La Venezia di Sandro Diani rivive a New York “Nei miei quadri, così come in questi lavori su carta in bianco e nero, rappresento le ‘mie Venezie’, la città così come mi piacerebbe che fosse, simile a quella che lasciai ormai cinquant’anni fa”. Con queste parole l’artista italo-americano Sandro Diani parla delle sue “Memories of Venice”, le quattordici opere che faranno parte della mostra allestita dal 2 al 27 maggio presso la galleria New Art Center di New York, grazie alla collaborazione del locale Istituto Italiano di Cultura. Cosmopolita ma da anni residente a New York, Sandro Diani è nato a Venezia nel 1937, e fin da giovanissimo si è dedicato all’arte. Oggi i suoi lavori sono presenti in collezioni pubbliche e private di ben 27 Paesi.

SANDRO DIANI’S VENICE IS BROUGHT TO LIFE IN NEW YORK “In my pieces, as in my black and white works on paper, I depict ‘my Venice’, the city as I would like it to be, similar to the one I left 50 years ago.” With these words the Italian-American artist Sandro Diani speaks of his “Memories of Venice”, the fourteen works that will make up his exhibition running from May 2 to 27 at the New Art Center gallery in New York, thanks to the collaboration of the local Institute of Italian Culture. A cosmopolitan resident of New York for years now, Sandro Diani was born in Venice in 1937 and has dedicated herself to art since she was very young. Today his works are presented in private and public collections in 27 countries.
“Facce” italo-americane in mostra Fino al 29 giugno, nell’ambito degli eventi promossi per la “New York’s Immigrant History Week”, l’Italian American Museum ospiterà la mostra fotografica di Salvatore Sparavigna dal titolo “Faces of ItaliaNY”. Attraverso una serie di immagini in bianco e nero, Sparavigna racconta le diverse “facce” della comunità italo-americana: dalle processioni religiose di Brooklyn alle eleganti figure femminili delle notti mondane. Da una parte quindi, la vera e propria vita di comunità, quella che affonda le proprie radici nell’”essere migrante” e nel partecipare alla vita del “gruppo”; dall’altra, la nuova Italianità, fatta di grandi celebrazioni, “americane” nei metodi organizzativi, ma italiane per i valori e i sentimenti che vogliono esprimere.
Italian-American “Faces” on exhibition As part of the events planned for “New York’s Immigrant History Week”, the Italian American Museum will host a photography exhibition by Salvatore Sparavigna titled “Faces of ItaliaNY” and open until June 29. In a series of black and white images, Sparavigna tells the stories of the diverse “faces” of the Italian-American community: from religious processions in Brooklyn to elegant worldly feminine figures. On one side, he depicts a vision of true community life that can be found deep in the roots of the experience of migrating peoples and those participating in this group life. On the other hand, he portrays the new Italian spirit that is greatly influenced by “American” organizational methods but remains Italian in the values and sentiments it expresses.

Le “Stelle del Piemonte” volano alle Nazioni Unite Dopo aver ospitato nel 2006 i Giochi Olimpici Invernali, Torino ed il Piemonte si presentano, dal 14 al 18 maggio, ad un nuovo appuntamento internazionale: il “Torino and Piemonte Food Festival”, presso la Delegates Dining Room delle Nazioni Unite. Qui, i protagonisti saranno i top chef della squadra delle “Stelle del Piemonte”, che ogni giorno proporranno nel Ristorante del Palazzo di Vetro un menù diverso, composto dai migliori piatti regionali, rivisitati ed interpretati secondo la filosofia di ciascuno. Le loro creazioni verranno gustate dagli ambasciatori ONU, ma anche dai più importanti giornalisti, food editors, politici, personaggi del mondo dello spettacolo e della cultura di New York.
THE “STELLE DEL PIEMONTE” TEAM PAY A SPECIAL VISIT TO THE UNITED NATIONS After hosting the Winter Olympic Games in 2006, Turin and the Piedmont region present a new international engagement, the “Turin and Piedmont Food Festival” from May 14 to 18 in the Delegates Dining Room of the United Nations. The protagonists of the event will be the top chefs of the “Stelle del Piemonte” (Stars of the Piedmont) team, each of which will propose a unique daily menu of the best regional dishes re-examined and designed for the UN Restaurant. Their creations will be tasted not only by ambassadors of the UNO but also by the most important journalists, food editors, politicians, and people involved in show business and the cultural world of New York.
Un importante riconoscimento internazionale ha visto protagonista un nostro connazionale, l’Ammiraglio di Divisione Giuseppe De Giorgi: a lui, infatti, la rivista Aviation Week ha conferito l’Aviation Week Laureate Awards. Il riconoscimento, promosso dalla rivista Aviation Week e giunto quest’anno alla sua 50ª edizione, è stato assegnato all’Ammiraglio De Giorgi per la categoria “Militare”, e ha voluto così premiare il successo operativo dell’Operazione Leonte da lui condotta in Libano, nel quadro della missione UNIFIL 2.
ITALIAN RECEIVES AN AWARD BY AVIATION WEEK MAGAZINE In an important international acknowledgement, Aviation Week magazine recognized our compatriot Vice-admiral Giuseppe De Giorgi by awarding him the Aviation Week Laureate Award. This acknowledgement, included in the 50th issue of Aviation Week, was awarded to Vice-admiral De Giorgi in the military category for his great success in the Leonte operation he conducted in Lebanon as part of the UNIFIL 2 mission.
