A Note

from the Executive Director

Dear Friends, You have played such an important part in this critical work. I wish I could take you all to Haiti to show you the faces of the lives you have changed. I wish you could experience the true blessing you’ve been to these children and the joy you’d feel looking into their eyes, knowing their names, and witnessing their pride in writing their name for the first time or reading their first words. It has been an exciting year for Restavek Freedom, and we have you to thank for it. With your partnership, support, and advocacy, we have given hope to 700+ children through our advocacy program, we have reached 1.5 million people through our Zoukoutap soap opera, and we are opening our second transitional home for girls, providing them with a safe and loving environment to heal and grow. They are our children, they are your children and they are God’s children. Thanks to your help, we have a very real hope that one day these children will no longer live in servitude, but will know the love, freedom, and care that should be the reality of every child. We can do it. We can end child slavery in Haiti in our lifetime. The issues remain complex and the task at hand is sometimes overwhelming. Yet by God’s grace and with your help, we can do it! Consider how you can further join us in this work. Your investment is changing lives! Joan Conn Executive Director

My name is Samuel. I am 9 years old. This was my first year in school and I really liked it. My favorite subject is math. I made my first friend this year. His name is Jean Michael. I want to go to school because I want to be able to help kids like me. I want to be a teacher and help every child learn and grow.

CLASS OF 2027

Stories of hope Carolina

CLASS OF 2023 I’m Carolina. I have been part of the Restavek Freedom program for 3 years now. Before I was part of the program, I was not allowed to go to school. I had to work at home every day and often did not get food to eat. I still have many jobs to do at home, but I also get to go to school. My teacher says I am the brightest in my class. I also get a hot meal before school each day. I smile because I have hope for my future.

Hi, my name is Adneyca. I am 10 years old and in the second grade. My best friend’s name is Talamania. We love jumping rope together. My favorite class in school is French. I love school and I know that it will help me to become a nurse one day. I want to help people like I have been helped. Before I got to go to school, I didn’t think I would have a good future. Now that I am in school, I know that anything is possible.

Jeandy

CLASS OF 2018 My name is Jeandy. In 3 years I will have completed my education! This is a very big accomplishment for me. A lot of children in Haiti never get to finish their education. For me to finish is a very big blessing. Going to school means everything to me. In 3 years I would like to go to school to be a social worker. I want to be an advocate for children in Haiti, just like my advocate was for me.
