notification, the student must schedule an appointment with his/her academic or faculty advisor. The purpose of these meetings is to determine the specific problem(s) related to the student’s poor or marginal academic performance and arrive at appropriate intervention strategies to remedy the problem(s).

Academic Probation Students must maintain a GPA of at least 2.0 each semester, and overall (cumulatively) in order to remain in good academic standing at the College. A student is placed on academic probation the next semester in which their GPA (cumulative or term) is below 2.0. If a student has a term or cumulative GPA below 2.0 in any subsequent semester or fails to recover from probation by earning a term and cumulative GPA above 2.0 while on probation, that student is subject to suspension (see Academic Suspension section for details). If a student earns a term GPA below 2.0 in any three semesters (consecutive or non-consecutive) or their cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 in any three semesters (consecutive or non-consecutive) they are subject to dismissal (see Academic Dismissal section for details). Depending on their class standing (freshmen, sophomore, etc.), a student placed on academic probation is expected to consult with his/her advisor in the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning or the faculty advisor in their major department. An academic success plan should be established in consultation with their advisor who will assist the student in returning to “good standing”. Only those students, who meet with their advisor and satisfy the requirements articulated in their individual academic success plan, will be eligible to appeal an academic suspension.

One-Semester Suspension (0.00-1.99) When a student’s term or cumulative GPA falls below the threshold for good standing (2.0) while on academic probation they are subject to suspension and/or dismissal from the College. When the GPA (term or cumulative) falls between 1.33 and 1.99 they will generally receive a one-semester suspension. A student receiving a one-semester suspension will be ineligible to attend EWC the subsequent semester, but he/she would be eligible for reinstatement after a semester away from the
