Hi, my name is… Tamra Wyman of Wyman Plumbing & Mechanical LLC

HI, MY NAME IS… Tamra Wyman

MY COMPANY AND TITLE IS… Owner at Wyman Plumbing & Mechanical LLC

A TYPICAL DAY IN MY LIFE INCLUDES…

My workweek is pretty routine. I start by getting up early and going for a 45 minute run (rain or shine), get cleaned up, drop the kids off at school, and then head to work. After a day at work, I end the day with a weight-lifting workout then find something to do with the family, whether it is swimming, dirt biking, playing a game, or watching a movie. The night ends with some light reading before bed.

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT LIVING/ WORKING IN THE NORTH VALLEY IS…

It feels like a small community. We both grew up in a small town of 1,200 people in Southwest Colorado, and though we moved to one of the largest counties in the U.S.A., being in the North Valley feels more like a small, tight knit community. We have come to know our customers, fellow business owners and neighbors, and no matter whether we eat out or go grocery shopping, we run into friends.

MY FAVORITE MOVIE I COULD NEVER GET TIRED OF WATCHING AND WHY…

For some reason, I’ve never had an all time favorite movie. My husband’s is the movie “Tombstone.” I enjoy many actors and genres. My favorites are action, comedy, and western. The Rambo saga, 3:10 to Yuma, The Magnificent Seven, Open Range, any John Wayne movie, and The Expendables, to name a few.

MY FAMILY IS… husband Doug, son Erik (19), daughter Jilli (15), son Henry (13), and daughter Allie (5). We all have a lot of fun together camping, tubing down the Salt River, paddle boarding on the lake, riding dirt bikes, swimming, and exploring in the Jeep.

THE BUSINESS LESSON I LEARNED

THE HARD WAY IS… All of them. But the important thing is to learn from

them and find ways to make sure it doesn’t happen again. I think learning the hard way helps it stick in mind longer, too!

ONE THING I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT

IS… My workouts and music! I absolutely love lifting weights and losing myself in my music. I’ve always loved country dancing, too, but have lived without that since kids. Maybe again in the future!

WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, I WANTED TO

BE… a veterinarian.

THE SONG I WOULD SING AT KARAOKE NIGHT IS…The Devil Went Down to Georgia by The Charlie Daniels Band.

THE ONE PERSON WHO MOTIVATES

ME IS… my husband. He’s my rock and my beacon that shines in the dark. I love his work ethic, his morals, his empathy, how he can set goals then stick to them, and he has the patience of a saint. He sets so many examples that I try to follow.

THE LAST THING THAT MADE ME

LAUGH OUT LOUD WAS…Definitely my youngest daughter. She says the most random things.

THE PERFECT DAY WOULD BE… Enjoying my husband’s company exploring the deserts, lakes or the mountains.

MY FIRST JOB WAS… Working in my dad’s wood shop as a pre-teen, but outside family business it was actually working for a plumbing supply store. Little did I know I’d marry a plumber and own a plumbing company! MY LIFE…is filled with family, running a business, raising kids, health/fitness routine, and still trying to make time for me. I’m currently working on staying positive, being the best version of myself, and completing the 75 Hard program.

THE BEST GIFT I’VE EVER RECEIVED

WAS… a new wedding ring that my husband gave me when he re-proposed to me on our last anniversary. It was the loving and tear-jerking introduction speech leading up to the gift that made it so special. I’m honestly not much of a “jewelry girl” but the story behind it was beautiful.

MY DREAM VACATION WOULD BE TO…

Try out one of those beach vacations at an exotic place or go escape to the mountains during the summer.

MY WORDS OF WISDOM TO ASPIRING

BUSINESS OWNERS… Take a leap of faith. Do not doubt yourself. If you think you can or you can’t – you’re probably right. Where there is a will, there is a way. You can’t build a business from the ground if you don’t have the “whatever it takes” mentality. Stay positive, build a business plan, work the hours and put in all the hard work. If it were easy, everyone would do it.

Own a Local Business? Join the North Valley’s Business Pros Connect

Networking and running a successful business go hand in hand. It is an invaluable way to make new connections, learn from other business owners, and tell others about your business. While at events, it is important to remember that you are not just gaining exposure to the people in the room, you are building connections with their networks, too.

So, how can you get the most out of a networking event? Ask the right questions. Good questions are a way of building relationships and connecting with those that you meet.

Here are some engaging questions to ask at a networking event:

• “What business problem does your company solve?” • “Tell me why you love what you do.” • “Who is your ideal client?” • “What sets you apart from others in your industry?” • “What’s the best thing that has happened in your business this year?” • “What kind of people can I introduce you to that would be a good fit for your business?” • “How do you like to de-stress from work?” We recommend not starting a conversation with “What do you do?” This implies that you are only interested in what they do for business, and what they can do for you. You want to show that you are interested in who they are as a person as well. Remember, real conversations lead to real connections—and networking is all about the connections.

Did you know that the North Valley has its own business networking group? Our very own Business Pros Connect was created specifically for fellow local business owners in the community to form business relationships and exchange referrals. For more information, join in at Facebook.com/Groups/BusinessProsConnect.

In addition to the virtual group, Business Pros Connect meets monthly at Elevate Coffee Company, located at 2530 W. Happy Valley Road, Ste. 1273, in the Shops at Norterra. This month, we’re meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 12: 30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25. This is a free, non-industry exclusive event. Be sure to bring plenty of business cards. Whether you join Business Pros Connect in-person, online, or both, we can’t wait to hear about your business.

Peoria Business Community Welcome at the Biz 2 Biz West Valley Expo

By Veronica Christiansen, Event Coordinator for the Peoria Chamber of Commerce

Each year, the West Valley Chamber Alliance works collaboratively to produce the Biz 2 Biz West Valley Expo. This is a productive networking opportunity to foster business relationships throughout the West Valley business community. This event is free to attend, open to the public, and takes place on August 26 from 4-7 p.m. The event is hosted by all six West Valley Chambers of Commerce at the Glendale Civic Center.

The Biz-to-Biz Expo offers an unparalleled opportunity for businesses throughout the West Valley and beyond to highlight their products and services to hundreds of decision makers and buyers. While attending, enjoy a cash bar, prizes and develop critical relationships with surrounding businesses and leaders throughout the Avondale, Buckeye, El Mirage, Glendale, Peoria, Surprise, Tolleson, Goodyear, Litchfield Park, Sun City, Sun City West, Wickenburg, and Youngtown business communities.

The Peoria Chamber of Commerce is pleased to invite its membership, community partners, and the entire West Valley community to come out and engage with member businesses on display. This event gives you the opportunity to learn about new market trends, engage with a display of quality goods and services, and interact with great leaders in the West Valley.

To allow for social distancing and public safety, they have reduced the number of booths to 93. Businesses can register at bit.ly/biz2biz2021 and select the Peoria Chamber of Commerce when registering. The event is free to attend to the general public and no RSVP is necessary.
