Meet requirements for placement in industry and graduate programs. Apply the fundamentals of news investigating, writing, and reporting for print and broadcast media employment situations. Apply the basic principles of radio, television, journalism, and public relations in the workplace. Write news for print media, radio, and television news services. Demonstrate ethical, legal, and moral responsibilities in formulating and disseminating information for mass media. Demonstrate radio and television production skills. Produce oral and written reports that meet the minimum requirements for effective communication. Operate selected production equipment for radio, television, and print media. Produce a variety of multimedia presentations and other production activities in print, broadcast, and public relations. Complete (successfully) an internship in print media, radio, television, and public relations. Employ techniques for photographing news stories and writing, reporting, and editing videotape news. Produce copy, headlines, and photos for newspapers and other publications. Produce a variety of designs for executing audio-based programs and video programs in studio environments. Demonstrate knowledge and practical skills in new information technologies. Utilize state-of-the-art technologies in mass media. Write and speak effectively and think and analyze critically. Compete locally and nationally for professional opportunities in mass media outlets. Apply effective verbal and nonverbal communication concepts in interactive communication situations and problems. Utilize techniques for composing, shooting, developing, and laying out 35 mm photographs for newspapers and magazines. Write effective press releases, public service announcements; develop publication designs, employee communications, and visual presentation. Utilize techniques in news gathering, preparation, writing, and delivery for broadcast media. Understand film as mass media; analyze and critique film as art form. Produce television programs that reflect an understanding of program planning and operation of cameras, lights, and audio components. Represent the College well, as successful graduates, in all areas of media and public relations. Use success and prestige to enhance program recruitment and program resources.
