is undertaken in conjunction with a Main Street revitalization effort. The City of El Dorado was awarded $500,000 which will be used to fund the redevelopment of two properties in the Main Street district into commercial/residential space.

Vision 2020 Adopt-a-Class During the fall of 2007, the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce established the Vision 2020 Adopt-a-Class program, which directly affects all eight Kindergarten classrooms in El Dorado USD 490. Vision 2020 stands for the year the first group of kindergartners will graduate from high school. Teams of at least four people from area businesses and organizations adopted the kindergarten classes, and with the help of teachers, volunteers were shown ways to interact with children. Volunteers committed to spending one hour a week during the school year with their “adopted” kindergarten students. These teams will continue to interact with their “adopted” class until the class graduates from high school. Therefore, each fall a new group of volunteers are recruited to “adopt” the incoming kindergarten class. During the 2011-2012 school year there are over 750 kindergarten, first, second, third and fourth grade students in the program with 170 mentors comprising 38 teams. Studies have shown that mentors do matter. Being a mentor to El Dorado students can make a world of difference in the lives of these young people. It’s Fun! Volunteers can participate in a variety of in -school activities, including sharing lunch with students, reading to a student or class, interacting on the playground, sharing experiences and wisdom, tutoring, or just listening.

Newcomer Program Sponsored by the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce Because of your loyal Chamber Membership, we are excited to offer you the opportunity to participate in the Warm Welcome Program. This program reaches out to those new to El Dorado with a warm gift bag full of goodies! This program is available only to Chamber members, and gives you a direct pipeline to this prime market! Postcards are located at various businesses around El Dorado and can be mailed or brought into us by the newcomer. The Chamber prepares these gift bags, and our Sr. Ambassadors deliver them, personally, once a month to the newcomer’s home. To participate in the “Warm Welcome” program, please bring three months worth of your specialty advertising items (about 30 items), to the Chamber office. If you are a Gold, Platinum, or Diamond level member, this benefit is completely free! If you are not an upper level member, you will be charged $3.00 per bag delivered. You can choose to be billed monthly or quarterly. At time of billing you will also receive the Newcomer’s name, address, phone number and email. You may use this information at your discretion. Currently, the bags include: The El Dorado Chamber Membership Directory, El Dorado City Map, Phone Book, Brochures/Literature about El Dorado, El Dorado Visitors Guide, Kansas Visitors guide, Packet of Seeds, Shopping Bag, Insulated Re-usable Water Bottle, Pad & Pen, 32 oz.
