An adolescent girl’s coming-of-age story in a small Indian village.

A charming, magical coming-of-age tale set on the streets of Kolkata.

A delightfully balanced, evocative and heartfelt story about a 15-year-old schoolgirl named Bulbul (the thoroughly charming Arnali Das), who is growing up in a remote farming village in Assam. Bulbul Can Sing is beautifully made by writer, director, producer and editor Rima Das, and Bulbul’s story is endearingly human, following how she and her friends deal with school, relationships, clothes and families – Bulbul’s mother wants her daughter to behave perfectly, while her father hopes she will have a singing career. A generous and warm story of teenage empowerment. [12A]

When he receives a letter from his long-absent father on the eve of his 10th birthday, Chippa (Sunny Pawar, who played young Saroo in Lion) leaves his unhappy home on the streets of Kolkata to find someone who can read it to him. Streetwise and fearless, Chippa takes a dreamlike journey deep into Kolkata. He encounters a multitude of characters, each with their own views on life, which reflect Chippa’s unfiltered curiosity and determination. Featuring a stand-out performance from Sunny Pawar, this is an engaging and heartfelt feature debut from Safdar Rahman. [PG]

TUE 25 JUNE 18:00 ODEON 1 THU 27 JUNE 18:10 ODEON 2 PRICE: £12.00 (£9.00 CONCS) A police narcotics team goes undercover in a fried-chicken shop. This South Korean blockbuster, blending crime drama and comedy, is packed with smart and funny dialogue and a series of action moments. A blundering police narcotics team, led by Captain Ko (Ryu Seung-yong, Kingdom), faces disbandment. In a last-ditch attempt at a bust, they take over a fried-chicken shop directly opposite a possible drug den. Soon, the squad discovers they’re more successful at selling fried chicken than police work. With engaging characters, Extreme Job’s oddball storyline allows for plenty of intense fight scenes to complement the comedy. [15]

Overeducated courier Pierre-Paul (Alexandre Landry) stumbles across a botched robbery and nabs a bag containing millions of dollars. He plans to give it to good causes, but can’t resist a high-class escort with a heart of gold (Maripier Morin). Together, they recruit a gang to dispose of the dirty money in the best way possible.
