THE SPITFIRE GRILL

When: August 13-September 5 Where: Arizona Broadway Theatre, 7701 W. Paradise Lane, Peoria What: Recently released from a five-year prison sentence for manslaughter, Percy Talbot finds her second chance working at the Spitfire Grill. The grill is for sale, but there are no takers for the only eatery in the depressed town. With Percy’s future hanging in the balance, she convinces the owner to raffle it off with an essay contest. Soon, mail arrives by the wheelbarrow, and things really start cooking at the Spitfire Grill! When: August 14, 1-2:30 p.m. Where: Sunrise Mountain Library, 21109 N. 98th Ave., Peoria What: The second Saturday of every month, PAWS 2 Read is an ongoing program which allows children to read aloud to therapy dogs in order to improve reading skills. When children practice reading individually to trained therapy dogs (and their handlers) they become more confident readers, while having fun! After all, a dog will not correct them or make them feel awkward if they stumble. This same event takes place the third Saturday of every month at Peoria Main Library as well.
