This month, we spoke with Dr. Rani Ramaswamy, Medical Director of Aesthetics and Board-Certified OB/GYN at HerMD, about revolutionizing women's healthcare. Discover how this innovative practice is empowering women through comprehensive care, longer appointment times, and a unique blend of medical and aesthetic services that address both internal health and external concerns.
(promotional content)
Q: How does HerMD differ from traditional gynecological practices?
A: At HerMD, we offer a comprehensive approach that includes in-person and telehealth visits for sexual health, menopause, gynecology and medical aesthetics. Unlike most women's healthcare practices that focus on OB care, we specialize in GYN. Our longer appointment times allow clinicians to dig deep into a patient's history and needs, creating optimized treatment plans. We also provide in-house imaging services and lab work, making it a one-stop shop for women's healthcare needs. And we accept insurance for our gynecological services to make our care is accessible to a wide range of patients.
Q: What does HerMD mean by "healthcare powered by women"?
A: Historically, women have been underserved and underrepresented in medical decision-making. At HerMD, we prioritize patient care by giving them enough time with our clinicians to discuss their healthcare needs. We provide the tools for patients to make informed decisions through education and advocacy. It's about empowering women to take control of their health and partnering with them to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Q: How does HerMD create a welcoming environment for patients?
A: Our office space is designed to be warm, inviting and not at all sterile or intimidating as we often find in traditional medical settings. We offer coffee and snacks in the waiting area, and we
conduct vital signs and weigh-ins in private rooms to ensure patient comfort. Our team is dedicated to creating a shame-free, judgment-free zone where all patients can discuss all their healthcare needs openly.
Q: What age range does HerMD serve, and what services are offered?
A: We see patients of all ages, from adolescents to women in their postmenopausal years. Our services include routine gynecological care, sexual health consultations, menopause management, medical aesthetics and more. We provide education and support for all stages of a woman's life, filling the gap in care that often exists between reproductive years and menopause.
Q: How does HerMD integrate medical and aesthetic services to provide comprehensive care?
A: At HerMD, we offer evidencebased medical care alongside aesthetic services, which can be uniquely paired with a patient's treatment plan. This integrated approach allows us to treat the whole person, addressing internal and external health concerns in one convenient location.
Q: Why is HerMD's approach to women's healthcare so important?
A: Many women lack proper education about their bodies and the changes they experience throughout life. We believe in empowering women with knowledge and offering solutions beyond just "grin and bear it." There have been many advancements in women's health, from new medications for hot flashes to innovative treatments for various conditions. At HerMD, we make these resources accessible and educate our patients about their options, ensuring they receive comprehensive care tailored to their individual needs.
HerMD is located at 885 Monon Green Boulevard, Suite 118, in Carmel. Visit hermd.com to learn more and schedule an appointment, and follow @hermdhealth on Instagram to learn more.

Nestled among a community of creative businesses in the SoBro neighborhood of Indianapolis, a fresh concept is being hemmed into the fabric of home design. THREAD Design Group, founded by Amy Kreutz, is redefining the art of kitchen and cabinetry design with a blend of curiosity, creativity and a client-centered approach.
(promotional content)
As I stepped into THREAD Design Group's showroom on a sunny morning, I was immediately immersed in a world of design possibilities. The long, lean space is still new, and still a work in progress, but already it hums with creative energy. Along the walls, an array of material samples and hardware selections invite visitors to touch, feel and envision their own dream spaces.
Amy Kreutz, a Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD) with years of experience, has launched a venture that goes beyond traditional cabinetry. "We've always been building towards this holistic design approach," Amy explains, describing her journey from focusing solely on cabinets to creating comprehensive design experiences. This evolution is at the core of THREAD Design Group's philosophy—a curiosity-driven approach that seeks to understand and fulfill each client's unique needs.
The name THREAD is no coincidence, and it’s one rich with meaning. "Everyone is affected by design,” Amy tells me. “We are all threaded together through design. Design surrounds us all." Through exquisite cabinetry and connected interiors, Amy and her team strive to be a valuable thread in that tapestry, weaving together various elements of design to create a cohesive whole that highlights the interconnectedness of people through the spaces they inhabit.
Whether working on renovations or new home builds, THREAD Design Group's services extend far beyond specialty cabinet design and selection, considering every aspect of a space. Amy and her team approach each project with a holistic
vision, understanding that the thoughtful integration of multiple facets is what true design excellence is all about. From the cabinetry and hardware to the lighting and countertops, every component is carefully chosen and harmoniously combined. Exquisite cabinetry and connected interiors defines how THREAD Design Group has grown into offering the services of a fullscale interior design firm upon request. This layered approach results in spaces that are not just visually striking but deeply satisfying to live in.
Amy's team, including operations expert Marissa Doner, with an extensive background in construction and more than a decade of work in the industry, and design associate Lydia Landez, brings a diverse set of skills to each project. Their innovative thinking and collaborative approach ensures that every aspect of a design is considered, from aesthetics to functionality to investment level. "When you work with THREAD, you get the whole team and all of our resources," shares Marissa, adding that they all believe in the importance of having multiple perspectives on each project.
One of THREAD Design Group's strengths is their refusal to be identified by a single style. Instead, they pride themselves on their ability to adapt to each client's needs and preferences, whether it's ultra-modern, rustic farmhouse or anything in between. This flexibility is balanced with a deep respect for architectural integrity. Amy is dedicated to maintaining harmony between the design and the home's architecture, emphasizing their commitment to designs that enhance rather than clash with a home's existing character.
Led by Amy Kreutz, CKD, THREAD Design Group weaves experience, creativity and genuine care into every project. With curiosity at the heart of their work, they create unique spaces that reflect the individuality of their clients, establishing themselves as a rising force in Indianapolis design.
Join THREAD Design Group and their fellow businesses at the 54th and Monon Shops for a festive holiday pop-up on November 8th. Stop by to explore their curated selection of home goods and discover their design expertise and services.
When you work with THREAD Design Group, you get a team of dedicated professionals who bring diverse skills and expertise to every project. Amy Kreutz, CKD, the founder and Lead Designer, blends sophistication with functionality to create personalized spaces. Marissa Doner, the Director of Operations, ensures projects run smoothly and efficiently. Lydia Landez, the Design Coordinator, brings fresh perspectives and artistic flair to each design. Together, this team combines creativity, technical knowledge, and a passion for bringing clients' visions to life. Their shared commitment to curiositydriven design ensures well-appointed spaces and a seamless experience, from concept to implementation. What sets THREAD Design Group apart is not just their individual talents but also their collective industry connections, giving clients access to unique materials and solutions not found elsewhere.
The new showroom in the 54th and Monon Shops is set to open fully by the start of the new year. This space will serve not just as a display area but as a hub for community engagement. Amy envisions hosting cooking demos, various workshops and other community events that bring people together and showcase their designs in action.
“All of our tenants are lovely, fun, and passionate about being the best of the best in their field,” says Suzy Reese, who has owned the 54th and Monon Shops property with her husband David for 35 years, starting with just one shop—their own Reese Kitchens. She shares that
after selling their kitchen remodeling company in 2012, they always hoped a kitchen design studio would be a part of the current collection of 29 businesses. “When we saw some of Amy's kitchens and bathrooms, and their extraordinary design and beauty, plus her exquisite hand drawings of the cabinetry, we knew she was truly special,” says Suzy. “It is a treat to visit her wonderful studio and enjoy their enthusiasm.”
In addition to their flagship showroom, THREAD Design Group is also collaborating with Jason Barth and The Premier Group in Carmel, designing a state of the art kitchen for their new Experience Center, demonstrating how their work integrates with other home technologies. The Premier Group is now located at 12345 Old Meridian St, Carmel, IN, and their beautifully tailored showroom will be open soon.
In a world where cookie-cutter designs are all too common, THREAD Design Group stands out by blending experience, creativity and genuine care for their clients. With each project, they're weaving together dreams and lifestyles with innovative design solutions. As they continue to make their mark on home design, they invite homeowners, designers, architects and builders to join them in exploring the endless possibilities that lie at the intersection of curiosity and creativity.

Serve the best this holiday season with a turkey from Joe's. Farm fresh, ethically sourced, non-GMO, hormone & antibiotic free: qualities your family deserves.
With over 20 years in business, Joe's knows a thing or two about a good holiday turkey. Trust Joe's Butcher Shop to provide the best turkey for your holiday celebrations this year.
By SuSaN Salaz
Thanksgiving is approaching, and the centerpiece of most holiday tables is the turkey. Joe Lazzara, owner of Joe's Butcher Shop in Carmel, shares his expert tips for selecting, preparing, and roasting a turkey that will have your guests raving.
I can't stress this enough— start with a quality bird. At my shop, we offer FarmFresh Turkeys, a special crossbreed of heritage black and domestic white turkeys. They're sustainably raised, which means better flavor and texture on your plate.
When I say fresh, I mean it. Our turkeys are processed just days before Thanksgiving. Don't settle for the USDA's definition of "fresh," which can mean frozen for up to six months!
Give your turkey a good rinse, inside and out, with cold water, then pat it dry. I like to season it generously with kosher salt or one of our special rubs.
I know it's tradition for some, but trust me on this one— stuffing the bird can lead to uneven cooking. I prefer to cook it separately—it's safer and tastier.
Set your oven to 325°F. Want a flavor boost? Try putting some sliced apples, cinnamon, rosemary, and sage in the cavity.
I use butter-soaked cheesecloth on the breast instead. It lets the skin brown beautifully while keeping the meat moist.
Roast your turkey breast-side down on a rack in a roasting pan. For extra moisture, add a cup of water or stock to the pan's bottom.
Don't rely on cooking times. Use a meat thermometer and aim for 155-160°F in the thickest part of the thigh. It'll keep cooking as it rests.
Let your turkey rest for 15-20 minutes before carving. Start with the dark meat, then move to the breast.
I always tell my customers to take notes each year. It's how I've perfected my technique, and you can too.
Order your Joe's Farm-Fresh Turkey and get my full Turkey Roasting Guide now at joesbutchershop.com.
"Here's to a delicious Thanksgiving! If you have any questions, just stop by the shop. I'm always happy to talk turkey!"

When a local furniture store brings the finest in modern furniture to the Indianapolis area for almost 40 years, it’s safe to say that the store is a veritable establishment in the community. Founded in 1985, Houseworks (4905 E. 82nd Street, Indianapolis; houseworks.biz) meets that requirement. But anyone who already knows the team behind the Housework experience, navigated by founder and owner Ed Cheikh, understands that the secret to longevity isn’t just about the product. Houseworks’ collection may be second to none, but it’s the dedicated and straightforward service that the team brings to clientele each and every day, year in and year out, that has solidified its standing in the Indianapolis area.
(promotional content)
I asked Ed what was on his mind as he pondered the success of Houseworks through the years. “In a way, I must have been crazy even to get the venture going,” he quips, adding that an element of serendipity entered the equation. “I never anticipated at the start that I would own a furniture store for 39 years, but here we are.” Ed explains that when Houseworks first opened, Indianapolis homeowners were mostly unfamiliar with the aesthetic of modern furniture design. Fast forward a few years, and America developed an obsession with the sleek, efficient look of modern styles, thanks in great part to IKEA’s debut on the American market. “IKEA has been and continues to be good for us,” Ed tells me, in all seriousness. “The company exposes modern furniture to more people, and they’re creating an appreciation for timeless and simple modern design.” What Houseworks brings its customers that IKEA simply can’t is the finest quality in its product—quality that endures and style that remains perennially fresh. And while the ubiquitous nature of online shopping has increased the availability of modern furniture and accessories to more people, Ed maintains that with furniture, especially, people want to
While online shopping has increased the availability of modern furniture and accessories, Ed maintains that with furniture, especially, people want to touch it, to check the quality, to make sure they’re getting what they pay for.
touch it, to check the quality, to make sure they’re getting what they pay for.
Quality is a given for the Houseworks brand. On top of this, though, Ed emphasizes that he has worked to maintain the highest standards of customer service. “We have great people here, who are educated in the product—they know their stuff,” he says. Houseworks’ deeply knowledgeable sales team is something not typically seen in the big-box stores, and this integral knowledge base has taken time to build. “Brian and Dustin have both worked sales more than 20 years with us,” he says, “and our office manager, Angel, has been here for 19 years. Forrestine, in customer service, has been at Houseworks for 26 years; our warehouse manager, Chris, for 31; and our delivery and technical support, Dillon, for 16.” At the end of the day, Ed believes that it’s the tightknit, family-type environment that Houseworks has cultivated in its team that keeps customers coming back and continues to draw new clientele. “I offer my team realistic, human standards for their work,” Ed tells
me. “That means we work 10:00 to 6:00 and get two days off a week. The retail team gets one weekend off a month.”
And what does the team think about this? “I’ve worked here 22 years,” says Sales Manager Dustin Polster. “It’s a great place to work, and I love the variety—different customers and different houses to design every day. It’s like I get to live vicariously through people!” For Dustin, who didn’t come from an interior design background, the years on the job have been an invaluable education. “You can’t really teach that,” he says. Operations Manager Brian McIntosh just celebrated his 28th year with Houseworks. “I love our product, and I really love working somewhere I feel we treat the customers with integrity,” he says. “Ed always has the customer in mind. We take care of any issues that come up so that the customer has the best experience possible.” In terms of the furniture, Brian finds the Houseworks product to be unique in the central Indiana region. “What we offer is modern, high quality, and very exciting.” He points to motion seating, reclining sofas and stand-alone recliners as some of this year’s most popular items.
Ed tells me about an industry study that investigated why customers make purchases from a particular store. “Over 80% said it was the salesperson,” he says. “I believe that a salesperson who is honest and knowledgeable, who tells it like it is, and who is always straightforward with customers— that’s going to always make the difference.” With the highest quality in modern furniture and accessories, a highly educated and dedicated team, and a customer-centered approach, Houseworks is well poised to see its 40th anniversary—and many more.
