Jan TROELL İsveç’in güneyinde, Malmö yakınlarında Limhamn’da doğdu. Bo Wideberg ile kısa film “The Boy and the Dragonand”ı çekti ve 1962’de Widerberg’in ilk uzun metrajlı filmi “The Pram”in görüntü yönetmenliğini yaptı. 1964’te “Stay in the Marshland” filmiyle Oberhausen Kısa Film Festivali’nde büyük ödülü kazandı. Troell, Eyvind Johnson’un otobiyografisi “The Story of Olof ”dan uyarlayarak çektiği “Here is Your Life” (1966) filmiyle çıkış yaptı. Bu başarılı çıkışı “Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe” (1967) ve en büyük projeleri “The Emigrants” ve “The New Land” (1971-1972) izledi. “Land of Dreams” (1988), “Il Capitano” (1991) ve “Hamsun” (1996) filmleriyle Troell İsveç’te hala film dünyasının ve tartışmaların odağında yer almaktadır. Son uzun metrajlı filmi “As White As in Snow” 2001’de gösterme girdi. Jan TROELL He was born at Limhamn, near Malmö, in the south of Sweden. Together with Bo Widerberg he made the short film “The Boy and The Dragonand” and became the photographer in Widerberg's first feature, “The Pram”, in 1962. In 1964, with “Stay in the Marshland”, he won the first prize at the Oberhausen Short Film Festival. Troell's breakthrough came with “Here is Your Life” (1966) based on Eyvind Johnson's autobiography “The Story of Olof ”. The successful debut was followed by “Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe” (1967) and the giant projects “The Emigrants” and “The New Land” (1971-1972). With the films “Land of Dreams” (1988), “Il Capitano” (1991) and “Hamsun” (1996) Troell is still in the centre of the film life and debate in Sweden. His latest feature film “As White As In Snow” premiered in 2001.
