Warm Hubs Guide
Food Alliance Network Cost of living response
Enfield
WELCOME
Since November 2020, Enfield Food Alliance, with support from Enfield Council, has been working with partner organisations to reduce food poverty, secure funding of over £370k for our members and build trust to enable our members to collaborate and extend their activities and services. The cost of living increases mean that our collaborative approach to tackling food poverty is even more relevant to our communities in Enfield.
This guide has been developed to help our members and others to set up a Warm Hub in response to the cost of living crisis. You can find a directory of Warm Hubs on our website.
As part of Enfield Food Alliance’s Warm Hubs Network, you will receive a free Warm Hub pack and you will be kept informed of new developments and funding opportunities, as well as being involved in shaping Enfield Food Alliance’s ‘Food Poverty Summit’ planned for February 2023.
If you wish to become a member of Enfield Food Alliance, please complete our membership form or email enfield.foodalliance@gmail.com

Choosing a venue
Make sure your Warm Hub is accessible to everyone, including people with mobility issues.
Consider health and safety issues and complete a risk assessment. Check out the facilities, e.g. toilets, kitchen and warm space area to make sure it is suitable for your service users and activities. Consider how many people the venue can accommodate.

Consider bright lighting for those with visual impairments and blue LED lights and a quieter areas within the setting to be more autism friendly.
Set up a weekly monitoring process to capture accurately the number of people being supported and their demographic: Pensioners, Families with Children or Other.
Consider allowing people to bring in their own flask or food to heat-up.
Encouraged people to come in and spend time to warm-up with no pressure to do anything specific.
Taking care of staff and volunteers’ wellbeing is also vital because they themselves may be facing financial hardship.
Consider providing activities such as a repair club, healthy cooking classes, physical activities, board games, art therapy, knitting, and activities for children and young people. Also, consider offering device charging and access to free WiFi.
Signpost to wider local support services and make available Enfield’s Worrying about Money leaflet.
