What is Terrazzo? Durable, versatile, stylish and hard-wearing. Cement Terrazzo is a composite material, poured in place or precast, which is used for floor and wall treatments.

Terrazzo Contains chips of marble, quartz, granite or glass ground and polished smooth or otherwise finished to produce a seamless textured surface.

The mix is what gives it a unique speckled look, held together by a resin or concrete base. Depending on your desired finish, it is then polished, honed, or sandblasted.

Technical specification will vary depending on the components used during the production

We can divide terrazzo:

We can divide chips used:

• Poured on site cementitious • Poured on site epoxy • Precast cementitious

• Quartz • Marble • Glass

To increase quality chemicals can be added during manufacturing process to make terrazzo less porous, or more resistant, etc. Technical specs examples • For the references we attached EXAMPLES of specifications of all three materials, however those must be reviewed based on used chips, material and manufacturer. • Visually, once fixed, sometimes its very hard to differentiate terrazzo from quartz. 15

What is the difference between terrazzo tiles and quartz stone and artificial marble? • Terrazzo, artificial marble, artificial stone and quartz – in all of the them the concept is same. Chips of diverse material are bounded by another material. • As for general use Artificial stone and Artificial Marble are joined by use of RESIN, so its not much recommended for outdoor. Sizes of the slabs can vary as well in terms of the thickness of the material. • Terrazzo joined by cement, can be used outdoor, however filler should be applied. Terrazzo is more corrosive, so should not be used with some chemicals, for those areas quartz is much more recommended. • Terrazzo poured on site, is another option, this one could be cement or epoxy, the epoxy is recommended for indoor application only. Its difficult for materials such as Sintered stone, Neolith, etc... as they are 100% crushed and pressed natural material, specs are high but price is about 3 times of the standard quartz/ prefabricated marble. 16
