CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS 2001 • Record: 14-6 OVC Tournament Champions The 2001 campaign marked the beginning of four consecutive OVC Tournament Championships for the Panthers. Beth Liesen and Devon Bissell continued to lead a high-powered offense in 2001, combining to score 59 of the team’s 128 points. Liesen scored 18 goals and added five assists while Bissell recorded an EIU singleseason record 16 assists. Liesen also set a conference single-season record with nine game-winning goals. The Panthers advanced to their first NCAA Tournament, facing Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., on Nov. 16. The Fighting Irish handed the Panthers a 2-0 loss.

2002 • Record: 12-8-2 OVC Tournament Champions In 2002, the Panthers won their second consecutive OVC Tournament Title. Southeast Missouri State won the regularseason title in 2001 and 2002, but lost to the Panthers both years in the conference tournament finale. Beth Liesen again paced the Panthers in scoring with 26 points (nine goals, eight assists). EIU faced another team from Indiana in the NCAA Tournament, facing Purdue in South Bend, Ind., on Nov. 5. Arguably the closest game in posteason history for EIU, the Panthers took the Boilermakers to double overtime only to loss the match, 3-1, on penalty kicks.

CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS 2003 • Record: 11-6-5 OVC Tournament Champions As far as records are concerned, the 2003 season was one of the most successful in OVC history. As a team, the Panthers set three singleseason records highlighted by the squad scoring 50 goals - the most in OVC history. Individually, Beth Liesen set seven singleseason OVC records on her way to capturing ‘Player of the Year’ honors. She scored 49 points, including 20 goals. Conference newcomer Samford won the regular-season title, but the Panthers would win their third tournament title in a row. In the NCAA Tournament, EIU dropped a 1-0 contest to Missouri in Columbia, Mo., on Nov. 14.

2004 • Record: 13-6-2 OVC Tournament Champions The 2004 squad captured an unprecedented fourth consecutive OVC Tournament title. Despite the graduation of arguably the best player in conference history in Beth Liesen, the Panthers simply reloaded. Michelle Steinhaus led the Panthers in scoring with 26 points (10 goals, six assists) while being named the ‘OVC Freshman of the Year’. For the third time in four years, the Panthers were sent to South Bend, Ind., in the NCAA Tournament where they would face Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish defeated the Panthers, 4-0, on Nov. 12.
