ANIMAL MANAGEMENT & VETERINARY NURSING Are you passionate about the care and welfare of animals? Here’s your chance to learn about this exciting world: from animal husbandry to anatomy and first aid. Plus, you will be responsible for the animal residents of EIT’s animal facility. You will gain the skills necessary to assist veterinarians or help manage an animal facility.

YOUR CAREER OPPORTUNITIES You could work with animals in a veterinary practice, animal facility, laboratory, animal hospital or wildlife park. You could also go on to earn a qualification in veterinary nursing, technology or science.

NZ Certificate in Animal Management (Companion Animals Strand) [Level 4] Gain the skills required to work in the animal care and handling industry through hands-on practical training, animal theory and work experience placements. Graduates will be able to demonstrate knowledge of animal anatomy and physiology, animal husbandry, recognise the signs of ill-health, and apply first aid to small animals. You must be willing to work with all animals, plus dissect and handle animal body parts and fluids. Length 41 weeks full-time

NZ Certificate in Animal Technology (Veterinary Nursing Assistant Strand) [Level 5] This qualification will prepare you to work in a veterinary-related field under the supervision and direction of a veterinarian or veterinary nurse. You will learn about animal husbandry and how to maintain animal health within a veterinary clinic, how to care for hospitalised animal patients, assist in surgery preparation and anaesthesia, and conduct routine diagnostic procedures. You will complete a total of 200 hours of work experience in veterinary clinics, & 40 hours in an animal facility. Length 41 weeks full-time

NZ Diploma in Veterinary Nursing [Level 6] Become an essential part of a veterinary team, clinic or hospital and provide surgical and medical veterinary nursing, manage services and perform diagnostic sampling and medical imaging. These skills will be gained through online delivery and via week-long block courses (1 each semester) in our purpose built simulation veterinary clinic. You will also spend a total of 280 hours in veterinary clinics throughout New Zealand. Length 41 weeks full-time

Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing [Level 7] Build on your expertise as a veterinary nurse with the new Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing. Graduates of the BVN will place animal welfare at the forefront of every veterinary nursing task and procedure, basing their practice on contemporary evidence and extensive theoretical knowledge. Length 3 years full-time
