EECM’s Happy Holidays We often have individuals, groups, families, and congregations who collect food or other supplies for our programs. These gifts help our programs run more smoothly, as our finances are severely stretched. On some of these occasions, however, our staff is pleasantly surprised - even overwhelmed by these gifts. This holiday season, we had a few of these surprising and inspiring occasions. Every Christmas, Pittsburgh Filmmakers screens It’s a Wonderful Life for 4 days at the Regent Square Theater. Admission is free, but they ask movie-goers to bring non-perishable items or donations for our Food Pantry. Gary Kaboly, Director of Exhibitions, said that they were ‘overrun’ with patrons and donations this year. Our Food Pantry staff loaded our cargo van with about 100 boxes of food and more than $800 in cash donations. One young friend, Micah, also gave gifts that will benefit many of our programs for a long time. For his Bar Mitzvah, Micah collected used board games. One afternoon, three members of our staff, Micah, and his parents unloaded two car loads of games - about 400 games! We’ll share the games with all of our programs. Some will go to our Children & Youth staff to use in our programs or for youth to take home. Others will be used at the Drop-In Center and given to individuals and families in our transitional housing programs and clients who use the Food Pantry. Our annual Christmas Gift Program was another great success this year. Our generous donors helped brighten the holidays for the adults, children, and families in our programs. 672 children and 66 adults received gifts from more than 20 organizations, groups, and individuals.
