Almost a year ago I decided I wanted to take a year off from studying to do something else. I was looking for something challenging, something fun and something that would broaden my network. Doing a board year has it all and EFR seemed the ultimate challenge.

Working with 7 committees and over forty committee members and summary writers, all with different backgrounds and ideas, has been the most significant learning experience. It requires you to step out of your comfort zone and get out there.

If something is not possible, you are the one to tell your committee, also when it’s the third time already. At the same time you are also the one having to keep them motivated, finding that balance proved very important.

But we did not just work hard. We also had a lot of fun. We traveled all across Europe on our Ski/Vienna trip, got drunk on Cobo’s all across the Netherlands and we, most of all, became a close group of friends.

I would certainly recommend doing a board year. You will gain experience in many different fields as well as meet a lot of interesting people. All in all a great life experience.

If you are still in doubt or want to know more, I am always happy to tell you more over beer or coffee.
